If you are planning on travelling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and double-check departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane would leave at 10:50. Surprisingly, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. “Listen! I only take real money!” the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travelled in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
24.When did the author arrive at the airport probably
A.At 9:55. B.At 10:00. C.At 10:05. D.At 10:50.
25.When the author found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver, he ________.
A.asked the driver to give him a free ride B.offered to pay in pounds
C.gave the driver some fake (假的) money D.tried to pay by credit card
26.Generally, in May the weather in London is ________.
A.warm and dry B.cold and dry
C.hot and wet D.cool and rainy
27.What is the text mainly about
A.How to make life easier. B.How to be well prepared for a trip.
C.How to enjoy ourselves on a trip. D.How to schedule our trip.

Zhang Heng was a Chinese mathematician, astronomer and geographer living AD 100-200 in the Eastern Han Dynasty. He wrote a great deal of literary works, which gained him considerable fame as a young man. He served several positions in the government, but he later refused to serve in the government and spent the rest of life far away from the capital city, where he spent almost all of his time on scientific studies.
There were many false scientific theories about the universe and Earth at that time. His theory was looked down upon because it was quite different from what people usually held. People from Britain and Ireland first came to live in Australia in 1788. They brought different dialects (方言) of English with them. These different kinds of English began to mix and change. The newcomers soon began to speak with their own typical accent (口音) and vocabulary. More and more people came to Australia during the Gold Rush in the 19th and 20th centuries. Some came from Britain and Ireland; others came from non-English speaking countries. Australian English continued to grow and change.
Australian English has also been influenced by American English. During the Second World War, there were many American soldiers staying in Australia. American television shows and music have been popular in Australia since the 1950s.
Australians use many words that other English speakers do not use. The famous Australian greeting, for example, is G’day! A native forest is called the bush and central Australia is called the outback. Many words were brought to Australia from Britain and Ireland. For example, mate means “friend”, and it is still used in Britain. Some of these words have changed in meaning. Some words have come from Australian original languages, many of which are names for animals, plants and places, like dingo and kangaroo.
Australian spelling comes from British spelling. In words like organise and realise, -ise is the expected and taught spelling method. In words like colour, favourite, -our is the normal, but nouns such as the Labor Party and Victor Harbor are spelled with -or. Program, on the other hand, is more common than programme.
There are also differences in the meaning of words Australians use in different parts of the country. For example, football means “rugby” in New South Wales and Queensland, but “Australian rules football” in everywhere else in Australia. In New South Wales, a swimming costume is called a cossie or swimmers, while in Queensland it is called togs and bathers in Victoria.

D.The same word might have different meanings in different parts of Australia.
