设计的基本理念:根据新课标,培养学生自主、合作、探究的精神、突出语言运用能力培养的理念而设计。

教材分析
(一)教材的地位和作用
1.单元背景分析:本单元主要谈论自然灾害,自然灾害分为七大类:气象灾害、海洋灾害、洪水灾害、地质灾害、地震灾害、农作物生物灾害和森林生物灾害和森林火灾。我国是世界上自然灾害种类最多的国家,目前人力尚不能阻止自然灾害的发生,但我们可以采取有效措施,最大限度的减轻灾难的发生。
2.教材内容分析:本单元围绕Natural disasters 这个话题展开,让学生了解各种自然灾害如何自救,并注意从学生自己生活的实际环境出发,拓展了一些自然现象和自然灾害。“Grammar”部分介绍了过去进行时的构成和用法,学会“while”“when”“as”在过去进行时中的具体运用。
3.教材重点、难点
教材重点:
(1)重点短语: on the side of the road break down
(2)重点句型:I was (not) sleeping at 10 p.m. last night.
I was sleeping when the earthquake started.
People were running in all directions while pieces of glass and bricks were falling down.
As I was trying to find my way out ,I suddenly heard some noise above me.
When /While/As Millie was watching TV, Andy came into the room.
(3)重点语法:1.学会使用过去进行时。
2.学会使用when, while和as

STEP 1 Warming up Say, ‘Now, I am teaching you. You are listening to me carefully.’ (ask A)What are you doing (ask B)What did A do just now (ask B)What were you doing when A answered my question (ask C)What were you doing when I came in (ask A)What was C doing at that time (ask D)What were you doing while I was talking with A,B,C 设计意图:通过上述问题的问答,让学生初步体会过去进行时。
Step2Design a scene As the students are talking about the things they do, write the structure of past continuous tense ‘was/were +doing’ on the board. 设计意图:根据之前的问答,学生已经对过去进行时有了一定的了解,教师的适时总结,让学生对过去进行时有了准确的概念。 STEP 3 Paying attention to uses of words During the students describing the pictures, pay attention to use ‘was’ and ‘were’ to consolidate the past continuous tense. STEP 4 Describing the picture Describe the picture in general questions and give them positive and negative answers. Practice in pairs. Write the two kinds of answers on the Bb. Was David cooking at eight yesterday Yes, he was. Was David having dinner at 8 last night No, he wasn’t. 设计意图:呈现David前一天所做的事情,学生进行简单的回答,让学生了解过去进行时的肯、否定回答。 STEP 5 Practicing the dialogue After finishing describing the nine pictures, practice the dialogue like this. T: What was David doing last night at eight last night Ss: He was doing some cooking. 设计意图:教师给出范例,让学生清晰的了解自己所要操练的内容。
Practice in pairs. Let them choose any picture they want. 设计意图:通过操练,锻炼学生的口语表达能力,并11能让学生熟练掌握过去进行时。 STEP 6 Completing Part A Get the students to complete Part A, Page 97. Check the answers in pairs and in class. Explain the main phrases in the dialogue e.g. ‘on the side of the road’ and ‘break down’. Get them to read the dialogue aloud. 设计意图:本段对话,对现在进行时基本结构,肯定和 否定句型做了全面的考察。 Ask the students some question to offer them more chance for practice. Step7 Using when, while, and as 1.T ask: What was Mr Wu doing when the snowstorm came (要求学生作出完整回答) He was reading the newspaper when the snowstorm came. When the snowstorm came, he was reading the newspaper. 设计意图:教师把两个句子都写在黑板上,并给when加上了下划线,引起学生的注意。 2.Work in pairs ,ask and answer. 3.T present the following sentences. (1)Simon was having breakfast when the snowstorm came. When the snowstorm came, Simon was having breakfast. (2)Millie was walking to the bus stop when the snowstorm came. When the snowstorm came, Millie was walking to the bus stop. (3)Sandy was waiting for a taxi` when Millie saw her . When Millie saw her, Sandy was waiting for a taxi. 设计意图:通过上面的句型,让学生理解when的用法。在此教师介绍when, while, as 的区别,并让学生试着用 while / as 改写句型。 4.T present a pictures with two men and ask students what they are doing. Using while, when, as to make new sentences. Step 8 Practice Ask students to look at the pictures on P98 and find out what other students were doing when Simon arrived. 设计意图:进一步操练过去进行时的用法。 Finish the dialogue in Part B, and then check the answers. 设计意图:本题主要检测学生对 when ,while, as的掌握。 Step9 Production 把学生分为两人一组,让两个人同时表演不同的动作。准备片刻,然后挑选几组到讲台前表演,动作结束后让表演者分别提问:What was I doing 让其他学生用一般疑问句猜测:Were you playing basketball 两个表演者的动作都被猜对后,要求其他学生用while或when 造句。其过程示例如下: (A1:Actor1 A2:Actor2 S1:Student1 S2:Student2 …) A1 and A2 doing different actions. A1:What was I doing S1:Were you playing basketball A1:No,I wasn’t. S2:Were you playing football A1:Yes,I was. ………… 设计意图:让全班同学都参与对话,熟练掌握过去进行时。 STEP9 Homework Do more exercises about past continues tense 板书设计 Unit 8 Natural disasters I was(not) sleeping at10p.m. last night. Were you sleeping at 10p.m. last night Yes, I was. No, I wasn’t. When/While/As Millie was watching TV, Andy came into the room.
