Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet students and ask about their interests.
T: What do you often do after school
S1:I often play soccer.
T: Do you want to join our school soccer club
S1: Yes, I do. I want to join the club.
Ask more students like this.
2. Show pictures of different clubs, such as swimming club, basketball club, dancing club, English club and so on. Ask students to guess the names.
T: What are the students doing in the picture What club is it
Step 2 Work on 1a
1. Show la and ask students to match the pictures with the clubs . Discuss the answers. The answers are:A art club,C science club,F drama club,D music club, Bchess club,E ping-pong club
2. Ask and answer questions about the clubs, using the following structures:

Step 3 Work on 1b
1. Play the recording for 1b and ask students to listen and answer which club each student wants to join.
2. Check the answers.

1. Repeat the recording for 1c and ask students to complete the sentences with can or can't.
2. Check answers.

Step 5 Work on 1d
1. Divide students into pairs and assign roles of club leader and student.
2. Model a conversation between club leader and student using the information from 1c. The following is an example.
A: Hello! I want to join the chess club.
B: Great! Can you play chess
A: Yes, I can. I can play it well./ No, I can't. I can't play it well.
3. Let students practise their role-plays in pairs. Encourage them to use their own ideas and creativity.
4. Ask several students to act out their conversations in class.
Step 6 Work on Pronunciation l
1. Explain the concept of lost explosion and demonstrate the sounds/p/,/b/,/t/,/d/,/k/,/g/,/f/,/v/.
2. Play the recording for Pronunciation 1 and ask students to listen and repeat.
3. Ask several students to repeat the sounds and the words.
Step 7 Work on Pronunciation 2
1. Point out the silent letters in brackets and ask students to practise the sounds with lost ex- plosion.
2. Listen and repeat the phrases and sentences in Pronunciation 2. Notice how the letters in brackets are pronounced.
3. Ask several students to read the phrases and sentences in Pronunciation 2.
Step 8 Summary and Homework
Summarize the main points of the lesson.
Assign homework: Ask students to prepare a short dialogue about joining a school club using the language learned in class.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet students and ask about their daily activities, using the following sentences.
T: What activities do you do after school What can you do Can you play basketball What club do you want to join
2. Lead into the topic of school clubs and ask students to share their knowledge or experi- ences.
Step 2 Work on 2a
1. Look at the picture on 2a and talk about the picture. Predict what students will study.
2. Present 2a and explain the task: Listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks.
3. Play the recording for the first time and ask students to listen carefully.
4. Play the recording again and ask students to fill in the blanks.
5. Check answers and discuss any difficult points. The answers are:
(1)I have no idea;(2) What about you;(3)I'd love to;(4) That's great.
Explain the following items carefully:
(1) Here's some good news!
(2)I can't play any musical instruments.
(3) But you can sing well.
(4) Exactly!

6. Practise reading the conversations. Then ask some students to act it out.
Step 3 Work on 2b
1. Show 2b and ask students to read the conversation silently.
2. Explain the task: Complete the table with information from the conversation. Guide students to find the relevant information and fill in the table. Discuss the completed table and correct the errors.

Step 4 Work on 2c
1. Explain the concept of vowel reduction and its importance in fluent English speaking. Play the recording for 2c and ask students to listen and pay attention to the letters that are silent.
2. Model the conversation with vowel reduction and ask students to repeat after you.
3. Pair students up and let them role-play the conversation, encouraging them to use vowel reduction.
4. Ask several pairs to act out in class.
Step 5 Work on 2d
1. Hand out worksheet for 2d and explain the task: Circle can or can't with your own informa- tion. Then tick the club(s) you want to join. Let students complete the worksheet individually.
2. Ask a few students to share their choices and reasons. Guide students to add more if they want to.
Step 6 Work on 2e
1. Explain the task for 2e: Discuss what clubs you want to join with your group members. Di- vide students into groups and let them discuss. Encourage students to use the language learned in class and express their opinions.
2. Invite a few groups to share their discussions with the whole class.
Step 7 Summary and Homework
Summarize the main points of the lesson.
Assign homework: Ask students to write a short paragraph about the club they want to join and the reasons.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet students and ask about their interests and hobbies.
2. Present the topic of school clubs and ask students if they have ever joined any clubs or or- ganizations. Guide students to discuss what clubs they would like to join and why.
Step 2 Work on 3a
1. Write some examples of sentences with can on the board and explain its basic meaning and usage.
Examples:I can play soccer. Can you play soccer What can you do
2. Ask students to identify the verbs in bold in 3a and observe if they change form when used with can. Explain that can is used to express ability and it does not change the form of the verb that follows it.
3. Read the sentences in 3a.
Step 3 Work on 3b
1. Have students work in pairs and complete 3b by matching the two parts to make sen- tences. Encourage students to create their own sentences using can and share with their partners. Monitor and provide feedback on students' use of can.
2. Check the answers.

Step 4 Work on 3c
1. Guide students to complete 3c by choosing the correct words from the box to fill in the blanks.
2. Ask a few students to read their completed passages aloud and discuss the meanings.
Step 5 Work on 3d
1. Organize students into small groups and assign each group a different club to focus on.
2. Have students conduct interviews within their groups, asking each other if they can do certain activities related to the assigned club (e. g.: for a sports club, ask if they can play bas- ketball).
3. After the interviews, students should tick what he or she can do and prepare a short report on the abilities of their group members.
4. Each group presents their report to the class, using can to describe the abilities of their group members.
Step 6 Summary and Homework
Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the importance of can in expressing ability.
Assign homework: Ask students to write a short paragraph about a club they would like to join and use can to describe the activities they are able to do.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet students and engage them in a brief discussion about their hobbies and interests.
2. Ask students if they know what a school club is and share some examples of clubs they may have heard of.
Step 2 Work on 1a
1. Have students read the comments from Alice, Lin Hui, and Jack in 1a.
2. Ask students to discuss in pairs which clubs they think Alice, Lin Hui, and Jack should join based on their comments.
3. Invite several pairs to share their ideas with the class and justify their choices.
Step 3 Work on 1b
1. Guide students to read the club ads in 1b. Ask students to match each student in la with a suitable club from 1b and justify their choices. Encourage students to use the information in the comments and the club ads to make their decisions.
2. Explain new words and language points by teaching and giving some examples.
Step 4 Work on 1c
1. Direct students to read the club ads again and extract key information to complete the ta- ble in 1c. Monitor students as they fill in the table and provide assistance where needed.
2. Have a few students share their completed tables with the class.
Step 5 Work on 1d
1. Pose the questions in 1d to students and encourage them to discuss in groups.
Example questions could include:“Why do you think it's important to join a school club ” and“What skills or experiences do you hope to gain from joining a club ”
2. Invite groups to share their discussions and opinions with the class.
Step 6 Work on 2a & 2b
Guide students to read the email template in 2a and explain the purpose of the email.
Have students complete the email with the words in the box, focusing on using appropriate lan- guage to express their desire to join a club.
2. Ask students to choose one club from 1b and write their own emails to the club organizer, stating why they want to join the club and what they hope to learn or achieve.
3. Provide students with a rubric or checklist to help them self-evaluate their emails before submitting them.
4. Ask several students to display their emails.
Step 7 Summary and Homework
Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the importance of joining a school club and the skills they can learn from it.
Assign homework: Ask students to revise their emails and submit them for feedback. Encour- age them to consider joining a school club in real life based on what they have learned in class.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet students and ask about their interests and hobbies.
2. Present the topic“Start your own club”.
Step 2 Work on 3a
Begin by asking students to brainstorm ideas about what clubs they enjoy or find interesting. Discuss the benefits of being in a club and how it can enhance learning experiences. Have students individually think of a club they would like to start in their school and jot down a few i- deas.
Step 3 Work on 3b
Explain the purpose and importance of a poster in attracting new club members. Show exam- ples of club posters and discuss the elements that make them effective (e. g.: clear heading, in- teresting images, concise information).
Ask students to design a poster for their chosen club, including the name, activities, meet- ing time and place, and contact information. Encourage students to use creativity and colour to make their posters stand out.
Step 4 Work on 3c
Provide students with an opportunity to present their posters to the class. Each student should briefly explain their club ideas and what they hope to achieve through it.
Provide students with time to conduct interviews with their classmates. Encourage students to be polite, respectful, and clear in communicating their club ideas and why they think it would be beneficial for others to join.
Collect names of potential new members and discuss how to proceed with recruitment.
Step 5 Summary and Homework
Summarize the project and congratulate students on their efforts.
Assign homework: Ask students to finalize their posters and prepare a brief presentation to introduce their clubs to a wider audience (e. g.: other classes or the school community).
