一、单元内容分析

【教学过程】
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet the class in English.
2. Ask the students : How old are you When is your birthday
3. Tell the class what we will study this class.
Step 2 Work on 1a
1. Ask students to say the twelve months.
2. Play the recording. Students listen and repeat. Then circle the months and days of their own birthdays.
3. Work in pairs. Students check in pairs.
Step 3 Work on 1b
1. Explain how to tell dates. Tell them the difference between British way and American way by giving some examples, such as 8th March and March 8th.
2. Listen to the conversations and match the people with their birthdays.
3. Check the answers.

Step 4 Work on 1c
1. Tell students what they need to do in this part. Play the recording again. Ask students to listen and answer the questions.
2. Ask several students to share their answers. Then check their answers.
3. Read the recording script.
Step 5 Work on ld
1. Students work in small groups. Ask them to ask each other's age and birthday, using the structure: How old are you When is your birthday
2. Ask students to line up from the youngest to the oldest.
3. Ask several students to give a report in class.
Step 6 Work on Pronunciation 1
1. Teach students how to pronounce/h/,/r/,/l/,/m/,/n/,/ /,/w/,/j/. Ask them to imitate them. Ask several students to read them.
2. Play the recording. Students listen and repeat.
3. Ask several students to read the pronunciation in Pronunciation 1. Correct their mistakes.
Step 7 Work on Pronunciation 2
1. Introduce the intonation.
2. Play the recording and ask students to listen and repeat the conversation.
3. Play the recording again. Let students repeat them.
4. Ask several students to act out the conversation. They should pay attention to the intona- tion in each sentence.
Step 8 Homework
1. Practise reading the conversations in 1b.
2. Practise the pronunciation/h/,/r/,/l/,/m/,/n/,/ /,/w/,/j/ and sample words.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Greet the class and review the previous class.
2. Tell the students Ella and Emma’ s birthday is coming. Their friends will prepare for their birthdays.
Step 2 Work on 2a
1. Look at the picture in 2a. Guess what they may talk.
2. Play the recording for the first time. Listen carefully and fill in the blanks.
3. Play the recording again to check the answers.
The answers are:1. Good idea! 2. Yes, please. 3. Sure. 4. Here you are.
4. Explain the answers and other items.(a surprise party; buy something for the party; How much is this birthday cake ; have a sale; five yuan a bottle; What's the total ; Have a nice day!)
Step 3 Work on 2b
1. Read the conversation in 2a together. Ask students to complete the table.
2. Discuss the answers briefly.
Step 4 Work on 2c
1. Play the conversation recording again, emphasizing intonation and pronunciation. Ask students to pay attention to how the speakers sound when they ask questions, give suggestions, or express excitement. Students listen and repeat.
2. Role-play the conversation. Ask several students to act out the conversation in class.
Step 5 Work on 2d
1. Ask students what else they would like to buy for a birthday party. Put the things in the box into different groups on the shopping list. Add more if they can.
2. Choose several shopping lists and display them on the screen.
Step 6 Work on 2e
1. Model a sample dialogue using the shopping list and the target language structure:“Can I help you Yes, please. How much is/ are... ”
2. Pair students up and have them practise the dialogues, swapping roles.
3. Invite several pairs to perform their dialogues in front of the class.
4. Provide feedback and encouragement on pronunciation, fluency, and accuracy.

1. Greet the class.
2. Review the previous class by role-play the conversations in 2a.
3. Introduce what we will study this class.
Step 2 Work on 3a
1. Ask students to read the sentences after the teacher. Then read them themselves and translate the sentences into Chinese.
2. Circle the question words.
3. Help them summarize the question words: what, what time, when, where, why, who, how, how much, how many, how old. Explain how to use them.

Step 3 Work on 3b
1. Ask students to look at the question words in the box.

1. Tell students there are many special birthdays in the world.
2. Ask students to read the passage and underline the dates of the special birthdays.
3. Check the answers: William Shakespeare's birthday, Florence Nightingale’ s birthday.
4. Introduce the cultural knowledge about William Shakespeare and Florence Nightingale.
5. Encourage students to think of other special birthdays they know, such as Sun Zhongshan's birthday or Tree Planting Day.
6. Read the passage again and learn them by heart.
Step 5 Work on 3d
1. Ask students: When is our National Day What do we do on National Day Help them an- swer October 1st and activities we do.
2. Do the same with CPC Founding Day, PLA Day, School Founding Day.
3. Ask students to add more days in 3d.
4. Students work in small groups and check who knows the most of these special days.
Step 6 Summary and Homework
Summarize the key points of the lesson.
Homework: Write a short passage about your favourite special day and share it with your group members.

1. Show the list of birthday activities ( such as eat birthday noodles, etc.).
2. Ask students to tick the activities they do on their birthday.
3. Discuss the ticked activities and ask students to share why they find them meaningful.
Step 3 Work on 1b
1. Present the online forum post and ask students to read silently.
2. Guide students to choose the main idea of the post(A, B, or C).
