Her days were filled with the familiar rhythm of her job at the local bookstore, but her heart yearned for something more. Sarah dreamed of running a marathon, a challenge that seemed as daunting as the open road that stretched beyond her small town.Sarah’s journey began with a single step. She started by running around the block, her legs heavy and her breath short. Each day, she pushed herself a little further, her determination growing with every mile. She trained through the hot summers and the cold winters, her dream of crossing the marathon finish line fueling her every step. Her friends and family watched her transformation with a mix of awe and concern. They had never seen Sarah so focused, so driven. Some doubted her ability to complete such a grueling race, but Sarah paid no attention to their skepticism. She believed in her dream and was willing to put in the work to make it a reality. As the marathon date approached, Sarah’s training intensified. She ran longer distances, climbed steep hills, and practiced her pacing strategy. Her body ached, and there were days when every step was a struggle, but she never wavered in her commitment. The day of the marathon finally arrived. Sarah stood at the starting line, her heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nerves. Around her, thousands of runners prepared for the challenge ahead, their faces reflecting the same determination she felt. The gun fired, and the race began. Sarah’s feet hit the pavement, her body moving in a rhythm she had practiced countless times. The miles passed, and with each one, she felt herself getting closer to her dream. The last few miles were the hardest. Her legs burned, and her lungs ached for air, but Sarah refused to give up. She dug deep, finding strength in her dream and the months of training that had brought her to this point. As she crossed the finish line, exhaustion and elation washed over her in equal measure. She had done it. She had run a marathon, a feat that had once seemed impossible.Sarah’s journey was not just about completing a race; it was about proving to herself that she was capable of achieving her dreams. However, these coastal areas are at high risk from human activities. It takes baby European bass a long time to grow into adults and they tend to stay in the estuary they live in until they are fully grown. So if their habitat gets damaged, they don’t just move to another estuary. How and when baby European bass use different coastal areas We hope our results can help dentify areas that will protect these fish, which contribute to the whole population increase. We caught 146 European bass in three protected nursery sites in the Southwest UK. We placed an acoustic(听觉的)tag inside each fish and then released it. We placed 78 receiver instruments throughout the nursery sites. Whenever a fish got close to a receiver, it recorded the time, date, and fish ID. We tracked fish movement like this for a year.We used our data to determine how much time fish spent at the protected nursery site they were originally caught in, or when they moved into other unprotected coastal areas. We also calculated if these movements were related to fish size.Seasonal differences between the various nursery sites were clear. We found all fish had wider movements at some point. Some visited neighboring estuaries. The most adventurous individuals traveled to Wales, over 300 km (200 mi)away.45% of wider movements were in the winter. Many of these fish were from the Dart Estuary. Most of them returned to their original nursery by the end of our study. 55% of fish stayed in their original nursery during the winter. We also found that residence time varied between nursery sites, but it was not related to fish size. Our study showed that European bass generally like to stay close to coastal nursery sites. Even most fish that had long coastal movements tended to return to their original nursery. These patterns were not related to fish size. This means coastal nursery habitats are important for them at lots of different ages. It also means they are important year-round. If we want to help fish populations, we need to protect these nursery habitats.28. Why did the author do the research A. To find out the route of the fish movement.B. To work out more ways to protect the fish.C. To figure out the importance of protecting the coastal area.D. To check out the differences between different nursery sites.29. What is the function of receiver instruments A. Protecting the fish. B. Tracking the presence of the fish.C. Showing the moving track of the fish. D. Measuring the protected nursery area.30. What can we conclude from the result A. The bigger the fish is, the longer the residence time.B. The residence time has no difference in different nursery sites.C. Coastal nursery habitats are only important for the fish at a young age.D. Even most fish having voyages farther tended to return to their original nursery.31. What will be talked about after the last paragraph A. Other studies about the coastal nursery habitats.B. The reasons to protect the coastal nursery habitats.C. The measures to protect the coastal nursery habitats.D. Other factors influencing the coastal nursery habitats.DAt school our children are taught to add up and subtract but, extraordinarily, are not shown how to open a bank account — let alone how to manage their finances in an increasingly complex and demanding world. On Jun. 21st, the parenting website Mumsnet and the consumer campaigner Martin Lewis joined forces to launch an online petition(请愿)to make financial education a compulsory element of the school curriculum in England. They said that children from 5 to 16 should be taught about everything from pocket money to pensions.Consumer and parent groups believe financial education has always been one of the most confusing omissions of the curriculum. As the Personal Finance Education Group (PFEG)points out, the good habits of young children do not last long. PFEG predicts that these young people will “find it much harder to avoid the serious traps that many of their parents have fallen unless they receive good quality financial education while at school.”The UK has been in the grasp of the worst financial recession for generations. It does seem odd that — unless parents step in — young people are left in the dark until they are cruelly introduced to the world of debt when they turn up at university. Chris Tapp, from money education charity Credit Action, puts it succinctly(言简意赅地): “It’s like we’ve been sending out people to drive without first giving them instruction and then being shocked when they crash. It’s a no-brainer. Everybody needs to manage money and use financial products wisely and I wholeheartedly support this call to ensure that giving every child the opportunity to learn about finance.”In a recent poll of over 8 000 people, 97% supported financial education in schools, while3% said it was a job for parents. I am in favor of the majority. And what do you think — is it up to Parents to encourage good habits or should financial education be entrusted to schools 32. What conclusion can we draw from the first paragraph A. Children at school focus their attention upon studies.B. Children at school don’t get the financial education.C. Children who do well in their mathematics can open an account.D. Children at school can’t adjust to the complex and demanding world.33. What can we infer according to Martin Lewis A. It is essential to teach students money management.B. Financial education should be carried out in every country.C. Children should save their pocket money to pay for their tuition fees.D. It is effective for consumer campaigners to launch an online petition.34. What is Chris Tapp’s purpose of referring to car crash A. To stress the importance of financial education.B. To tell us how terrible the traffic condition in the UK is.C. To tell us the importance of financial ideas for a country.D. To explain what an important role the government plays.35. What’s the author’s attitude towards financial education A. Neutral. B. Doubted. C. Supportive. D. Indifferent.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。For some young people, the usual challenges of growing up may be compounded by difficult family situations, school and social pressures, mental health problems or exposure to drugs and alcohol or violence and abuse. However, there are no easy answers in parenting, 36Uncontrollable causesParents often feel guilty about things that have happened, which may have caused their child to have problems. Yet there are many things that may contribute to a young person having difficulties. 3738Many of the behaviors that cause so much annoyance for parents during their child’s teenage years are actually fairly normal and healthy behaviors for that developmental stage. Understanding the changes that your child is going through may help reduce some of the anxiety that you may be experiencing and may help you to respond to your child’s behaviour in a more affirming way.Parenting AdjustmentThe challenges of parenting an adolescent can be distressing. You may struggle to know how to adjust your parenting to suit this stage of your child’s development. Strategies that worked with young children will not work with teenagers.Family Dynamics39 Understanding the dynamics of your family may help you identify factors that are influencing the way a young person and others in the family are behaving.Parenting StylesEvery parent and child, without exception, has a way of interacting with each other. Sometimes those interactions are highly positive and affirming; 40 How you parent — our parenting style — is influenced by your own parents, your personality, what you learn from people around you, the stresses you face in your life, and your child’s personality and behaviour.A. Parenting Responses.B. Understandable Behaviors.C. We should have more interactions with our children.D. At other times they are volatile and couterproductive.E. Each family has its own patterns of relating to each other.F. Some of these factors are within parents’ control and others are not.G. I was a young adult at the time, my thoughts often shadowed by doubts and fears about my future. My friend and I decided to go out for a drive. It was a beautiful summer evening. I literally had to learn how to walk again. During long days sitting immobile, I started self reflecting and soul searching. I examined my life’s choices and where my life was heading. I’d made a habit of worrying about future events that had not happened yet. My negative thoughts created mood swings, feelings of despair and depression. I suffered, anxiety attacks, headaches, and lack of self esteem. What began as a nightmare, gave me time and space time to learn about personal development and transformation. With time, not only did I dance and play basketball again, I transformed my entire way of life. I learned to change the way I think. I learned to replace despair with hope, reactivity with reflection. What’s even more amazing, that accident helped me discover my life’s purpose. Thirty-five years later, after years of study and driven by a grand vision, I authored a wellness book and founded Splendid Inspiration, an international personal development company. Sharing the lessons I’ve learned and helping others create lives filled with purpose and happiness has become my greatest joy. And now today, as I reflect on the roads we all must travel. I realise that every twist, every turn, and every setback is an opportunity for growth. He said he hoped the artwork would make people happy and move them to go for a walk in what he called “beautiful nature”.The artist recently told The Associated Press that the idea to make such pieces came to him suddenly. “I realized I might have a special ability of coordination to do this,” Widgren said. He visited Lake Pitkajarvi on December 4th. He tested the thickness of the ice as soon as he arrived to make sure it was strong enough to walk and work on. It was 10-15 centimeters thick. After four hours of work, Widgren was done. He then walked up a hill about 150 meters above the lake to get a good look at his large artwork. He took some pictures to mark the effort.Widgren said that before he could make a video, the artwork was hard to see because it has snowed a little. But its lack of permanence is not a problem for its creator. “It’s very important to me that making this kind of art doesn’t leave any marks on nature,” Widgren said. 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 安徽省江淮名校2024-2025学年高二上学期期中考试英语试卷.docx 江淮名校联盟高二听力.mp3
