Henry’s, Ss should first fully understand the whole story, laying a solid foundation for the theme exploring later. Therefore, guiding Ss to understand the passage is the key objective of this class. 2. Information about the author is provided in the text, reviewing it before reading help remind Ss of the surprise endings of O. Henry’s stories. 3. This passage is designed to develop students’ ideas on friendship, encouraging and inspiring them to think deeply about friendship and duty, as well as what is true friendship. Show a picture of The Gift of the Magi and ask Ss to guess the name of the book and ask them who the author is. How much do you know about him Besides the Gift of the Magi, What other stories of O. Ask Ss to find all the characters and figure out the tense of the verbs in conversation of each paragraph. Check the answers (PPT) 2. Ask Ss match the paragraphs with the time zones. (Bb.) III. Reading and Exploring (14 min) Ask Ss to read the text silently and finish the tasks. 1. List all the verbs in conversation in each time zone and ask Ss to write down the words on the Bb. 2. Ask Ss to discuss in pairs and figure out the personality of the characters according to their actions. IV. Thinking and Sharing.(20 min) 1. Encourage Ss to discuss and predict an ending according to the clues given. Ask Ss to present. 2. Ask Ss to read the original ending and answer the questions.
