Good news, coffee lovers:Your daily cup of Joe might be doing good to your heart, namely by helping to reduce the risk of heart failure, suggest the findings of a new study. In an analysis of data from three large studies on the topic, researchers found that those who reported drinking one or more cups of caffeinated (含咖啡因的) coffee a day had “a related decreased long-term heart failure risk”
For the report published in Circulation: Heart Failure, researchers used machine learning to examine data from a large study from the Framingham Heart Study, referencing this data against two other studies." Each study included at least 10 years of follow-up,and altogether the studies provided information on more than 21,000 U.S. adult participants,""researchers said.
When analyzing the Framingham Heart Study, researchers noted that when compared to non-coffee drinkers, coffee drinkers' risk of heart failure decreased by 5% to 12% for each cup they drank each day. As for decaffeinated coffee, researchers noted that it did, not have the same benefits as caffeinated coffee, with one study suggesting that decaffeinated coffee may have an opposite effect.
Dr.David Kao, senior study author, said in a statement, “The relation between caffeine and heart failure risk reduction was surprising. Coffee and caffeine are often considered by the general population to be 'bad' for the heart because people relate them to health problems like palpitations, high blood pressure, etc. The relationship between increasing caffeine consumption and decreasing heart failure risk turns that thought on its head.”
“However, there is not yet enough clear evidence to prove that increasing coffee consumption can decrease the risk of heart disease with the same strength and certainty as stopping smoking, losing weight, or exercising,” Kao noted. The researchers also warned that the findings only focused on black coffee, that is, plain coffee, without added sugar and high-fat dairy products such as cream.
28.What's the finding of the new study
A.The number of heart failure cases has decreased gradually.
B.Coffee can help lower the possibility of heart failure.
C.Caffeine does harm to people's health.
D.Coffee helps cure heart disease
29.How did researchers achieve their finding
A.By searching online for detailed information.
B.By interviewing experts about their opinions.
C.By conducting surveys among young adults:
D.By comparing data from long-term studies.
30.What can directly affect the result of the study
A The brand of coffee B.The age of the subjects
C.The addition of caffeine to coffee. D.The amount of coffee consumption.
31.What is Dr. Kao's attitude towards the result
A.Indifferent. B.Positive. C.Curious D.Careful.
D
Just being smart doesn't mean someone will be successful. And just because someone is less smart doesn't. mean that person will fail. That's one take-home message from the work of people like Angela Duckworth.
She works at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Like many other researchers, Duckworth wondered what makes one person more successful than another. When digging deeper, Duckworth found that the people who performed best shared a quality(品质) independent of smarts. They had what she now calls grit ( 毅力). Duckworth developed a set of questions to test it.
In one study of people 25 and older, she found that as people age, they become more likely to stick with a project. She also found that grit increases with education. People who had finished college scored higher in the grit test than people who quit before graduation did. People who went to graduate school after college scored even higher.
She then did another study with college students. Duckworth wanted to see how smarts and grit influenced performance in school. So she compared scores on college-entrance exams, which test IQ, to school grades and someone's score in the grit test. Students with higher grades seem to have more grit. That's not surprising. Getting good grades takes both smarts and hard work.
But some people counter that this grit means success. Among those people is Marcus Crede, a teacher at Iowa State University in Ames. He recently showed the results of 88 studies on grit. Together, nearly 67,000 people took part in these studies. And grit did not predict success, Credé found.
However,he thinks grit is very similar to someone's ability to set goals, work toward them and think things through before acting. It's a basic personality quality, Credé notes — not something that can be changed.
“Study habits and skills, test anxiety(焦虑)and class attendance are far more strongly connected to school grades than grit," Credé says. “We can teach students how to study well.We can help them with their test anxiety,” he adds. "I'm not sure we can do that with grit."
32.What can we know from the first two paragraphs
A.Grit decides how smart one might be. B.Grit is a quality dependent on smarts C.Success has nothing to do with smarts.
D.Smart people may not live up to their smarts
33.What might influence a person's grit according to Angela Duckworth's findings .
A.Lifestyles. B.Family tradition C.Education. D.Personality types.
34.What does the underlined word “counter”in paragraph 5 probably mean
A.Reply. B.Question. C.Accept. D.Warn
35.In Credé's opinion, grit is a basic quality
A.That can hardly be taught
B.That is strongly related to test anxiety.
C.That should be paid no attention to in teaching.
D.That can't influence students' school grades.

Getting up early has been seen as a good habit since ancient times. Many years ago, people thought that if we went to bed early and got up early, we would be energetic the whole day. So, getting up early is of great importance to us all.
In fact, morning is the best time of a day. In the morning, the air is the freshest and people are usually in the best condition. Many of us may have the experiences that we memorize some things more quickly and correctly in the morning than any other time of the day. And it is certain that we find it easier to understand what we learn. If we get up early and do some morning exercises or only take a short walk in the morning, without doubt we can build up our bodies and become much healthier. Also we will have enough time to make a plan and get ready for our work or study of the day if we get up early. For example, if everyone in the family gets up early, the wife will have enough time to prepare the breakfast for the whole family. Children will have enough time to catch the school bus, and the husband will never forget to change his dirty shirt. Everything is in order. However, if we get up late, we'll probably have to do everything in a hurry.
Getting up early is such a good habit that we should try our best to keep it. If we stick to(坚持)getting up early every day, we will certainly benefit a lot from it.

由最后一段中““However, there is not yet enough clear evidence to prove that increasing coffee consumption can decrease the risk of heart disease with the same strength and certainty as stopping smoking, losing weight, or exercising,” Kao noted.
D
【答案】32 D 33 C 34. B 36. A
根据第一段中的“Just being smart doesn’t mean someone will be successful, And just because someone is less smart doesn’t mean that person will fail.(聪明并不意味着一定会成功,不聪明也不意味着一定会失败。)”和第二段中的“When digging deeper, Duckworth found that the people who performed best shared a quality (品质) independent of smarts.
根据第三段中的“She also found that grit increases with education. People who had finished college scored higher in the grit test than people who quit before graduation did. People who went to graduate school after college scored even higher.(她还发现,毅力随着教育程度的提高而增加。
根据上文的“So she compared scores on college-entrance exams, which test IQ, to school grades and someone’s score in the grit test. Students with higher grades seem to have more grit.
根据最后一段中的“‘We can teach students how to study well. We can help them with their test anxiety,’ he adds. ‘I’m not sure we can do that with grit.’(“我们可以教学生如何好好学习。 故选A。

Dear Richard,
I am glad to tell you that my parents and I are going to travel to Beijing, the capital city of China and home to a number of cultural relics and well-known places of interest.
On our first day of travelling, we are planning to visit the Great Wall, a great wonder created by ancient Chinese people as well as one of the most famous tourist attractions in China. Not until visitors climb the Great Wall will they admire the beauty of it. I can’t wait to visit it! Besides, equally attractive is the Palace Museum where visitors are able to enjoy the amazing scenery. Moreover, recognized as “Chinese treasure house”, the Imperial Palace is also a magnet for me where we will be exposed to the artistic conception of ancient Chinese architecture.
We are taking the train, leaving at 9:00 a.m. next Wednesday.
I’ll buy you a souvenir and I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. (159 words) Yours,
Li Hua
