【辨析】sadly, sorrowfully, unhappily
1. sadly 意为“悲哀地”,悲痛可大可小,为常用语。
He looked at the broken vase sadly.(他悲哀地看着那个打碎的花瓶。)
2. sorrowfully 意为“悲伤地”,是较正式的说法。
The old man left his old house sorrowfully.(老人悲伤地离开了他的老房子。)
unhappily 意为“不高兴地,不幸福地”。
She left unhappily after the argument.(争论之后她不高兴地离开了。)
重点句型
Can and May
1.can和may都可以表示请求,can可以用could,may可以用might代替,语气更委婉,更有礼貌,但时间上没有区别
eg. Can /Could I use your phone please May I use your phone please /Might I use your phone please
含有情态动词的普通回答:
肯定:Of course you can/may.
否定:No, you can’t/ may not.
2.may和might还可以表示推测,“可能……”。may可以用might代替,语气更委婉,更有礼貌,但时间上没有区别may/might +动词原形:表示对现在或未来事情的推测may/might +have 动词过去分词:表示对过去事情的推测
3.may/might as well+动词原形:还是……好(无可奈何),不妨……
eg.Do you think he’ll pass that exam
He’ll never pass. He might as well give up.
be pleased to do 对做某件事情感到很开心
be too pleased to do 太高兴
be not too pleased to 不太高兴
too ...to... 太怎么样以致于没做
not too...to ... 不是太怎么样 , 但是做了
not too old to learn 不是太老能够学
only too... to ... 太希望 太意愿
eg.I am only too pleased to go swimming with you.我就是很高兴能和你一起去游泳。
too ... to ... 太 ... 而不能
不定式 to, 在大部分情况下 , 表示否定概念
not/never too ... to ... 并不太 ... 所以能够
eg.One is never too old to learn. 不是太老以致于能够学习
The question is not too difficult for me to answer.
如果在副词 too 前出现修饰语 all, but, only, 不定式 to 的概念也是肯定的:
eg.They are all too satisfied to work with you.
I am only too glad to have someone to speak to.
He was but too eager to get home.

'The play may begin at any moment,' I said.“剧马上就要开演了,”我说。
at any moment 在任何时候, 随时
It may/might rain (at) any moment.
at the moment =now
at that moment =just then 就在那时
I will help you at any time. 我随时都会帮你
must,can't,may+动词原形, 表示对现在、未来的推测 ;+ have done,表示对过去的推测
‘It may have begun already, ’ Susan answered.“也许已经开演了呢,”苏珊回答说。
★ must, can't, may + 动词原形 , 表示对现在未来的推测 ; must, can't, may + have done 对过去的推测 ;
must 一定 很可能 , may 有可能 ,
can't 不可能 ; may begin 在这句话中 , 说话人指的并不是一种确信不疑的事实 , 而是可能发生的事情 , 因此用了 may + 动词原形 ; may have begun 这句话同样表示可能发生的事情 , 但与上句的区别在于它指的是可能已经发生的事情 , 因此 , 要用 "may + 动词的完成时 [ have done ];
I hurried to the ticket office. 'May I have two tickets please ' I asked.
我匆匆赶到售票处,问:“我可以买两张票吗?”
Can(May) I... 我……可以吗 (表示“……可以吗 ”,第一人称可以和can或may相连)
May I have a ticket (英文中的问句, 常常起礼貌作用)
May I have your name (比 “What’s your name ” 更有礼貌些)Could I... 我现在可以...吗
(在问句中更委婉的说法, 比can I 更礼貌些,但在时间上与can没区别)
Can you... 你可以...吗 (第二人称不能用may来表示“……可以吗 ”,只能用can)
have 是最活跃的词, 可以指任何的意思.
have coffee 喝咖啡have ticket买票 (习惯用法)
I'll have/take sth. 我买……(一般不用“buy”,用“have”习惯用法)
'I'm sorry, we've sold out,' the girl said.“对不起,票已售完。”那位姑娘说。
sell out (店主)售完(某种货物),(货)被售完
They have sold out of eggs.
Tickets for tonight’s performance are sold out.
‘What a pity!’ Susan exclaimed.“真可惜!”苏珊大声说。
exclaimation n. 感叹号 感叹语 ;
what a pity! 真遗憾 , 全句为:
what a pity (it is) ! 这是一个 感叹句 ;
Just then, a man hurried to the ticket office.正在这时,一个男子匆匆奔向售票处。
just then = at that moment 就在那时 正好这时 ;
at any moment 在任何时候 随时 ;
at the moment = now;
‘Can I return these two tickets ’ he asked. ‘Certainly,’ the girl said
“我可以退掉这两张票吗?”他问。“当然可以,”那姑娘说。
can 委婉地提出请求 , 也可以用 may, could (could 比 can 更委婉 );
return v. 回到 退回 n. 返回 ;

certainly adv. 当然 没问题 = of course ;
certain adj. 肯定 确定 确信 = sure ≠ uncertain, unsure;
I went back to the ticket office at once. ‘Could I have those two tickets please ’ I asked.我马上又回到售票处。“我可以买那两张票吗?”我问。
go/come back 返回 = return to;
at once 立刻 马上 = immediately;
could 是代替 can 的一种比较委婉地提出请求的用法 , 在时间上和 can 没有区别 ; have-had-had v. 得到 拥有 , 这里是实义动词 ; may I ..., can I ..., could I ..., should I..., must I... ;
'Certainly,' the girl said, 'but they're for next Wednesday's performance. Do you still want them '“当然可以,不过这两张票是下星期三的,您是否还要呢?”
for next Wednesday's performance,用名词所有格来取代时间,“……时间的”
用介词for, 起修饰作用
ticket for+事情 ……的票
ticket to+地点 去……的票
still adv. 还,可以和任意时态连用
still, yet 都和完成时态连用(原先认为)
'I might as well have them,' I said sadly.“我还是买下的好,”我垂头丧气地说。
may/might as well+动词原形 还是……好(无可奈何),不妨…I might as well take the umbrella with me.
had better+动词原形 最好……(积极心态)
