Jeff felt relieved. Now, he kept his head. He swallowed his pride, following David’s advice. Carefully, the boys followed the marks that they had left, until finally they found their tent. Hurriedly, they packed their belongings and set off in the direction of the river. On the way, Jeff reflected on what had happened. Thinking of those moments when he looked down upon his little brother David and even bullied him, a wave of guilt spread over him. Thanks to David, they didn’t make a big mistake. It was carelessness that made them losing way, and it was calmness that got them to find the way out. Seeing David leading the way ahead, Jeff felt a flood of warmth well up in his body. They walked together until they reached the place the old man was supposed to be. The old man smiled with thankfulness and relief. After helping the old man, the girl didn’t just leave. She spent some more time with him, sharing some interesting stories and making him laugh. The old man’s eyes sparkled with joy, and it was clear that this interaction had brightened his day. The girl’s kindness seemed to have an effect, as other people in the park also noticed and were inspired by her actions.I continued to observe as the girl then decided to stay with the old man for a while longer. They sat on a bench together, and the girl began to tell him about her own life, her dreams, and her adventures. The old man listened attentively, nodding and smiling from time to time. It was a beautiful sight to behold, this unlikely pair sharing such a genuine and heartwarming connection. This encounter made me reflect on the importance of kindness in our society. In a world that can often seem cold and hurried, acts like the girl’s are like the tower of light, showing us the way to a more empathetic (同情的) and caring existence. It also made me think about how we all have the potential to make a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how small the act may be.Now, whenever I recall this scene, it warms my heart and reminds me to be more willing to offer a helping hand, to spread kindness wherever I go, and to believe in the goodness that lies within each of us.24. The silver-haired population represent a massive opportunity for nearly every industry where companies can build a new market for their products and services while creating social value. The main consumption patterns of elderly population can be classified into two categories: health-related consumption and daily consumption. When it comes to health consumption, seniors are not only concerned about healthcare but also increasingly emphasizes disease prevention. In relation to this, preventive health services, such as physical examinations, will have significant room for growth. Evidently, regular physical examinations require a certain amount of time, economic costs and medical support. Therefore, the high-income population in big cities can sustain them for a longer period of time due to their subjective willingness and objective conditions.Another key section of the elderly market is represented by the application of medical devices and technology tailored for seniors. One notable area of development is the adoption of remote monitoring systems. These systems make use of cutting-edge technology to enable healthcare professionals to remotely monitor the vital signs and health status of elderly individuals, providing real-time feedback and intervention when necessary. This not only ensures immediate medical attention but also allows older adults to maintain their independence and age comfortably in their own homes.Acknowledging the importance of social engagement and mental stimulation in enhancing the well-being of seniors, the entertainment industry has emerged as a key component as well. It is centered around offering diverse activities and entertainment options, such as organized tours, social clubs, arts and crafts workshops and music and dance performances, which are meant for the unique preferences and needs of older individuals. They offer a platform for them to connect, share experiences and engage, creating a supportive environment where seniors can enrich life experiences and apply their different talents. The aging population is one of the most important trends in the world, and it’s indeed a powerful force not just socially but economically.28. You need an image of a balloon for a work presentation and turn to an AI text-to-image generator, like Midjourney or DALL-E, to create a suitable image. You enter the prompt (提示词) “red balloon against a blue sky” but the generator returns an image of an egg instead. What’s going on The generator you’re using may have been “poisoned”. What does this mean Text-to-image generators work by being trained on large datasets that include millions or billions of images. Some of the generators have been trained by indiscriminately (任意的) scraping online images, many of which may be under copyright. This has led to many copyright infringement (侵害) cases where artists have accused big tech companies of stealing and profiting from their work. This is also where the idea of “poison” comes in. Researchers who want to empower individual artists have recently created a tool named “Nightshade” to fight back against unauthorized image scraping. The tool works by slightly altering an image’s pixels (像素) in a way that confuses the computer vision system but leaves the image unaltered to a human’s eyes. If an organization then scrapes one of these images to train a future AI model, its data pool becomes “poisoned”. This can result in mistaken learning, which makes the generator return unintended results. As in our earlier example, a balloon might become an egg.The higher the number of “poisoned” images in the training data, the greater the impact. Because of how generative AI works, the damage from “poisoned” images also affects related prompt keywords. For example, if a “poisoned” image of a Picasso work is used in training data, prompt results for masterpieces from other artists can also be affected.Possibly, tools like Nightshade can be abused by some users to intentionally upload “poisoned” images in order to confuse AI generators. But the Nightshade’s developer hopes the tool will make big tech companies more respectful of copyright. It does challenge a common belief among computer scientists that data found online can be used for any purpose they see fit.Human rights activists, for example, have been concerned for some time about the indiscriminate use of machine vision in wider society. This concern is particularly serious concerning facial recognition. There is a clear connection between facial recognition cases and data poisoning, as both relate to larger questions around technological governance. It may be better to see data poisoning as an innovative solution to the denial of some fundamental human rights.32. What does the underlined word “scraping” in paragraph 2 probably mean A. facilitating B. collecting C. damaging D. polishing33. According to the passage, what may adding poisoned data lead to A. increasing the accuracy of returned informationB. causing users to forget the prompt key wordsC. affecting the training of generative AID. discriminating against great masterpieces34. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?A. Data poisoning is somehow justified to direct attention to human rights.B. Computer scientists has learned to respect the copyright of most artists.C. Nightshade is being abused by human rights activists to recognize faces.D. The issue of technological governance has aroused the lawyers’ interest.35. Which of the following might be the best title of the passage A. Data Poisoning:Government Empowering Citizens to Protect ThemselvesB. Data Poisoning:Addressing Facial Recognition Issues Among ArtistsC. Data Poisoning:Risks and Rewards of Generative AI Data TrainingD. She says, “Let fresh air from outside in.” This means that opening up your windows is often the simplest way to disperse anything bad that may be accumulating inside. If you have a central air conditioner, running it can be a good way to bring in outside air.It may make sense to use a fan to improve indoor air quality. For instance, you might place one near an open window to help exhaust indoor air to the outdoors. 38The second thing you can do is called source control, which is keeping sources of pollutants out of the indoor environment if you can, says Pruitt. It can be as simple, Pruitt says, as leaving your dry cleaning outside long enough to air the harmful chemicals out.Cleaning your home is helpful. But Pruitt warns that “ 39 .” She advises, “Read the labels and select safer products when you can.” Purify (净化) the airFinally, if necessary, the third thing you can try to improve your air is purification. For instance, if you want to remove airborne particles like smoke, dust and germs, 40 . “For homes with air conditioners,” says Pruitt, “you have a purifier that you’re supposed to be changing regularly.”A. In late October, a festival was held to celebrate that fact. As part of the celebration, a Swiss railway company decided to set the record for the world’s longest passenger train. The 100-car train that the company ran was 1.2 miles long. The train followed the famous Albula Line, which is known for its turns, tunnels, and bridges, as it rolls through the Swiss mountains. The train took 7 engineers and 21 other specially trained workers to run it. All sections of the train had to be kept running at exactly the same speed. To help the engineers talk to each other, the railway set up a special phone system. The trip covered about 15 miles and took a little over an hour. In that time, the record-setting train passed over 48 bridges and went through 22 tunnels. That’s all for today’s program.
