Parents.BWhen she was young, Sylvia Colt-Lacayo noticed she was particularly fascinated with on - screen stories. Media offered an escape when life was hard.Watching Glee, she was thrilled to see a character who used a wheelchair like her — until she learned the role was played by an actor who was not disabled. “I remember feeling so heartbroken and betrayed(背叛), for no reason other than the fact that I felt seen for once as a 10-year-old watching Glee, and the power of that,” says Colt-Lacayo.Now, Colt-Lacayo is graduating from Stanford with a degree in film and media studies and is heading to Hollywood with a passion for increasing disability representation and diversity in general. “Representation matters, and I also think that diverse storytelling is what is most compelling (令人信服的),” she said.Representation shaped Colt-Lacayo’s path to Stanford. As a disabled Latina girl, she struggled to imagine going to college, in part because she never saw adult wheelchair users in the media. In high school, she met another Stanford student who was also a wheelchair user at a conference. Suddenly, a new story felt possible. When she arrived at Stanford, Colt-Lacayo knew she was often the first visibly disabled student her professors and peers had interacted with. Her parents had taught her to advocate for herself, and while she doesn’t claim the label “activist”, she asks for what she needs.“Yes, there’s something that is in my DNA that makes my body different from other people’s. But really, what makes me disabled is that people treat me differently, and I do not have equal access to resources,” she said. She brought this perspective to her Stanford experience. For her senior thesis(论文), she wrote a screenplay examining how growing up with a disability impacts one’s relationship with oneself and one’s understanding of the world.Colt-Lacayo aims to become an agent for screenwriters and film directors. She hopes that sharing her story gives others the example she wished for when she was young.24. How did Colt-Lacayo initially feel while watching Glee A. Overjoyed and inspired. B. Honored and confident.C. Heartbroken and betrayed. D. Sorrowful and sympathetic.25. What helped Colt-Lacayo picture herself going to college A. Her keen interest in films and media.B. Diverse stories she heard about disability.C. An example of a disabled Stanford student.D. A passion for increasing disability representation.26. What insight did Colt-Lacayo gain about living with a disability A. It naturally leads one to grow into a social activist.B. It mainly involves overcoming physical limitations.C. It offers special advantages for accessing resources.D. It influences one’s outlook on the world and oneself.27. What is the best title of the text A. Telling Stories That MatterB. Speaking up for EqualityC. Struggling to Enter StanfordD. Conquering(征服;战胜)Physical ChallengesCWhat if you threw a party and nobody came, but that’s exactly what you expected That’s precisely what famous physicist Stephen Hawking did on June 28, 2009. He rented a space at Cambridge University and got balloons and decorations. Then he sat in the empty room for a few hours and left.Essentially, Hawking’s time travel party was held for our future generations, should they ever crack the mystery of time travel, one of the biggest challenges faced by modern physics. The setup may seem silly, but Hawking was actually experimenting. That’s because our current knowledge of physics does not strictly forbid time travel. Indeed, in some cases, it’s clearly allowed. The general theory of relativity provides several situations that might enable time travel into the past. One involves a limitlessly long cylinder(圆柱体), which rotates(旋转)fast enough to allow you to travel a path around it and end up in the past. Another is the creation of a worm hole with different time at each end, allowing you to travel down one end and exit into the past.Since nobody showed up to Hawking’s time travel party, we have a few possible conclusions: Time travel into the past is not allowed. Our future generations will discover the fundamental reason why time travel into the past is forbidden and sigh regretfully that they could not accept Hawking’s invitation.Time travel into the past is allowed, but we figure it out so far into the future that Hawking’s invitation doesn’t survive long enough.Time travel into the past is allowed, but we never figure it out. Maybe our human intellect isn’t quite powerful enough to detect the deeper mysteries of the universe.Time travel into the past is allowed, but there are rules. Maybe it is exceptionally complex to build a time machine, or we can send signals into the past, but not entire persons.Of course, if someone from the future had shown up, it would have been a big deal. But, as experiments go, Hawking’s party wasn’t a total failure. In this case, it showed that the mystery of time travel will remain unsolved-at least for the time being.28. Why did Stephen Hawking throw the party A. To publicize his fame. B. To test a physics assumption.C. To welcome certain visitors. D. To benefit future generations.29. What does paragraph 3 mainly discuss regarding time travel into the past A. Its vital importance. B. Its possible methods.C. Its potential influence. D. Its practical applications.30. What possibly led to nobody coming to Hawking’s party A. Insufficient attention B. Disturbed signals.C. Powerful intelligence. D. Lost invitation.31. What does the author think of Hawking’s party A. It was valuable. B. It was impractical.C. It was confusing. D. It was transformative.DSalad plants have already been grown in old shelters and tunnels. Urban farming is a regular topic of interest at places like the World Economic Forum (WEF)in Davos, where leaders consider whether the world’s food system, blamed for causing both obesity(肥胖)and malnutrition(营养不良), can be fixed. There are already plenty of urban farming projects around the world, particularly in the US, Japan and the Netherlands, from urban fish and plant farms to vertical farming.“It’s becoming an expanding industry,” said Richard Ballard, one of the founders of the farm Growing Underground. “There are several other businesses starting up in London in containers, and there are other vertical farms around the country now.”Growing Underground is not a standard farm. The rows of crops could be in almost any tunnel, but these plants are 100 feet below Clapham High Street and show that urban agriculture is, in some cases at least, not a fad. The underground farm has occupied a part of the Second. World War air-raid shelters for nearly five years, and Ballard is planning to expand into the rest of the space later this year.Growing Underground supplies herb and salad mixes to grocery shops, supermarkets and restaurants. Being in London creates an advantage, Ballard says, as they can harvest and deliver in an hour.He adds other advantages. Being underground means temperatures never go below 15 — surface greenhouses need to be heated. They can do more harvests: 60 crops a year, compared with about seven in a traditional farm. Electricity to power the lights is a major cost, but the company believes renewable energy will become cheaper.Similar British companies include the Jones Food Company in Lincolnshire, while in the US AeroFarms has several projects in New Jersey, and Edenworks in Brooklyn.32. What can we learn about urban farming A. Different farming methods are used.B. Local governments pay efforts to develop it.C. It leads to a healthier lifestyle.D. It is rarely discussed at the WEF.33. Which of the following best explains “a fad” underlined in Paragraph 3 A. A plan that has great potential.B. A tradition that appeals to a lot of people.C. An approach that can solve a serious problem.D. A fashion that’s popular for a short time.34. Which of the following is true about the underground farm A. Its major products are herbs and salads.B. It produces more kinds of foods than a traditional farm.C. It is more productive than a traditional farm.D. It uses less energy than a greenhouse.35. What is the theme of the text A. Traditional farming will be replaced soon.B. Growing Underground attracts more people.C. Cunent food system causes health problems.D. Urban farming is still thought costly and time- consuming.第二节 (共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5)When we are faced with a crisis or if we have an important decision to make, many of us fall into the trap of over-thinking. We may keep thinking about something constantly and too long. 36 How can we stop ourselves from over-thinking Doing something to distract yourself is a good idea. You can find working with your hands is especially good. 37 Your brain simply doesn’t have the resources to split itself into a third activity, for example over-thinking.38 Studies have shown that when someone views something in excitement and anxiety, the brain is forced to become stuck in the present because all of your senses are completely engaged. You do not have time to focus on something different, which can cause over- thinking.Constant wishing, hoping and praying do not give you any relief. They just keep you stuck in one place. But taking the smallest step off the crisis really matters. It will set things in motion, making you like a snowball. 39The traps are things that cause your natural ability to react without you realizing that there is a connection between the two. Thus, avoiding relevant traps is also a good idea. 40 For example, if one of your colleagues is so negative that she always drags you down, stop hanging out with her by having lunch alone at a nearby restaurant.A. Put simply, out of sight, out of mind.B. Just as a saying goes, once bitten, twice shy.C. You are really getting your brain working for you.D. Other activities are the ones that arouse your curiosity.E. It engages your movement skills and thinking process.F. Thus, you will gradually move yourself out of the feeling.G. This mindset tends to ruin our day.第三部分 英语知识运用(共三节,满分40)第一节 完型填空(共15小题,每小题一分,满分15分)At age eleven, I was in middle school. I thought I’d given myself enough time to get to the airport, however, as often was the case, I was running late and had to pack my bag with little time left. Confused about what to carry, I stuffed all the clothes in my little bag, taking no notice of the weight.Thirty minutes before the flight, I was waiting at my terminal (航站楼)in the airport and couldn’t stop smiling. I was too excited to go on a much- needed trip. A little while later, I heard an announcement “Passengers flying to Taupo on Flight NZ5091 are requested to weigh your cabin luggage and collect your tag”. I stood in the line waiting for my turn, clueless about how much my bag would weigh, deep inside hoping not over the weight limit. When it was my turn, I placed my bag on the weighing scale and whoaaaa!! It was 9.4 kgs. I asked the flight attendant if I could buy $20 extra luggage allowance(行李费)as shown on the app but I was too late for it. Instead, I was asked to pay an additional fee of $65. I either had to pay or leave something away to bring it down to 7 kgs. I asked the attendant whether they would give my stuff back to me if I returned3 days later and surprisingly I was told I wouldn’t get it back.To me, a bad luggage experience had the power to completely sour a trip. With no other alternatives, I decided to give up some of my stuff. Unsettled, annoyed, disappointed! As I started removing the items, I saw a lady approaching me. It looked like she had heard the whole thing. She sat down next to me. “Are you OK I should be able to help you.” she said.注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Paragraph 1I looked up, surprised, and saw her pointing at her bag. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2While I was worried whether I could get my stuff back, the plane landed. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________大庆实验中学2024—2025学年度上学期高一年级期中考试英语试题参考答案1-5CACBA 6-10ACACB 11-15BAACB 16-20CBACB 21-23BBD 24-27ACDA28-31BBDA 32--35ADCB 36-40GEDFA 41-55ABBCD DBADA CABCC56--60ACAAA 61-65CBBDC66. impressive 67. She said he didn’t take many things and could help me share some of my belongings. I couldn’t believe the help from a stranger. But, I thought to myself “this is the best way.” I am grateful to her for her kindness and transferred my overweight items to her bag. I managed to get on the plane without paying any extra fees. When we got on the plane, our seats were far apart and we didn’t communicate much, so I knew very little about this stranger. While I was worried whether I could get my stuff back, the plane landed. There were a lot of people getting out of the plane. I was waiting for my turn and waiting for the strange woman to pass me by and return my stuff. In fact, I had been prepared for the worst. All sorts of disturbing thoughts ran through my mind. Just then, the strange woman tapped me on the shoulder. And voluntarily returned my things. I thanked the strange woman from the bottom of my heart. It also gave me a new faith in humanity.附录:听力文本Text 1W: Hey, am I crazy, or are the mosquitoes worse than ever this year M: No, they are definitely ruining my summer.Text 3W: Hello. I run my own deep-sea business in the Orkney Islands. It was never my ambition to become a diving instructor. In fact, teaching was the last thing I wanted to do. I’d actually set my sights on becoming a research scientist. It was after high school, during a year off in Australia, that I first went diving. I loved it from the first. Back in Britain, I didn’t study geography or anything connected with diving at university because I’d already got a place waiting for me on a maths course. But I joined an underwater club and I trained for a qualification which allowed me to become a diving instructor. After that, I worked as a diving instructor in South Africa and then Jamaica until I’d saved up enough money to come back to Britain and I did another course—a master’s degree in Marine Resource Development. As soon as the course was over, I set up my own company. The business is called North Atlantic Diving. Some of the clients come from personal recommendations of satisfied customers, and some people respond to the advertisements in magazines. But most of the divers find us when they’re browsing on the Internet. Now, I’m really satisfied with my life and my work. 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源预览
