也叫三文治，欧美传统方便食品。一种典型的西方快速食品，是把面包切成两份後，夹些肉类，如火腿、香肠、培根(烟肉)……加上奶酪(不同的翻译]，这里指cheese，即起司、芝士……)和各种调料制作而成，吃法简单，面包经常轻微地涂上黄油(牛油)或盖在用以调味的烘烤，这能提高三文治的味道。

他的朋友们很快学会了他的这种吃法。以Sandwich先生名字命名的三明治(sandwich)也就慢慢流传了开来，现在三明治已成为风靡世界的快餐食品(snack)。三明治之王是用美国切片面包做的“沙拉三明治”。如果是用圆面包做的，在西海岸叫做“潜水艇”或“鱼雷”，而在东海岸叫做“旋翼直升机”或“英雄”。
