Paris. Can you tell me something about Quebec
42. W: Well, of course. The city of Quebec is the capital of Quebec Province. It lies in the northern
part of Canada. It’s the ninth biggest city in the country.

50. W: Hello, everyone. I have great news to report. Recently, Alice Green was given a higher
position in our company with higher pay. Congratulations to her! As her boss, I’ve seen her
work for our company for a number of years, and things have gone quite well. First, she helped
our sales department increase sales by 200% last year. Before that, we only earned 1,500,000
dollars a year. We have advertised and promoted our products at trade shows, on TV and in the
newspaper, and customers really enjoyed our products and they were satisfied with our service,
too. Our company has become better known, not only in our area but also in other cities. All of
us know that what people say about our business to their family and friends is most important
to our company. Any high technologies can’t compare with it. Besides increased sales, Alice
has established a good working relationship with her colleagues. She recognizes others’ abilities
and respects others’ opinions. I believe she has the ability to lead the sales department in the
right direction. Therefore, she deserves the promotion and pay raise. OK, let’s welcome Alice
Green to speak to us.

It has been four years since Grandma Joy told her grandson that she had never seen the most beautiful views of America. Since then, they have gone on many cross-country trips.
Brad Ryan had been feeling tired of studying in a vet school when he visited his 85-year-old grandma in 2015. He hoped that spending some quality family time would help lift his spirits.
As he was telling his grandma stories of his travels, however, he was heartbroken to hear that she had never seen the ocean or mountains. Ryan then asked his grandmother if she would like to go hiking with him. Needless to say, she was more than happy to agree.
They have since visited 29 different national parks across America---from the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado to the Acadia National Park in Maine. Over the four years, Ryan and his grandma have driven 25,000 miles through 38 states. And it has greatly affected his quality of life. “Seeing it through my grandmother’s eyes, who every morning wakes up and is thankful to be alive has taught me how to live,” Ryan said. “With her, I’ve had to slow down and see life in a different way, which has made it a lot richer.”
“I love my grandma so much, and it’s just really giving me a lot of peace when she passed away. I can go back to these places, feel her spirit, and feel connected to her,” he added.
Ryan posted all of their trips on Facebook. He hopes more young people will spare time to be with their elders. “I want young people to know that hanging out with your grandparents is cool. And there’s so much we can learn from our elders,” Ryan said.
24. Why did Brad Ryan visit his grandma in 2015
A. To please his grandma. B. To cheer himself up.
C. To take his grandma to travel. D. To share his travelling experiences.
25. How did Brad Ryan feel when he heard his grandma had never seen the ocean or mountains
A. shocked B. excited C. doubtful. D. sad.
26. What influence did Brad Ryan’s grandma have on him
A. She told him to have peace of mind. B. She helped him find his life goal.
C. She made him live a better life. D. She gave him a lot of encouragement.
27. What is Brad Ryan’s purpose of posting their trips online
A. To encourage the young to keep their elders company(陪伴).
B. To share his joy of travelling with his grandma.
C. To advise young people to take a trip.
D. To show young people what they can learn from their elders.

Your house may have an effect on your figure(体型). Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.
Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less self-conscious (难为情) when they're in poorly lit places — and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn't have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.
Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites(食欲). In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it's time to repaint, go blue.
Don't forget the clock — or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories (卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you're at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.
Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12 inch plate instead of a 10 inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake (摄入) jumps by 14 percent. And we'll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.
28.The text is especially helpful for those who care about________.
A. their home comforts B. healthy diets C. house buying D. their body shape
29. A home environment in blue can help people________.
A. reduce food intake B. digest food better C. burn more calories D. regain their appetites
30. What are people advised to do at mealtimes
A. Eat quickly. B. Use smaller spoons. C. Play fast music. D. Turn down the lights.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Effects of Self-consciousness B. Ways of Serving Dinner
C. Is Your House Making You Fat D. Is Your Home Environment Relaxing
D
What is the greatest threat to mankind Maybe different people come up with different answers. However, there is no denying the fact that the only threat to humankind, apart from humankind itself, is, without any doubt, the nature. Natural disasters are the result of natural environmental processes that have a damaging effect on people. Natural disasters can come in many forms: such as geological events like earthquakes, tsunamis or mud-rock flows; climatic events like storms, hurricanes or tornadoes and fire events like forest fires and wildfires.
The damage done by natural disasters is mainly as a result of our inability to predict(预测) exactly when they will happen. Although great progress has been made in designing and developing forecasting models for some natural disaster, complete certainty is still impossible. Even to be pessimistic(悲观的), there is a possibility that human beings will never achieve accurate prediction of the happening of all natural disasters.
What's more, even though we were able to predict these disasters from nature, preventing them is equally impossible. So we only have two ways to both prevent injuries or deaths and reduce economic losses to the least. These two methods are to prepare before a natural disaster comes to hit, and to manage the necessary resources and public services after a natural disaster strikes.
These two things have always been at the leading position of the projects of both national governments and international organizations. In the United States, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is responsible for the "preparedness, response and recovery planning" of both man-made and natural disasters.
Most natural disasters cannot be prevented, and both emergency preparation and good disaster management are the best ways to deal with them. Although natural events may appear to serve no purpose but simply to punish and destroy, natural disasters, a perfect symbol of the great power of the nature, are display of our planet's evolution and its state of change.
32. Which can't be regarded as a similarity between tornadoes and earthquakes
A. They can not be prevented.
B. They cause damage to people.
C. They are both geological events.
D. They are both the result of natural environmental processes.
33. The reason why natural disasters cause so much damage is that ________.
A. our forecasting equipment is too old for many natural disasters
B. it is very difficult to predict when exactly they will happen
C. we don't do enough preparation before natural disasters strike
D. we don't have the necessary public services to use after natural disasters strike
34. It may be concluded (作结论)from the passage that ________.
A. good preparation and disaster management are advisable.
B. human beings are pessimistic to the future
C. being well-prepared can avoid economic losses
D. natural disasters can not be predicted at all
35.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. A symbol of the power of nature B. The greatest threat to mankind
C. Reduce losses to the least D. Natural disasters and mankind

W: The people in the city are mostly French-Canadians, and about 95% of them only speak French. They enjoy a better life and live longer than most people in other parts of the world.
M: Wow, it’s such a good place. You must miss it very much, don’t you
W: Yes, but not very often. I was born in New York, and was also brought up there, so I think it’s the best place to live and work.

W: Hello, everyone. I have great news to report. Recently, Alice Green was given a higher position in our company with higher pay. Congratulations to her! As her boss, I’ve seen her work for our company for a number of years, and things have gone quite well. First, she helped our sales department increase sales by 200% last year. Before that, we only earned 1,500,000 dollars a year. We have advertised and promoted our products at trade shows, on TV and in the newspaper, and customers really enjoyed our products and they were satisfied with our service, too. Our company has become better known, not only in our area but also in other cities. All of us know that what people say about our business to their family and friends is most important to our company. Any high technologies can’t compare with it. Besides increased sales, Alice has established a good working relationship with her colleagues. She recognizes others’ abilities and respects others’ opinions. I believe she has the ability to lead the sales department in the right direction. Therefore, she deserves the promotion and pay raise. OK, let’s welcome Alice Green to speak to us.
