It’s used by universities to determine whether students meet academic standards and by students to enhance job prospects or secure admission into post-graduate programs. How is a GPA calculated ●Determine the letter grade and the number of credit hours for each course you take in a term;●Translate the letter grade to grade points using your school’s grading system;●Multiply the grade points by the credit hours for that course;●Add up all the credit hours for the courses;●Divide the total number of the total points by the total credit hours and you get the GPA.Example: Academic Transcript of Jane Smith Winter 2023Courses Letter Grade Grade points Credit hours Total points GPACreative Writing A+ 4.0 3 12 -Psychology A- 3.7 3 11.1 -History B+ 3.3 3 9.9 -Computer Science F 0.0 2 0 -Total - - 11 33What are the consequences of failing college courses ● Every failing grade (F) significantly impacts your GPA for that academic year, limiting clubs, organizations and program choices, as competitive programs require top GPAs.●Most financial aid programs require a specific GPA. A sharp drop in GPA due to several course failures may lead to withdrawal from financial aid programs, unless you retake the courses and pass.●For college athletes on sports scholarships, failing courses repeatedly can lead to losing scholarships and team sports.●Failing multiple courses can result in school removal and affect future applications.21. Where is this text probably taken from A. An academic course guide. B. A campus job fair poster.C. A graduate application form. D. An athletic team schedule.22. What is Jane Smith’s GPA this term A. 3.3. B. 3.0. C. 2.8. D. 1.0.23. What would be a result if you get one F in college A. School removal. B. Loss of financial aid.C. Choice limitation. D. Disqualification in sports.BI often wake up to my alarm after a short night and step out of bed to a day I’ve fought through countless times. I rush my morning routine and run to my car. My radio switches to my favorite song, but I have to listen to an audible (可听的) book for an assignment due tomorrow. When I get to school, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being around all year, I have no clue what’s going on. I then walk to my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night. This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that take three times as long as they’re meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes.I was told that Advanced Placement U. S. History would be my hardest class. But here I am in my element. Despite being three assignments behind, I’m actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but my teacher’s willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high. Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible. I’ve had teachers who teach lecture-based classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn’t work. A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class, or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts. Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won’t be stuck into academic tracks that don’t push them to their full potential.24. Why does the author have to do his homework late at night A. He is assigned extra homework.B. He fails to manage his spare time.C. He needs time to do it well enough.D. He dislikes tasks related to languages.25. What does the underlined part “in my element” in paragraph 4 mean A. Burning the midnight oil. B. Biting off more than I can chew.C. Feeling like a fish in water. D. Having butterflies in my stomach.26. What does the author think of lecture-based classes A. Satisfying. B. Inspiring. C. Rewarding. D. Demanding.27. What does the author advise schools to do for students A. Offer classes with alternatives.B. Ask educational experts to give lectures.C. Advocate out-of-class activities.D. Get teachers trained in special education.CHoney is a sweet treat that most people take for granted. But it is more than just a topping for cakes or a sweetener for tea. It’s a miracle of sorts.Honey is the only food product that humans eat that is made by an insect. Even with all our technical abilities, no one has figured out how to make artificial honey. There’s really no substitute (替代品).A single pound of honey may require a beehive of up to 60,000 bees to visit two million flowers. No wonder some people call it liquid gold! Although amber-colored clover honey tends to be most common, honey comes in a variety of shades and flavors, depending on the flowers that the bees gather nectar (花蜜) from.Honey has been used throughout history in a number of ways. One of the most remarkable things about it is that it never goes bad. It may crystallize, meaning that it becomes solid in parts, but simply warming it slightly will melt the crystals and return the honey to its liquid form.No one knows exactly how long honey has been used by humans, but Spanish cave paintings dated at 7,000BC show early evidence of beekeeping. Honey was also used by the ancient Egyptians as a sweetener, as a gift to the gods, and even as an element used to create mummies. Honey has been found inside the Egyptian pyramids, and although that honey was more than 3,000 years old, it would still taste like honey and be safe to eat. No other food has such lasting power!Besides its many uses as a sweetener, honey has long been used as a medicinal remedy (疗法). Because it’s difficult for any kind of bacteria (细菌) to survive in honey, it makes a perfect barrier on cuts and can prevent infection. Honey is also an effective remedy to relieve a painful throat. It has even been found to be as effective in easing coughs in children. The next time a bee flies through your garden or you spread some honey on a piece of toast, think about the miracle of honey.28. According to the passage, what makes honey unique among the foods that humans eat A. Its various shades. B. Its natural creation.C. Its delightful sweetness. D. Its remarkable history.29. Why does the author mention the honey in the Egyptian pyramids A. To illustrate that it never goes bad.B. To show the cleverness of Egyptians.C. To compare it with the honey in Spain.D. To inform that it originates from Egypt.30. What is one of the medicinal uses of honey A. Promoting bacterial growth. B. Curing throat pain.C. Preventing infection in wounds. D. Resisting common colds.31. Which of the following is the best title for the text A. Honey: a Sweet Miracle of Nature B. Honey: a Timeless TreasureC. Honey: a Natural Medicinal Remedy D. Honey: a Common SweetenerDDuring a judging period for a recent short story contest, I started thinking a lot about dialogue tags. Because in many submissions characters didn’t “say” a thing. They shouted, they inquired, they assumed. Some characters screamed while others murmured. But no one “said” anything. And I started wondering why.The more I thought about it, the more I understood the temptation. We’re always encouraged to use strong, actionable verbs in our prose. Why walk when you can skip or wander Why cry when you can sob or weep Why wouldn’t we reach for exciting verbs instead of dull “said” Why couldn’t each verb be a tiny sparkling gem in its own right The problem, I think, is that every jewel needs a setting to become something more than the sum of its parts. Without something to provide structure, a collection of the world’s most glorious diamonds would still only amount to a heap of rocks.Dialogue is your diamond, friends. When we read your work, your dialogue should be so lifelike that our brains “hear” each line instead of merely reading it. We don’t need to be told a character is shouting—we can sense it in the way they spit out words, clench fists, or storm from the room. What’s more, readers may not initially imagine a particular line being “sobbed”. When we reach the end of a sentence and find out our leading lady has actually sobbed instead of whispered, it pulls us right out of the story. We pause. We reread the line. We adjust our understanding and begin again. But that wonderful momentum when we’re fully immersed in the scene, holding our breath to find out what our heroine says next, is lost.Creating a successful work of fiction is about giving the reader all the materials they need to build your fictional world in their mind. Readers need believable dialogue. And if you’ve created dynamic characters who speak words we can really hear, you will never need to tell us how something was said.32. What do we know from the first two paragraphs A. The word “said” is overused in our stories.B. The use of exciting verbs makes characters alive.C. Varieties of verbs are preferred by judges at contests.D. Strong verbs are considered to be an eye-catcher.33. According to the author, ________ contributes most to a good story.A. a talkative character B. a vivid conversationC. a collection of dialogue tags D. a wild imagination34. Which of the following does the author probably agree with A. Creative dialogue tags help keep readers immersed in reading.B. What was said should be prioritized over how it was said.C. Readers may better understand a scene after rereading the line.D. The more materials a work of fiction contains, the more successful it is.35. What argumentative methods are used in this article ① Using examples ② Justifying an assumption③ Comparing and contrasting ④ Appealing to readers’ emotionsA. ①② B. ②④ C. ③④ D. ①③第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。When I was a kid, I took traveling with my parents for granted. Sure, they paid for everything. But they were basically no different from teachers taking us to a field trip. 36 . For example, they took us to Denali National Park instead of Disney World. And we sometimes stayed at hotels without pools. And they never let us buy anything from the SkyMall catalog (目录).Of course, some 20 years later, I consider traveling with my parents, now both in their 60s, to be the utmost privilege. 37 . Neither am I, and every day that passes brings us closer to our last. Fortunately, since graduating college, I’ve been able to cover some serious ground with each of them.Together my dad and I have looked for the Loch Ness monster in Scotland, photographed wildlife in Grand Teton National Park, and most recently, survived the famously dangerous Drake Passage. Meanwhile, my mom and I have stayed at a $9/night treehouse hostel in Mexico, eaten at a Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant in Vienna, and most recently, road-tripped through three states.38 . After all, even if you’re the apple that fell right under the tree, traveling with the people who raised you isn’t always easy. “ 39 ,” says Alexis Sherry, a New Jersey-based travel agent. Still, Sherry is seeing an increasing number of clients requesting vacations for more than one generation. They can be difficult to plan, but so far she says she’s had no “disasters,” and often, her clients come back closer than ever.“Our parents are our earliest attachment bonds,” says Katied’ Autremont, a licensed professional adviser based in Bozeman, Montana. “It can be healing and fun to rekindle that bond in our adult years and as our adult selves.” She sees traveling together as the perfect opportunity for getting to know each other for who we are now, with “now” being the key word. 40 .A. Those memories are goldenB. I know they’re no longer unbeatableC. After all, as humans, we’re always evolvingD. That’s not to say that all of our trips have been without flawsE. To my brothers and me, they seemed to be bent on limiting our funF. Planning a vacation can be considerably tricky when it involves demanding parentsG. The machine made loud noise while it carried the bales up to the hayloft (干草棚), where Callie’s dad piled them up.All was quiet when Callie went inside to feed the horses. But as she filled the water bucket, she thought she heard a faint meow (猫叫声) from the hayloft. She climbed the steps to the loft and listened. The sound seemed to be coming from behind the bales. She ran to get her dad and Briggs. Briggs cocked his head, “It’s coming from outside”, he determined. “Just a bird in a tree.” Callie’s dad agreed. “Probably a mockingbird or a catbird,” he said. “How do you know for sure ” Callie said.“I guess we’ve just got better ears than you,” Briggs joked. But Callie wasn’t convinced. She checked the hayloft again after supper. “Are you stuck in there, kitty ” she said, pressing an ear to the bales. “Meow!” came a sad cry. Callie raced back to the house. “I heard it again, Dad! Will you please listen once more ” “It’s okay, Callie,” her dad said, comforting her. “I’ll go and take a look.”A few minutes later, he poked his head into Callie’s room. “The only thing I heard out there was a mockingbird,” he said. “So you can stop worrying.” “OK, Dad,” Callie said. But she woke in the night thinking about what she’d heard. What if a kitten was trapped behind the bales She lay on her back, wondering what to do.Finally, she changed into jeans and a sweatshirt, and then walked quietly into Briggs’s room. “I need your flashlight (手电筒).” she whispered. “Huh ” Briggs was confused. “I need it to find the kitten,” Callie explained. “I’ll be careful” Briggs huffed. “You are so stubborn!” “You’re the best,” Callie said.注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头已为你写好。Paragraph 1: She grabbed the flashlight and rushed to the hayloft. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2: Thanks to Briggs’s help, the last heavy bale was moved, revealing a tiny, frightened kitten. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________曹县第一中学2024-2025学年高三上学期第二次月考英语试题答案听力1-5 ACBCC 6-10 CACAB 11-15 CAACA 16-20 ACBAB阅读理解21-23 ABC 24-27 CCDA 28-31 BACA 32-35 DBBD36-40 EBDGC完形填空41-45 BCACB 46-50 CADBB 51-50 CADDB语法填空56. in 57. have measured parison 59. to weather 60. is referred61. a 62. watching 63. influenced 64. which 65. actively应用文My First Experience in CareerLast month, I had the privilege of participating in our school’s initiative, “My First Experience in Career.” It aimed to provide students like me with a glimpse into diverse professions. My journey began at a local hospital, where I shadowed as a diligent nurse for a day. Just when she was at a loss, she heard her brother’s voice. “I’ll do it!” Briggs was already halfway up the ladder to offer help. Thanks to Briggs’s help, the last heavy bale was moved, revealing a tiny, frightened kitten. Its fur was matted with hay, and it shivered as Callie carefully reached out to it. “It’s okay, little one. I’ve got you now,” she whispered, gently cradling the kitten in her arms. It looked up and purred, blinking its eyes at Callie. “I think she’s saying thank you.” Briggs remarked, “You’ve got better ears than me.” Callie let out a breath and grinned, “Thank you for helping me. You are always the best!” In the bright moonlight, the brother and sister walked home with their new friend, chatting and laughing, their hearts full of joy.【听力文本】Text 1W: I need to get a file for the new term.M: They will give us one on the first day at school.W: Good. As you may know, Castle Howard was badly burnt in a fire two years ago. But it will be open to the public for the first time in two years on Sunday, the 2nd of April. The opening times are from 10:00 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. from Monday to Friday, 10:30 a. m. to 4 p. m. on weekends. You’ll be able to visit it all through the summer until the1st of October, when it will be closed again. It’s well worth a visit. You’ll need a whole day just to wander around its splendid rooms.
