AP at a GlanceGet an Overview of the AP Program
The Advanced Placement Program (AP) enables willing and academically-prepared students to pursue college-level studies while they are still in high school. The program develops college-level courses that high schools can choose to offer and corresponding AP exams that are administered once a year.Fast Facts
·AP courses are available in seven subject categories.
·Each AP course is modeled on a comparable introductory college course in the subject.
·Each course comes to an end in a standardized college-level assessment or an AP exam.
·AP exams are given in May each year at testing locations all over the world.
·Schools must be authorized by the AP Course Audit to offer approved AP courses and use the “AP” designation (名称).Advantages

Several days ago, I was walking home from school and saw some writing on a fence of a house I was passing by. It said, “Happiness is a direction, not a destination.” I had been having a bad day and just reading this brightened my day a little. I also took out a pen and wrote one of my favorite quotes (格言) down.
When I came back to the fence, I saw another quote under mine in the same handwriting as the first one. I added another, and we kept at this pattern for quite a while. One day, I was writing another quote on the fence and the old man, one of my neighbors, who owned the fence, saw me. He came out and I was afraid he would be mad at me for writing on his fence; he was not known to be very friendly. He gave me a sharp glance and then read the quotes on the fence. Without saying a word, he said something to himself and then went back inside. I was a bit terrified for a while, afraid to go back to the fence, but when I did, I noticed not more quotes but two words in entirely different handwriting had been added, “Thank you.”
Later, I saw the old man in his front yard. He beckoned (招手示意) me over and told me how my quotes had been inspiring him, how he thanked me and how he was glad to see young people still have “values”. We are now good friends and I talk to him a lot. This experience has changed my life. I still don’t know who wrote that very first quote, but if he is out there, I’d like to say “thanks” to that unknown friend.
24.Why did the writer begin to write a quote on the fence
A.He wanted to practice his handwriting. B.He had gotten some help from the quote.
C.He thought that doing this was interesting. D.He wanted to draw his neighbor’s attention.
25.Why was the writer afraid when he found that his neighbor had seen him
A.He had thought that the old man was a mad person.
B.He had once been told that the old man was unkind.
C.He thought the old man would scold him for what he had done.
D.He thought the old man would tell his parents about his action.
26.Before reading the quotes on his fence the old man .
A.was very happy B.did not mind them C.was a bit angry D.was very sad
27.Who must have added “Thank you” to the fence
A.The old man. B.Someone else. C.The writer himself. D.That unknown friend.

Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.
Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing (摆动) and one foot remain in contact with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.
Like running, race walking is physically demanding. According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories (卡路里) per hour, which is about twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour.
However, race walking does not cause as much pressure on the body as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.
As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be careful in doing the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first ask a coach or an experienced racer to learn the proper technique, she says. It takes some practice.
28.Why are race walkers conditioned athletes
A.They must run long distances. B.They have to follow special rules.
C.They are qualified for the marathon. D.They are good at swinging their legs.
29.What advantage does race walking have over running
A.It’s less challenging physically. B.It’s more popular at the Olympics.
C.It’s more effective in body building. D.It’s less likely to cause knee injuries.
30.What is Dr. Norberg’s suggestion for someone trying race walking
A.Doing regular exercises. B.Getting experts’ opinions.
C.Having a medical checkup. D.Hiring an experienced coach.
31.Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking
A.Doubtful. B.Objective. C.Supportive. D.Worried.
D
If you want to become a fluent English speaker, you should take some advice: there are four skills in learning English. They are listening, speaking, reading and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills, you should first master the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentences, the meaning of the unfamiliar words, etc.
There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you encounter, but the fact you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare yourself a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening, you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for children. Their languages are easy. Or if you are good at listening, you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and preferably taking some notes. If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically, and you can be sure that with a little effort they will become perfect.
32.According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills
A.Reading and listening. B.Reading and writing.
C.Writing and speaking. D.Speaking and listening.
33.To improve your reading, when you read, you should ________.
A.look up all the new words in the dictionary
B.think about what you are reading actively
C.spend more time studying grammar
D.copy as many words and sentences as possible
34.What does the underlined word “encounter” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Meet by accident. B.Wind up.
C.Lose on purpose. D.Look for.
35.Which of the following may the author agree with
A.Everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day.
B.You needn’t practice listening if you keep in reading every day.
C.Being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening.
D.You should take notes of whatever you are hearing.
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In our day-to-day lives, we must interact with a wide variety of people. Some of them are easy to get along with, but others can be more challenging. It' s impossible to like everyone. 36 With the right attitude and good social skills, you really can get along with just about everyone.
37 People with a genuinely positive attitude are seen as more attractive and charming by others. The more you can cultivate this outlook in your own life, the more people will like you.
Don't make promises you can't keep. It can be difficult to say no to people, especially when you want to get along with everyone and may whole-heartedly want to say yes to everything. 38 This is part of communicating effectively.
Respect differences between people. Accepting the fact that people are different from you, and that doesn't make them wrong, is part of having a positive attitude. The difference may be in terms of behavior, culture, or opinion. These differences are not only okay. 39
Keep it short. 40 And one of the best ways to get along with difficult people is not to spend any more time with them than necessary. You are less likely to have a conflict with them if you spend less time with them.
A.Develop a positive outlook.
B.They make life more interesting.
C.Find out before you judge them for yourself.
D.But there are ways to say no without being mean.
E.Some people are a lot harder to get along with than others.
F.Yet sometimes we have to get along with people whether we like them or not
G.When you have to interact with difficult people, do your best to keep it fact-based

六、读后续写
67.阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
In the back of my closet is a small box that has followed me to every new address. It’s the first thing I find a place for as the moving truck pulls away. The only remaining contents in it are dozens of notes in my mother’s tidy writing. My mother, who put her business degree to use running a small company with my father, while raising me, was always prepared and always gave me abundant love. By day she made marketing slogans and distribution strategies. By night: bubble baths and bedtime stories. She and I had the same February birthday. Each year my parents arranged wonderful parties.
When I was 3, she learned she had advanced breast cancer and immediately began to prepare by rescarching every available treatment. Each day, she would sit for hours at our dining table, her straight dark hair tied back, surrounded by piles of paper, studying, technical paragraphs.
When I was 7, the materials on the dining table began to change. Wrapping (包装) paper and ribbons (丝带) took the place of her highlighted pages. Paper creased (折) under her fingers. Knots (蝴蝶结) came together with a tiny creak. She had begun making a gift box for me.
Inside, she packed presents and letters for the milestones of my life she would miss—graduation, wedding, and every birthday until the age of 30. My mother died 10 days before our shared birthday. That morning, when I turned 12 and she would have turned 49, I woke up early and opened the box as my mother had shown me.
Neat rows of brightly wrapped presents glowed like the spring tulips (郁金香) that were just coming up in the front yard. In the package marked “12th Birthday”, I found a little ring with an amethyst (紫水晶) at its center. A white card curling around the present read: “I always wanted a birthstone ring when I was a little girl. I hope you like it, too. Happy birthday, darling girl! Love, your Mommy.”
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好。
On the morning of my high school graduation, I walked to the box.

I was interested in their way of life and the deep connection they have with the natural world. As I stepped on the forest floor, I was immediately shocked by the bright colors and sounds of the rainforest. Then I was greeted by the local people warmly and they offered to take me on a tour of their village. I walked, passing by towering trees and colorful birds. And they showed me how they hunted, fished and searched for food in the forest. They also took me to pick some plants and told me how they used them for different problems and sicknesses. I also learned about their traditional dances and music, which were an important part of their culture. Above all, I joined a hunt, where I saw their skills and how they were able to survive in such a tough environment. So I returned home with respect and admiration for the local people and their way of life.

After the concert...er...well, I finish work at about half past ten, then have dinner in a restaurant with some friends from the band. I usually take a taxi from the restaurant, and get home at about half past twelve. Then I watch TV or read a book, and go to bed at about 2:00 in the morning. And, that’s my day.

66.Dear Jane,
I am really sorry to hear that you feel bad after a quarrel with your best friend. I’d like to give you some suggestions about it.
In fact, good friends may have different ideas on specific things, so you don’t have to worry too much about it. There is also something that you can do to change this situation. First, you should apologies to your friend, which can resolve the conflicts and let your friend calm down. Then, have a chat with your friend directly and honestly. I believe communicating is the best way to rebuild a friendship. Thirdly, the most important thing you need to do is to rethink your behavior. Don’t say anything when you lose temper. What you said in anger will deeply hurt your friend.
I hope my suggestions will be useful to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.On the morning of my high school graduation, I walked to the box. The box sat quietly at the foot of my bed, as if waiting for me. Unexpectedly I found out the package labeled “graduation” and unwrapped it. A string of pearl necklaces caught the eyes. Her note read, “There seemed to be a tradition in my family that when girls graduated from high school, they received a string of pearls. You must be shiny at the ceremony.” As I read, I wanted to fall through the white, lightly textured page and into her arms. Wearing the pearls that afternoon, I accepted my diploma.
Today I hit 31, and I sat in my room, holding the nearly empty box. For 20 years I have pulled love from the box. When I was a child, opening the next package seemed like a treasure hunt. As I grew older, it became something far more fundamental, her messages meeting me like guideposts in a dark forest. There is no gifts left in the box now, but these letters are a constant reminder that I have already been given what every child, what every human, needs. I have been fiercely, extravagantly, wildly loved. The love is powerful enough to help me carve my life in my whole life.
