  The Richfield Museum of Fine Art is proud to present our new exhibition,“From Shang to Qing: Chinese Art Through the Ages.”Join us as we explore more than 3,000 years of wonderful art from the Middle Kingdom.From bronze bowls to ceramic vases,and jade sculptures to ink wash paintings,our goal is to display the Chinese artistic genius from ancient times.
The highlight of this exhibition is the painting Clearing After Snow on a Mountain Pass,one of the great works of Tang Yin (1470-1524).Born during the Ming Dynasty,Tang sought and failed to gain entry into the civil service,so he turned to painting instead.In time,he gained recognition as one of the greatest artists China has ever known.This painting,showing high mountains,trees,and houses covered in snow,was made with extraordinary skill. Though it is over 500 years old,it looks as fresh and full of life as the day it was created.

  逻辑是连接一篇文章的筋骨脉络,每一篇听力文章都有着严谨的层次和逻辑关系。句子之间常见的逻辑关系有因果、转折、对比、顺承、举例等。在听力过程中有意捕捉逻辑关系词对提高听力质量,快速准确地选择正确答案无疑是十分有益的。
常见的逻辑关系词(短语)主要有why、because、and、but、for、then、yet、so、therefore、by、due to、that means、the main reason is等。

W:A big dog celebrates a big birthday this year.Clifford,the big red dog,first appeared 50 years ago along with Emily Elizabeth,a little girl who loves him.Today,we have Norman Bridwell,to talk with NPR’s reporter on his dog’s 50th birthday.So,Norman,tell us how it all started.
M:Well,it was 1962,and I was a struggling,not very successful artist in New York.My wife suggested that I try my hand at painting for children’s books.So I did ten paintings and took them to publishers.I was turned down everywhere,except at one publisher,where a young woman told me I wasn’t very good.So if I wanted to paint for a book,I’d need to write one on my own.
W:So you did
M:Umm...the woman pointed to a painting I’d done,of a little girl with a big red dog,and she said,“Maybe that’s a story.”And I went home,and over that weekend I wrote the story Clifford the Big Red Dog,and was shocked when it was accepted for publication,because I’d never written anything before.
W:I see.How wonderful!
M:Yes,it was! My wife was also in shock when she did realize it wasn’t a dream.But,it was just luck.
W:But that luck turned into 90 Clifford books that have sold 126 million copies in 13 languages.

一、名词从句概述
1.含义及分类
在句子中起名词作用的句子叫名词从句(Noun Clauses)。名词从句的功能相当于名词词组,它在复合句中能担任主语、宾语、表语、同位语等。因此根据它在句中不同的语法功能,名词从句又可分别称为主语从句、宾语从句、表语从句和同位语从句,本单元重点讲解前三种从句。
2.常用引导词
(1)从属连词:that、whether、if (连接作用,不作成分)。
(2)连接代词:who(ever)、what(ever)、which(ever)、whom(ever)(作主语,宾语,表语,定语等名词成分)。
(3)连接副词:how(ever)、where(ever)、when(ever)、why(作状语)。
语序:名词从句一律用陈述语序。
二、主语从句、宾语从句和表语从句的用法和特点
1.主语从句
主语从句是指在句中作主语的从句,位置与陈述句的主语相同。若主语部分结构较长,可以使用形式主语it,把真正的主语从句放于后面。
What impresses me most is his famous philosophy of life. (人物介绍,2023·全国甲卷)
给我印象最深的是他的著名的人生观。
Whether the sports meet will be held is not certain now.
运动会是否将举行现在不能确定。

2.宾语从句
宾语从句是指在句中作宾语的从句。宾语从句可分为三类:动词后的宾语从句、介词后的宾语从句和形容词后的宾语从句。形容词后跟宾语从句的用法只限于少数动态形容词、如sure(确信的)、certain(肯定的)、afraid(担心的)、confident(有把握的)等。

3.表语从句
表语从句是指在复合句中,位于连系动词之后作表语的从句,一般结构为“主语+连系动词+表语从句”。
可接表语从句的连系动词有be、look、remain、seem、sound等。

(1)表语从句实际上是对主语进行补充说明,从句表达的是主语的内容。
The fact is that he didn’t notice the car until too late.
事实是他注意到汽车时已经太晚了。
(2)主句的主语是名词idea、advice、suggestion、order、request、requirement、desire等时,表语从句应用虚拟语气,即谓语动词用“(should+)动词原形”。
He expressed a desire that the papers (should) be made public.
他表示希望这些文件能公之于众。
(3)because、why引导的表语从句。
He failed.That is because he didn’t work hard.
他失败了。那是因为他没有努力工作。
He didn’t work hard.That is why he failed.
他没有努力工作。那是他失败的原因。
(4)主句主语为reason时,表语从句的引导词要用that,一般不用why或because。
The reason for such a serious accident is that the driver was drunk.
发生如此严重的一起事故的原因是司机喝醉了。
三、名词从句要注意的难点
1.用whether而不用if的情况
(1)引导主语从句和表语从句时;(2)引导介词的宾语从句时;(3)引导词与or not连用时;(4)引导词后接to do时;(5)有些动词如leave、put、discuss、decide等后的宾语从句。
We discussed whether we should hold a meeting.
我们讨论了是否应该举行会议。
It depends on whether we have enough time.
这取决于我们是否有足够的时间。
I don’t know whether or not the report is true.
我不知道这份报告是不是真的。
2.that与what引导名词从句的区别
that在从句中不充当句子成分,也没有含义;what可以在从句中作主语、表语、宾语,意思是“……的事情,什么样的”。
That he failed in the test again really puzzled us. (that在主语从句中不作成分,不可以省略)
他又一次没通过考试,这真让我们感到迷惑不解。

3.wh-与wh-ever引导名词从句的区别
连接词what、which、who分别表示“……的东西或事情”“哪一个”“谁”,表示疑问含义;而whatever、whichever、whoever分别相当于anything that、any...that、anyone who,意为“无论……”,强调一切情况。试比较:
What you choose to wear should be clean.
你选择穿的衣服应该是干净的。
Whatever you choose to wear should be clean.
无论你选择穿什么衣服,都应该是干净的。
