Yuebai(月白),qielan(窃蓝) and shiqing(石青)...Do you know these words about the color blue? It's how ancient Chinese people talked about different kinds of blue—light or deep.Yuebai is not white. It's a kind of blue close to the color of the moonlight.
Ancient Chinese people divided colors into basic colors and mixed colors. There were five basic colors:blue, red, yellow, white and black.People could put them together to get mixed colors. For example, mixing yellow and blue gets green.Thousands of colors came in this way.
Colors have special meanings in Chinese culture. In ancient China, color was a symbol of social positions. For example, yellow stood for power. And officials of different ranks(不同品级的官员) wore clothes with different colors.Only officials of the top three ranks could wear purple clothes.Blue was for those in the two lowest ranks.
In fact, many beautiful color names come from famous works. For example, dongfangjibai(东方既白) is a light blue color. It comes from a work written by Su Shi.The blue color describes the color of the sky before the sun rises.Like this, the pink color taoyao comes from The Book of Poetry (《诗经》).This color describes blooming peach trees(盛开的桃树).Sounds beautiful, right? These colors from ancient China show the understanding of beauty.

From an early age, we were taught that if we wanted to be successful, we had to study hard and get good results at school. In fact, good students may just end up doing jobs they don’t like, and some even lead an unhappy life. Why is it like that
In some parents’ eyes, school grades matter most for their kids. In reality, there are many things to consider besides the school subjects, for example, how to be a happy person, what to do to keep healthy, and how to get along well with others. That is to say, school is not just enough if you want to have a great life.
Doing well in school is different from doing well in life. Studies show that people who failed at school may not end up failing in life. You may have already known that some famous people, like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs, didn’t do very well at school or even failed to finish school. In fact, there are a lot more than just the big shots who are successful in life without finishing school. They seize (抓住) every chance to learn and finally make it to the top.
Life is really a long lesson, so long that you can’t define (界定) a person’s success by just one section (部分) of it. If you have already finished school, keep learning because what you have learned at school will never be enough to live a satisfying life. If you are still studying, whether you are good or bad at school, don’t take your school results too seriously as long as you have put your heart into it. Keep learning to make the most of your talents (天赋). That’s how you can live a happy and successful life.

My friend recently told me about a film called The Farewell. It’s about a Chinese-American girl who lives with her parents in the United States. I was deeply attracted by the protagonist’s (主角的) family, so I decided to watch the film.
The opening scene shows Billie, the main character, on the phone with her grandma. Later on, the film tells that her grandma has cancer and only has a few months to live. The family decide to keep it a secret because they want Grandma to live the rest of her life free from worry.
Billie finally finds out about Grandma’s illness and wants to tell her, but her mom tells her not to. A few days later, Billie and her parents go back to visit her sick grandma, possibly for the last time. Staying with her grandma, Billie tells a lot of stories to her grandma and it also reminds her grandma of her childhood. Billie learns many valuable lessons and makes lots of happy memories.
This was a very emotional(感人的)) film to watch, especially the scene when Billie had to say farewell(再见) to her grandma. She was crying because she thought it would be the last time she would see her. Luckily, her grandma lives for another six years.
This film shows the cultural differences between China and America. For example, Billie was brought up in the US, where they teach children to always tell the truth. But sometimes, you have to consider the impact the truth will have on someone’s life, and it’s probably better to tell a good “lie” than the truth.

63. What can we learn from the passage
A. Cultural differences make family relations worse. B. Billie tells her grandma the truth.
C. After being ill, Billie’s grandma still lives happily for years. D. Billie’s grandma brings her up.
64. The word “impact” can be replaced by “________”.
A. 不同 B. 记忆 C. 影响 D. 印象
65. What is TRUE according to the passage
A. People in the U.S. always teach children to tell a lie.
B. The family decide to hide the illness from her grandma.
C. People are not touched by the farewell scene.
D. It’s worse to tell a good “lie”.

Before arriving in China, I had read lots of books about China. So when I arrived, I was excited to be living in this huge historically and culturally rich country. It was so greatly different from the UK. The food, the landmarks, the big cities and everyday life----I couldn't wait to find more.
However, learning Chinese hadn't even entered my mind, not because I was lazy, but because I had no confidence to learn the most difficult language in the world. Besides this, once I moved to China, I lived in Shanghai. It is an international city, with many people speaking English as a second language. So I thought English would be sufficient.
But after a year in China I found many expats(侨民)spoke Chinese. I felt uncomfortable because so many Chinese people could speak English while I couldn't even speak the most basic Chinese. To face the challenge, I decided to begin my language journey and my only regret is that I didn't start earlier.
In the two years since starting to learn I have made great progress. Now, I am able to talk in Chinese on many topics. Learning to speak Chinese isn't as difficult as I once expected. When I speak to Chinese people in Chinese they almost always understand me. The most challenging thing is listening since Chinese people talk at such a speed. I can't always understand what's been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this. Learning Chinese has taken a lot of hard work. But there is still a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency(流利).Learning Chinese not only helps me in day-to-day life, but deepens my cultural understanding of such a great country. So, to all my non-Chinese friends I say this: Don't be afraid, face the challenge and be confident.
66. What did the writer do after arriving in China
A. Read a lot of books about China. B. Couldn't wait to study Chinese.
C. Tried to learn more about China. D. Missed his life in his home of UK.
67. What does the underlined word“sufficient”in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Enough. B. Important. C. Necessary. D. Possible.
68. What can we learn about the writer from Paragraph 3
A. He had many friends in China.
B. He was uncomfortable when Chinese people speak English.
C. He started a new journey in China.
D. He thought he should have started to learn Chinese earlier.
69. Why does the writer think listening is the most challenging
A. He has a hearing problem. B. Chinese people speak too fast.
C.Chinese is the most difficult language. D. He doesn't know much about many topics.
70.Which is the main idea of the text
A. A new opinion in learning. B. Exploring the joy of learning Chinese.
C. The writer's journey of learning Chinese. D. The value of learning a new language.
