Eric Moussambani is the first swimmer from Equatorial Guinea to compete in the Olympics. He found his passion for swimming shortly after high school. At the time, he didn't know how to swim, but he knew it was a sport he wanted to pursue.
Unfortunately, there were no standard swimming pools in his country. Eventually, he found a hotel pool where he could only swim three hours a week. When he couldn't use the pool, he trained in rivers and the sea, with the local fishermen guiding him on how to use his legs and arms.
After about eight months of swimming, Eric gained entry into the 2000 Summer Olympics through a program designed to encourage sports development in developing countries.
In Sydney, Eric saw an Olympic-size swimming pool for the first time. It was so big that Eric said he was so frightened to compete in it. In preparing for his event, Eric trained at the same time as the US team and took the opportunity to study their techniques closely. A South African coach gave him a pair of competition trunks (泳裤) and some goggles (护目镜), which were what he needed badly.
On September 19, 2000, Eric stepped out for the men's 100m freestyle competition. With his two fellow competitors stopped from taking part for making false starts, Eric suddenly found himself racing on his own. "I swam the first 50m really well," said Eric after the competition. "I focused all my energy on telling myself to keep going." After turning for the second length, however, Eric began to pay for spending so much energy on the first. As his legs stiffened (变僵硬), he felt he was going nowhere. "It was then that I heard the crowd shouting, encouraging me to 'Go, go, go'. It gave me the strength to make it to the end."
Eric finished the race with a time of 1:52.72, the slowest recorded time in Olympic history. But the audience did not care. They cheered him as if he had broken the world record. To this day, Eric is still an Olympic hero.
24.What is true about Eric before he participated in the Sydney Olympics
A. He had nobody to teach him how to swim.
B. He had never trained in a standard swimming pool.
C. He developed his love for swimming from his childhood.
D. He entered the Olympics by beating all the other competitors.
25. What can we learn from paragraph 4
A. Eric had made full preparations for his event.
B. The US team offered to teach Eric some techniques.
C. Eric was eager to compete in the Olympic swimming pool.
D. Eric didn't even have proper equipment for the competition.
26.Which of the following best describes Eric's 100m freestyle competition
A. Inspiring. B. Competitive. C. Successful. D. Meaningless.
27. What is Eric mainly remembered for
A. His outstanding talent for swimming.
B. His strong willpower to reach his goal.
C. His record-breaking performance at the Olympics.
D. His great achievements in the world's sports development.

Teenager Therapy”, hosted by five rising seniors at Loara High School in Anaheim, Calif., has become a breakout hit. The podcast show features five teens having loose, sincere conversations about mental health, school and family, friendships, and more. Sometimes they interview big names, including Loren Gray. But typically, the show is more of a free-form discussion.
“There are episodes where we offer advice about teenage life, and there are episodes where we simply talk about our experiences,” said Gael Aitor, 17.
He got the idea for “Teenager Therapy” in 2018 after hearing “Couples Therapy”, a podcast by the YouTuber Casey Neistat and his wife. The then 15-year-old rounded up four friends to record the first episode of “Teenager Therapy”. “The first two tries were terrible,” Mr. Aitor said. “The third time we were happy with it, so we posted it online.”
Building a podcast audience is no easy job, especially since the group of high schoolers had no marketing budget. To attract listeners, Mr. Aitor repurposed an old Instagram account, which had 20, 000 followers.
Within a few months of posting their first episode, “Teenager Therapy” had over 100, 000 downloads — a number it can take years for self-governing podcasts to hit. From there, the show kept growing. But part of the great popularity of the show is that it’s produced for teenagers by several hosts from the same age group. “People often say, ‘I don’t know who to tell but you guys,’” said Mr. Aitor. “We never really scripted (写脚本) anything or planned it out.”
Maya Gabay, 16, a rising high school junior, said the podcast was now her favorite show. “The podcast never holds back on anything,” said Ms. Gabay, who, like many other young listeners, considers it as their lifeline. The podcast has helped her process things going on in her life, including problems with friendships. “It’s really great to see kids my age doing something like this,” she said.
28.What does “Teenager Therapy” usually do for its listeners
A.It connects teenage patients with doctors. B.It holds discussions about teenage topics.
C.It helps develop teens’ communication skills. D.It allows teens to make friends with big names.
29.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A.Why Gael brought together his four friends. B.Why Gael continued his podcast.
C.How the listeners were attracted. D.How the podcast show started.
30.What is a reason for the quick success of “Teenager Therapy”
A.It is made for teens by teens. B.Its hosts are good at marketing.
C.Its programs are all carefully planned. D.It won support from “Couples Therapy”.
31.What did Gabay think of “Teenager Therapy”
A.It needed to make improvements. B.It would train more kids like her.
C.It was an important part of her life. D.It should pay more attention to friendships.

Elements of Latin have made their way into many Western countries. Data varies, but as much as 70% of words in English have a Latin or Greek root.
By learning more about these roots and how they combine to create words you will have an advantage in understanding new words, even if you’ve never seen them before.
The great thing is that it’s not hard to learn these roots and recognise the patterns. You’re not learning the whole language with its grammar and difficult points. You just need to memorise some parts of the vocabulary that you often see in English.
So how do word roots work
Every word has a root. This part contains the key to a word’s meaning. Take the word “happy” for example. This word only contains the root, which means “full of joy”. There’s nothing more to the meaning of the word in this form.
Some words, however, have extra parts. We call these affixes, including prefixes, the part attached before the root, and suffixes, the part attached behind the root. Based on the additional meaning of the prefixes and suffixes, the meaning of the final word will be shaped to mean something new.
Take the word “autobiography” for example. The root is “bio”, meaning life. You may have noticed that many words with “bio” have something to do with life or living beings—biology, biography, and so on. When the suffixes “graph”, meaning to write, is added to it, it means a story about someone’s or something’s life. “Auto” means by oneself. Altogether, an “autobiography” is a story about a person’s life, written by the person himself or herself.
In a word, a better grasp of word roots can make you understand the English language better, and will help you with your vocabulary recognition and memory skills.
32. What’s needed to understand new words with roots
A. A good understanding of Latin or Greek. B. A full understanding of grammar.
C. The ability to recognize different parts of words. D. The ability to speak various Western languages.
33. What do we know about the root
A. It can’t form a word by itself. B. It is a necessary part of a word.
C. It is of greater importance than affixes. D. It has no impact on a word’s meaning.
34. What is the meaning of “biochemistry”
A. The science that is related to living things.
B. A person who does research about chemistry.
C. A person who does research about living things.
D. The study of chemical reactions related to living things.
35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the passage
A. Secret of Understanding New Words B. Latin’s Way into Western Languages
C. Amazing Power of Affixes D. Hints on Language Exams

Beijing, the capital of China, offers a rich cultural experience. To begin with, there are numerous renowned historical attractions worth visiting in Beijing, such as the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square. the Imperial Palace and so on. Besides, the Summer Palace featuring royal garden is also a good choice. When it comes to Beijing food, the famous Peking Roast Duck and varieties of Chinese moon cakes must stimulate your tastes. Last but not least, as the transportation in Beijing is very busy and complex, I advise you to travel by subway. It would be a wise choice to use the shared bicycles that are common in Beijing as well.

续写
With the dollar he bought a box, three brushes and some blacking(鞋油). He then went to the corner of the street, and said to every one whose boots did not look nice "Black your boots, sir, please " He was so polite that people soon began to notice him, and to let him black their boots. He brought all the money home little by little, hiding it in a pocket under the bed. Day after day, the pocket became heavier and heavier and Henry can’t help wondering what a surprise his mother would get.
He smiled and handed the money to his mother. Too shocked, she could hardly spoke a word. “Where did you get the money ” She was so angry, “I told you to be honest.” “Mom, I earned it myself.”Then Henry told his mother what he did after school the whole month. On hearing this, she was deeply touched and hugged Henry tightly, dropping a tear of joy. “Happy birthday!” the little girl came ,waving hands towards them happily. All of them burst into a laughter, which was such a warm scene!
