Friends are important in our lives, but we sometimes have to separate from our friends. “A Farewell (告别) Song” is about saying goodbye to a friend. It is a famous poem by Wang Wei, a great poet, who lived in Tang Dynasty. He is good at writing poems and drawing. When talking about Wang Wei, people often say there are pictures in his poems and there are poems in his pictures. His poems are full of beauty and imagination.
“No dust is raised on the road wet with morning rain”, “The willows by the hotel look so fresh and green”, a picture of silence and peace gets into our eyes. After a morning rain in spring, the road, the willows (柳树) and the hotel are completely different. The hotel looks green. The willows look fresh. Everything is nice, gentle and silent. Willow branches are considered as a typical symbol of farewell in China. In ancient times, Chinese people often used them as gifts when they said goodbye to their friends.
“I invite you to drink a cup of wine again” is the poet’s warm and real way of not wanting to say goodbye to his friend. Having another drink together is like a symbol of their goodbye. Lastly, “West of the sunny pass no more friends will be seen” shows the feeling of being alone and missing someone. It also shows his sincere love and care for his friend.
“A Farewell Song” creates a feeling of quiet sadness. It mixes beautiful pictures and human feelings to deeply express the common experience of saying goodbye.

I finally climbed into bed at 1: 20 in the morning. My friends had helped me celebrate my 31st birthday in the basement apartment, where I lived.
Earlier in the day I had prepared for the unlikely event of a flood. We are about a third of a mile from the banks of the Ahr River. It had been raining buckets that week and the government had sent out a flood warning, though not for where I was. Still, I’d placed sandbags on the floor outside my garden door and put electronics on tables. “Silly bro!” My friends laughed at me for doing that, but I thought, why take a chance
As I drifted off to sleep, I was awakened by the sound of rushing water, as if I were lying beside a waterfall. When I got off the bed, I was shocked that cold water was rising fast. In darkness, I grabbed my cellphone and turned on the flashlight. When I stepped out of the bedroom, I saw water shooting through the gaps of the door.
I began to panic. I knew I had to get out—fast! In bare feet, I started to make my way to the only escape: the door that led upstairs to the main floor. Finally I made it to the door and tried several times to-pull it open even just a little bit, but the rushing water shut it again. I looked around for anything I could use to keep it open. There in the corner was a coat rack (架子). I took it and, once again, opened the door, throwing the coat rack between the door and the frame (门框) to keep the door from shutting. Finally, I managed to make a gap just wide enough to squeeze (挤) through and make it into the hallway.
I leaped on to the stairs and ran outside. I stood there in the darkness, wet through. What was once a lovely street was now a waterscape, with floating ruins instead of people and cars. The river had drowned (淹没) the neighborhood!

A recent study suggests that when it comes to the benefits of reading, just doing it matters more than the content. Researchers have found that reading novels helps the brain development in understanding others and imagining the world. They also have found that people who spend a few hours per week reading books live longer than those who don’t read.
But how to build a habit of reading Like any habit, the trick is in figuring out what suits you. The hardest-part about reading is actually picking up a book. You have to sit down, pick up a book and start reading. “I always have a book next to wherever I put my phone,” My friend Jimmy once told me. “So if I want to check my phone, I physically can see the book there. Nine times out of ten. I end up reading the book instead of using my phone for nothing.”
Another challenge is time, and in that case, audio-books (有声书) can be a good choice. Audio-books are great for filling the mind while you’re on the way to work, washing dishes or working out at the gym.
If you’re still stuck on the way to developing a reading habit, the best way is to revisit your old favorite books to get your youthful reading pleasure. You should free yourself from the opinion that only important or educational books are worth reading. There’s no shame in rereading the books that made you fall in love with reading in the first place. Restarting the practice of reading is a little like picking up painting. It takes some work to get into the best state, but once you begin the results are beautiful and satisfying.
32.What’s the function of paragraph 1
A.To make a prediction B.To give an example.
C.To introduce a topic. D.To provide background information
33.What is the most difficult part in forming the reading habit
A.Getting reading skills. B.Finding a great book.
C.Having limited time. D.Getting reading started.
34.What is the advantage of audio-books according to the text
A.They are time saving. B.They provide more fun.
C.They help brain development. D.They offer more book choices.
35.Why is rereading old favourite books a good idea
A.It is of great convenience. B.It helps restart reading.
C.It helps you pick up painting. D.It can increase your patience.

For many high school students it seems that there is never enough time. There are several steps you can take to organize your time better.
Make a to-do list every day. It makes it easy to plan any of the activities or meetings you may have in addition to homework. Be sure to set priorities (优先事项). 36
Use spare time wisely. Do you have study hall (自习时间) Instead of wasting that time, read a book or do your homework. 37 If a friend asks you to do something and you have homework to do, realize which is more important and see your friend later.
Decide on the time that is good for you to do certain things. If you are more of a morning person, try getting up an hour earlier and do your schoolwork before school. Review your notes every day. 38 If you spend a few minutes at the end of every day going over what you learnt, it will mean less study time when it is time for the exam.
39 Studies have shown that getting enough rest helps your memory. When you are tired, everything seems more difficult. It is best to stay on a regular sleeping cycle as much as possible.
Tell your friends and family about your work timetable. Explain that you will be working at certain times and ask them not to disturb you. 40 You can call your friends later.
A.Set goals for yourself.
B.Get a good night’s sleep.
C.Do the most important tasks first.

One holiday, my cousins and I decided to play a trick on(捉弄) my grandma. We planned to do it —not because we didn't like her. She was the sweetest grandma a kid could ever have, and we really loved her. We decided to play the trick just wanting to have some fun. And at that time, to our mind, it was just a harmless little kids' trick(恶作剧).
Early in the evening of that holiday, we began our trick. We secretly walked up to her doorstep(门阶) with a can of red paint(一罐红漆). Grandma was hard of hearing. So we didn't have to worry about being very quiet. Every time we thought about how funny it would be to see Grandma try to pick up a gift that was just painted(画) on her doorstep, we couldn't stop laughing. It didn't take long to finish painting the gift two red roses. It wasn't very vivid(逼真的). But for us little farm kids and an old woman with poor eyesight, it would do.
As soon as we were satisfied with the painting, we knocked on the door and ran to hide behind bushes and trees to watch the fun. There was a lot of giggling(咯咯地笑) going on as we waited for Grandma to open the door. When she finally appeared, she stood in the doorway for a minute. She looked into the darkness, with her gray hair pulled back tightly into her usual style, wiping(擦) her hands on her usual white apron(围裙). And she said, “Who could be knocking at my door this hour of the night ” Hearing it, my stomach and cheeks ached from trying to hold back(抑制) the laughter. Then she looked down at her doorstep. Even from fifteen meters away, we could see the joy that shone in her eyes when she found the red gift at her feet.
“Oh, how wonderful!” she called out happily. “A holiday gift for Grandma! I thought I was going to be forgotten again this year!”

Dear Jim,
I'm delighted to hear that you'll be a senior student. Now, I'd like to share my study tips with you.
First, you'd better communicate with your teachers regularly. In this way, they may offer some great advice on both your study and life to you. Second, why not involve yourself in each class actively, listen to the teacher attentively and take notes carefully so that you can review later Third, it's a good idea to do your homework on time after school, which will help you practise what you have learned and make it fresh in your mind.
I sincerely hope my advice can be helpful to you and that you can enjoy your new school life.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
大作文:
Para. 1:
Grandma bent down to pick up her gift. This was the moment we had been waiting for. But somehow it wasn’t as much fun as we had expected. Confused, Grandma touched the fresh paint for a moment. She quickly became aware of our kids’ childish trick. Her delight at having been remembered by a sweetheart on Sweetheart’s Day was short-lived. She tried to smile to hide the embarrassment. Then, with as much dignity as she could gather, she turned and walked back into her house, absently wiping the red paint on her clean, white apron.
Para. 2:
At that moment, I regretted playing the trick and wanted to do something to make up for it. Soon an idea occurred to me. I would send a real gift to Grandma on another important holiday that was approaching—Thanksgiving Day. The day after we kids made the trick, I began to prepare for the real gift for Grandma. I saved my pocket money. Using it, I bought roses and snacks Grandma loved, and I put them into a beautiful box. When Thanksgiving Day finally came, I happily marched into Grandma’s house, with the box in my hands.
