Have you heard of the saying “Fall down seven times, stand up eight.” It means that no matter how difficult things get and no matter how many mistakes you have made, you still have the passion(热情) and energy to keep going. This is called perseverance and it can help you achieve lots of things.
Perseverance means keeping doing something over a long time, even when it gets difficult. It’s believed that you can reach a goal if you prepare to work for it. Practicing a skill on your bike over and over again or finishing a picture without throwing it away shows perseverance. Florence, 12, says, “It means never giving up, being determined and trying hard to push yourself. I go running with my mom three times a week, even when I don’t like it, because I want to be the fastest in my class.”
Studies show that feeling hopeful and working towards a goal can reduce stress and make you feel happier. Achieving something you've worked hard for, and overcoming challenges along the way, can also develop your confidence and make you feel braver to try new things. Angela Duckworth, an expert in thoughts and feelings, believes that it doesn't matter how talented, clever or rich you are, having grit is what really helps you succeed. She explains, “No matter how gifted you are, and no matter how easily you do well in your lessons, you should have perseverance.”
Duckworth believes perseverance is something anyone can learn, and the best way to do this is to have a growth mindset. This means believing that your brain can grow, and that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. So instead of thinking “I can't do this”, try thinking “I can't do this...yet”.

A new AI system can be used to make predictions(预测) on the crop yields(产量) up to six months before harvest. The tool counts flowers on fruit trees, which can help farmers improve crop yields and make better use of water and labor, and to plan harvests.
The system, developed by researchers at the National Robotarium in Edinburgh, can count flowers on fruit trees from photos taken by a smartphone. It works by knowing features, such as the edges and shapes of flowers. In Spain, studies on peach trees showed the system to be 90% correct in flower counts, which is much better than the 30% to 50% mistakes made by humans, according to researchers.
“In countries all across the world, farmers often depend on traditional methods to predict their yields, which can lead to big mistakes,” said Fernando Auat Cheein, a professor at the National Robotarium. “The flower-counting AI makes it possible to help farmers make wise decisions about crop management.”
“By paying more attention to the areas of the farm that are expected to produce the most fruit, farmers can make the most of resources(资源), reduce their environmental effect, and improve the harvest,” said Mr Cheein. “Our AI tool can be used with traditional farming practices, making it easier for growers to get help without completely changing their present methods.” The researchers will next compare the AI’s predictions with the actual peach harvest in the following months. If these turn out to be effective (有效的), they believe the method could be used for crops such as apples, pears, and cherries, helping fruit growers in Britain, Europe, and other areas.

This morning I went out to have breakfast in a small restaurant with a friend. It was sunny and the wind was gentle. Everything was lovely. But what wasn’t lovely was the lady who took our order. She spoke to my friend in a way that was unhappy, certainly not friendly, and sort of rude. Working in hotel myself, I noticed it.
When it came to my turn to get close and order my food, I thought to myself, “What can I do here to make her day nice, to touch her to make her smile ”. I was watching her and considering what to do.
Surely there must be something I could do. Then there it was and I knew，it was her voice. She had the most unbelievably well-spoken and clear voice. It was so good. It’s so clear, well-spoken and sounds so professional. That was it.
So after she took my order and gave the same unfriendly attitude. I told her , “I hope you don’t mind me saying, but_____▲______.” I told her how she honestly had one of those voices that would be perfect for announcements or even radio.
Her whole face lit up. She smiled (the first time I had seen her do so) and as I left and walked away, I noticed her whole attitude change.
