To encourage reading, a Chinese company started the book-sharing activity. They put over 10,000 books around the underground, in taxis and on planes in Beijing. Since the activity started, it has earned the support of many people, even some popular stars. The book-sharing activity, however, drew much more criticism (批评) than praise because some books were left untouched, some books were taken away by cleaners. People also complained that they couldn't reach the books—the underground was too crowded.

Some pointed out that some stars who supported the activity didn't seem to be reading much. They just wanted to draw others' attention. Isn't it embarrassing (令人尴尬的) that the activity is supported by stars who don't read a lot
“The book-sharing activity is not at all a bad thing. Over the years, everybody has been busy with work. They don't have time for reading,” said a famous Chinese writer, “However, just because Chinese people don't often read, it doesn't mean we should do nothing to encourage reading.”

Chongging's Ciqikou Ancient Town is a national 4A-level tourist attraction, drawing over 16 million visitors every year. With over 1,800 people living there and more than 50,000 visitors coming daily, it experiences great population pressure and safety challenges.
Cigikou has over 700 wooden buildings, which reflect China's long and rich history and culture. But these old houses made of wood can catch ire easily. So fire risks are a big challenge Cigikou faces.
Li Cheng, a member of the Party Committee and Organization Committee from Ciqikou Street was in an interview with Bridging News on April, 9th. When asked what was the most important part of their work in Ciqikou, he answered, “Fire prevention is always our top priority.”
To do this, they have developed an AI-powered fire automatic early warning system, which is a smart system with cameras and sensors (传感器) to discover fires quickly. They put up three tall “eyes in the sky, 209 cameras, and 944 sensors all over the place, making a 3D network to sense fires and leaving no blind spots.
If any of these sensors or cameras discover a fire, they will send a warning to the local control center and the small fire stations nearby, so that firefighters can rush to the fire scene to put out the fire. If the fire is too serious for the firefighters to control by themselves, the control center will make quick decisions to help the firefighters. This way, everyone can work together to solve the problem quickly.
Li Cheng said, “Thanks to this smart fire warning system, we have already received about 1,093 warnings and we can usually reach the fire scene within 6 minutes.”
“We believe that a combination of modern technology and human effort is the key to protecting Cigikou,” Li Cheng concluded. “We are confident that with these methods in place, we can not only protect the town's valuable cultural heritage (遗产) but also ensure the safety of all visitors who come to live here.”
57. Why is fire prevention a big challenge facing Ciqikou
A. Because there are so many people living there. B. Because there are so many tourists visiting it.
C. Because there aren't enough people working there. D. Because there are so many wooden buildings there.

Trees are everywhere around us.They provide us with many useful things.
Some Ways that Trees Help People
offer a place to rest take in CO and make O produce fruit
Box 1
Before trees become helpful, they change a lot as they grow. At 1 to 3 years old, young trees need to learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns (刺) to warn animals not to go near. Most young trees have large deep green leaves so that they can catch enough sunlight and change it into their food and energy. When trees are 4 years old, they begin to grow very rapidly and become strong enough to face challenges later in their life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit.
It is not until the tree is 20 to 25 years old that it becomes a real adult. The tree reaches its largest size. Not only does the adult tree give us natural beauty, but it also cleans up dirt and fights flood. If we give the adult tree proper care, it will continue to live healthily for many years.
●In deserts, trees need to hold on to water. The trees save water in their trunks. ●In the highlands, trees grow very close to protect them from the strong winds. ● In the rainforests, trees grow up to fifty meters tall to get more sunlight.
Box 2
Gradually trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time they still have their important place in nature. When a tree becomes hollow (空心的) or part of it becomes dead, it provides a home for small animals.

Hello, everyone. Welcome to today's English program. We often do something to protect our eyes, because they are important for us. However, our ears are also important and need to be protected.
Ears can do more than you think. Our ears keep working all the time, even when we are sleeping. Sometimes we may wake up suddenly at midnight. That's because our ears hear something, although we don't know what it is. Our ears also help us keep our balance, so we don't fall easily when walking or running.
However, many things, like loud noise, can cause hearing troubles. Here is some advice.
Dry your ears after swimming or taking a shower, and shaking your head a little bit can help you get the water out. Don't listen to loud music with headphones for a long time. And don't clean your ears with anything sharp. It's dangerous.
Let's take action to protect our ears. Thank you for listening.

According to a survey in the US, more than one in five teens have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Here are some suggestions.
Small changes can often make a big difference. You can start from this. You can avoid having a big meal close to bedtime. No phone in your bedroom at night. Moreover, turn off all the lights when you go to bed as bright light of any kind can trick your body into thinking it's too early in the day for sleep.
Don't sleep too much on weekends. If you can't, your sleep schedule may get out of control. For example, if you haven't been awake long enough in the day, you'll have trouble falling asleep at night, and then can't get up for school on Monday morning.
Try keeping a diary. Like adults, some teens may have a lot of worries in their minds: “Oh, no! I still have so much work to do. If I don't get enough sleep, I'll fail my test tomorrow!” If you are one of these teens, write down what you are worried about and what you plan to do tomorrow. It will help you a lot.

Calligraphy is the art form I like best. I couldn't enjoy its charm until last year.
