Yuan Longping
Yuan Longping was born in Beijing in 1930. He studied in Southwest Agricultural College from 1950 to 1953. He made a special study of rice in 1964 and in 1974, he developed a new kind of rice—Hybrid Rice. In the 1980s, Yuan travelled around the world and gave advice about growing rice. He won the World Food Prize in 2004. He also received the Medal of the Republic in 2019. In 2021, he died in Changsha at the age of 91.
He has made great contributions to the agriculture of the world. With his efforts, many countries grow more rice than before. He is called “the Father of Hybrid Rice”. He is a great scientist who is worthy of the praise of the world.
