Don’t you think that we have lost enough We have lost most of natural resources, and now we are going to lose animals!
Natural competition happens when species (物种) compete for food and living places. An example of an animal species affected by this is the dinosaur that die out.
We have caused animals to be in danger too. The pollution that we create destroys many animals’ living places like the sea turtle. Overhunting is also a huge threat. When people over hunt, they catch too many of an animal species, so either not many animals are left, or no animals are left at all. Examples of some overhunted animals are the Bali tiger. Cutting down trees is also very dangerous for animals. It leaves them with no place to live, such as many species in the Amazon Rainforest.
Many organizations such as WWF (World Wildlife Fund) are doing something to protect animals and the environment. They try to protect the living places of many endangered animals. They do studies on the species and they educate people. Zoos also help. They let many endangered species live in a healthy and safe environment. Sometimes zoos might even let an endangered animal go back into the wild to try to raise population numbers again.
Not only the big organizations but also you can help. You can give away money or you can volunteer, or you can do the simplest thing of all— CARE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT!

These days, a growing number of robots are invented to meet
different needs and challenges, from doing difficult tasks in factories to providing support at home or school.
② Have you imagined a robot that can dance with you Some educational robots can do that and they offer help in learning and problem-solving. In classrooms, these robots encourage students and bring them fun. At home, they can be the helpers for the students to improve creativity. For example, a NAO robot is a human-like robot with a cute face and two feet. It's about two-feet tall and can talk, move, and even dance. It helps students learn languages and programming.
③ Some companion (陪伴) robots are able to help your grandparents live more happily. Among them, the robot named The Five should be one of the most excellent companion robots. It was made known to the public for the first time on September 24th, 2024. Different from other robots, The Five has got four legs with wheeled feet. Although its face looks small and strange, its powerful fingers enable it to lift an adult weighing 65 kg. It can help the elderly with many tasks including getting up, walking and carrying heavy objects. Although it hasn’t been widely used yet, it has already been tested successfully in a nursing home. There is no doubt that The Five can bring much convenience(便利) to our life.
④ However, there is still something robots can’t do. For example, they don’t have human feelings or creativity. Unable to think independently, they can only follow programmed instructions. Also, they are usually expensive to produce.

When I was organizing my clothes, I accidentally found a set of Hanfu I only wore once. Since a Chinese friend gave me a set of ancient-style hair accessories (配饰), I matched a whole
set of Hanfu. Then, ancient-style articles appeared in my clothes one after another. When I saw them again, I thought of a sentence: I may have been caught by the “birdcage effect (鸟笼效应)!”
“Birdcage effect(BCE)” is one of the top ten psychological (心理的) problems that human beings cannot easily deal with. BCE means that when you get something one day, you will
probably prepare more things to match in. There is a story behind it. One day, James, a psychologist, joked with his friend Carlson and predicted that Carlson would surely raise a bird. At first, Carlson didn’t care. When James gave Carlson a birdcage on his birthday, friends who visited Carlson’s house believed that he had raised birds. During that process, Carison kept explaining. In the end he really bought a bird. Like Carlson, many people have been or are being caught in the BCE.
My friend Tiany said she wanted to buy a good pen to match a pretty notebook her sister gave her. I joked that she must have been caught in the BCE. But my friend said with a smile: “Why not use the ‘birdcage effect’ instead When I have a beautiful notebook I will want to buy a pen that is smooth and easy to write, and next I will want to buy a book I like, and then start to take notes.”
For the first time, I heard that the BCE could be used in reverse. However, this reminded (提醒) me of my middle school days, and I seemed to have used the BCE. One day, I bought a magazine and saw the call for writings published in the magazine, so I started writing. After that, I bought a beautiful notebook to record my feelings. More and more magazines appeared in my study, and my interest for writing increased.
How can we stop being caught in the BCE in many things and even use in Various “birdcages” unavoidably (不可避免地) appear in life, but we can divide them. If it is not in line with the actual situation, it is a “negative (消极的) birdcage”, so we must learn to stop losses in time. If it is a “positive (积极的) birdcage” that drives us to develop upward, we can clear our goals up and encourage ourselves to move towards our goals. At this time, we will find that the BCE is actually not so terrible!
57.Why does the writer talk about HanFu in Paragraph 1
A. To describe her life style. B. To explain the beginning of BCE.
C. To introduce Chinese culture. D. To show an example of the BCE.
58.The words “in reverse” in Paragraph 4 are closet in meaning to __________.
A. easily and smoothly B. in a creative way
C. in the other way round D. forward and backward
59. What can we learn from the passage
A. The term BCE came from Carlson’s story.
B. James used the BCE to record his feelings.
C. Tinny was caught in the BCE, so she bought a good pen.
D. The writer bought book because he was caught in the BCE
60. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A. The Birdcage Effect: Why Is It So Terrible
B. The Birdcage Effect: Why Are We Caught in It
C. The Birdcage Effect: How to Avoid It in Your Life
D. The Birdcage Effect: How to Use It to Your Advantage

九、书面表达(共20分)
Dear friends.
Wild animals play an important part on our planet earth. But they are facing many problems.
I am writing to call on everyone to do something for them.
I like tigers best, They are big and strong, They have bright eyes and orange fur with dark
stripes. Tigers can run very fast but only for a short while. They are good at swimming and
climbing, They like to live alone.
However, tigers are in great danger now, They are losing more and more living areas. What’s
worse, hunters catch tigers for their fur, bones and other parts of the body. We should take action
right away, We can make laws to stop people from hunting them. We shouldn’t buy any fur coats
any more. Moreover, we can build more nature reserves to provide enough food and cover for
them.
I think everybody should act to protect wild animals, Let’s act now!
Students’ Union.
