THIS STREET IS OPEN FOR PLAY
Concerned about outdoor play in crowded cities Start a play street — a community event where neighbors close their road to traffic, creating a safe space for children to play. This event allows kids and adults to explore, create and socialize, which, undoubtedly, will bring the bonds between neighbors to a new height.
Compared to structured plays with strict rules and fixed procedures, a play street allows children to lead, establish rules and get involved in an open-ended activity without specific instructions, methods or goals.
Getting Started:
1. Host a meeting to discuss benefits and encourage involvement. Choose an event date and assign tasks to the neighbors.
2. Reach out to city councils (市委会) for necessary permits to close the road. Ignoring this will lead to the cancellation of the whole plan.
3. Use posters, flyers, and social media to spread the word. Using these promotion means to inform residents of the date, time and activities planned for the play street.
4. Set up barriers for safety, provide equipment and encourage neighbors’ participation.
What to Expect:
·Game Areas: A variety of play equipment tailored for kids, such as jump ropes, balls, chalk for drawing, hula hoops and other outdoor games.
·Swapping Corner: A place where moms can bring unwanted items such as kitchenware, gardening tools or other household goods to exchange with each other.
·Arts and Crafts Seating: Arts and crafts seating with materials like paper, markers, crayons, paints and brushes. Children are encouraged to get creative and express themselves through art.
·Snack and Refreshment Station: Light refreshments like water, juice, fruit and healthy snacks to keep mixed-age participants energized. A potluck to share homemade treats and recipes.
21. What is the purpose of “a play street”
A. To prevent city traffic jams. B. To strengthen community bonds.
C. To explore kids’ artistic potential. D. To involve children in structured plays.
22. What is a must to hold the event
A. Raising funds from the public. B. Posting the safety regulations.
C. Asking for authorities’ approval. D. Announcing equipment instructions.
23. Which activity is intended for both kids and adults
A. Game Areas. B. Arts and Crafts Seating.
C. Swapping Corner. D. Snack and Refreshment Station.

Life Cycles
About 15 years ago, Andrew McLindon, whose favorite hobby is riding, was on his bike in Austin, Texas, when he thought about a friend’s son. The boy had never known the joy of biking because he suffered from the balance disturbances. When McLindon got home, he bought a three-wheel recumbent (可斜躺的) bike with a seat belt, perfect for a child with balance issues. Then the boy got the chance to seize the freedom coming with simply riding a bike and began interacting with friends. But there was more, as McLindon learned from his friend’s reaction after performing this small act of kindness. “I’ll never forget the smile on his face,” McLindon said.
The smile launched the McLindon Family Foundation. Funded by donations, the foundation finds disabled children who can benefit from owning adaptive bikes, and helps adapt each bike to the particular needs of the children.
When the foundation was just started, people thought a bike was not an urgent need for children with medical conditions. The feedback from the families, however, told the foundation that it was so much more. It strengthens muscles. It builds confidence. It is the joy and pride of owning a bike. And, most importantly, it’s inclusion. To the families and the children, the bike has changed their lives. Once children are fitted for their bikes and are able to ride around with families and friends, the real results come to light. The ability to move allows these children to truly become part of the group—that is priceless at any age.
Since the start of the foundation, they have helped to provide 450 bikes for happy children. These children and their families are not just one-time clients. They are involved. “I am part of the project because every day my family is blessed with the wonderful gift that is the fruit of this project. It is really incredible,” a mother said. “I could go on forever about all the things that this project has given back to me,” said McLindon. “It absolutely brings me the greatest happiness.”
24. What mainly motivated McLindon to set up his foundation
A. His pursuit of freedom. B. His favor to bike riding.
C. The suffering of his friend’s son. D. The response from his friend.
25. With the help of the foundation, the disabled children ______.
A. are funded to get good medical care B. are allowed to pay less for their bikes
C. can move around like normal children D. can make changes to their special bikes
26. According to the passage, the most important feature of the foundation is its ______.
A. number of clients of all ages B. inclusion of the whole family
C. interaction with disabled children D. freedom from the road condition
27. What can we learn from McLindon’s story
A. Giving is receiving. B. Nothing is impossible.
C. Practice makes perfect. D. Well begun is half done.
C
Artificial intelligence-powered medical treatment options are on the rise and have the potential to improve diagnostic (诊断的) accuracy, but a new study led by University of Arizona Health Sciences researchers found that about 52% of participants would choose a human doctor rather than AI for diagnosis and treatment.
“While many patients appear resistant to the use of AI, accuracy of information, encouragement and a listening patient experience may help increase acceptance,” Marvin Slepian, who led the research, said. “To ensure that the benefits of AI are secured in clinical practice, future research on best methods of physician incorporation and patient decision making is required.”
In this study, participants were placed into settings as mock (模拟的) patients and asked whether and under what circumstances they would prefer to have an AI system or a physical doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
In the first phase, researchers conducted structured interviews with actual patients, testing their reactions to current and future AI technologies. In the second phase, researchers surveyed 2,472 participants across diverse ethnic, racial and socioeconomic (社会经济学的) groups using a blinded, randomized survey.
Overall, participants were almost evenly split (分开), with more than 52% choosing human doctors as a preference and about 47% choosing an AI diagnostic method. If study participants were informed that their primary care physician felt AI was superior, the acceptance of AI by study participants on re-questioning increased. This signaled the significance of the human physician in guiding a patient’s decision.
Disease severity did not affect participants’ trust in pared to white participants, black participants selected AI less often and Native Americans selected it more often. Older participants were less likely to choose AI, as were those who self-identified as politically conservative. These findings suggest that differing groups will need specific sensitivity and attention as to informing them about the value and usefulness of AI to enhance diagnoses.
“I really feel this study has the importance for national reach. It will guide many future studies and clinical transitional decisions even now,” Slepian said. “The onus will be on physicians and others in health care to ensure that information in AI systems is accurate, and to continue to maintain and enhance the accuracy of AI systems as they play an increasing role in the future of health care.”
28. What can we infer about AI treatment from Paragraph 2
A. Further clinical research is required.
B. Its benefits remain to be confirmed.
C. It can ensure a good listening patient experience.
D Physician involvement will increase patients’ acceptance.
29. What may affect participants’ preference for AI treatment according to the research
A. Their sensitivity to AI’s value. B. The questions they were asked.
C. The access to the physicians. D. Their personal backgrounds.
30. What does the underlined word “onus” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Attempt. B. Responsibility. C. Impression. D. Opportunity.
31. Which would be the best title for this passage
A. The Trust in AI: A Split Among Patients
B. Bridging the Gap: Human Doctors and AI
C An Important Study: The Future of AI Systems
D. Improving Diagnostic Accuracy: The Role of AI
D
The Age of Information is exploding: if you tried to download all the data available today, you’d need more than 180 million years to do so. But you are wrong to assume that all information would stimulate a boost of innovation (创新) to match the output of data. Indeed, the last time we found ourselves in a period of significant innovation was over 120 years ago, called the Age of Insight (洞察力).
Innovations, big or small, start with a new idea. Often, these ideas occur as a moment of insight—the result of a novel connection in our brains made between existing and new information. Studies show insights involve quiet signals deep in the brain. Anything that helps us notice quiet signals can increase the chance of insights. However, it’s becoming more challenging to find those signals today, every moment filled with an endless supply of content.
Besides, we also want to increase the quality of them to sort through big new ideas and find the really valuable ones that can be hard to measure. Launched in 2015, the Eureka Scale (尤里卡量表) allows us to assess the strength of our insight experiences on a five-point scale, namely, intense emotions, motivation, memory advantage, aftershocks, and following ideas. The Scale combines these five variables into a single value to define the importance of a new idea and has broad applications for measuring and improving individual and organizational performance. Even it can be used to measure the impact of different kinds of work environments and learning approaches on participants’ growth. The level-5 insight, involving the richest emotion, motivation, and lasting impact, holds the greatest significance.
In order for organizations to benefit from another age of insight, it’s not enough to try to access more data or increase the number of insights we generate. Instead, it’s about making space for the biggest ideas to emerge from all the information. Using the Scale as a way to measure how important ideas are will enable better decision-making toward practical and competitive outcomes. If we’re to enter a new age of insight, we must make timely and necessary changes to design our environments for the best insight possible to surface.
32. According to the passage, which of the following cases can increase the chance of insights
A. By engaging in ongoing social media interactions.
B. By relying on technology to receive regular notices.
C. By stepping away from computers between meetings.
D. By participating in additional training and coaching sessions.
33. What can be inferred from the passage
A. The Eureka Scale controls the influence of our insights.
B. One with a level-5 insight has minimal emotional responses.
C. Both the quantity and quality of insights are essential to innovation.
D. A breakthrough has been made in innovation due to a wealth of information.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards the current environment for innovations
A. Uncertain. B. Optimistic. C. Unconcerned. D. Dissatisfied.
Once a niche (小众的) sport, rock climbing has become a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many. ____35____ However, with rock climbing’s rise in popularity, the amazing biodiversity sustained by cliff ecosystems is under pressure. To relieve this problem, there are numerous helpful acts you can do.
The presence of climbers at the cliff where binds are nesting can cause them to abandon their chicks to starvation. You should check if there are any bird nesting restrictions in the areas where you plan to climb. ____36____ And some organizations have an online database you can check.
Sometimes climbers also remove plants and soil when establishing a route that has not been climbed before so that it becomes more suitable for climbing. ____37____ Work with other route developers and conservationists to understand the potential impact of route development on the plants.
____38____ In the early days, climbers often collected data about the species and geography they encountered as part of an adventure. It is now much easier to contribute to science as a climber. Much of this comes down to the fact that each of us carries a tiny computer that can smoothly capture images, location, and sound and associate them with a timestamp-our smartphones!
Actually, in many places, climber representative bodies are taking great steps to ensure climbing is managed sustainably. This involves cooperating with the authorities of natural parks, and conservation organizations so that agreements can be reached that minimize the impact of climbing on the environment while keeping regulations to a minimum. These organizations often have limited funds with which to achieve these goals and tend to rely on the support of volunteers. ____39____
A. You can help by becoming a citizen scientist.
B. This information is usually available in climbing guidebooks.
C. This can wipe out the cliff ecosystem that was there previously.
D Why not get in touch with one that inspires you and ask what you can do
E. Keeping existing routes in good condition avoids the damage to vegetation.
F. These data can then be accessed by scientists to avoid environmental issues on cliffs.
G. The natural world offers an exciting adventure through beautiful environments filled with wildlife.
Your quest for success and happiness begins with right intentions. It culminates (达到顶点) when you reach your chosen goals. What sustains your effort in between is your determination. What carries you towards your goals is your determination. It means the firmness of purpose or intention.
If there is one gift that you can give to yourself in your life to be what you want to be, it is the power of determination. Without it you are a mere passive spectator in the drama of your life. If there is one quality that makes a difference between a winner and a loser or a leader and a follower, it is the power of determination. Without it, you may dream wild dreams, but you will not accomplish much in life. If you have determination, nothing can stop you and prevent you from following your course of action to achieve your goals or realize your dreams.
Obstacles may arise and obstruct your progress. They may delay your success, disturb you temporarily, and may even mislead you, but they cannot withstand the power of determination. It is the power that you generate within yourself to remain committed to your path and belief, and march towards your cherished goals. Before you take up any project or goal, you should know whether you have the determination to stick to your plans and reach your goals. Determination is your inner strength. Like the hardwood inside a tree, it gives you the power to stand tall and face the winds of turmoil.
With determination, you can crush the mountains of fear and doubts in you! You can find your way through the most difficult situations. Determination does not mean you will be insensitive to the reality of the situation. A determined person is also an adaptable and flexible person. He is not interested in being tough for toughness sake, but to overcome obstacles and reach his goals. Hence, he remains open-minded about possibilities and opportunities, but firm in his commitment (忠诚) and belief. Discipline and determination go together. If you have them, you will become unstoppable.
40. According to the passage, what is determination

41. What would happen if one does not have determination

D 25. C 26. B 27. A

D. Physician involvement will increase patients’ acceptance.
29. What may affect participants’ preference for AI treatment according to the research
A. Their sensitivity to AI’s value. B. The questions they were asked.
C. The access to the physicians. D. Their personal backgrounds.
30. What does the underlined word “onus” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Attempt. B. Responsibility. C. Impression. D. Opportunity.
31. Which would be the best title for this passage
A. The Trust in AI: A Split Among Patients
B. Bridging the Gap: Human Doctors and AI
C. An Important Study: The Future of AI Systems
D. Improving Diagnostic Accuracy: The Role of AI
D 29. D 30. B 31. A

根据第二段““While many patients appear resistant to the use of AI, accuracy of information, encouragement and a listening patient experience may help increase acceptance,” Marvin Slepian, who led the research, said. “To ensure that the benefits of AI are secured in clinical practice, future research on best methods of physician incorporation and patient decision making is required.”(“虽然许多患者似乎对使用人工智能有抵触情绪,但信息的准确性、鼓励和倾听的患者体验可能有助于提高接受度。” 该研究的负责人马文·斯皮安说,“为了确保人工智能的好处在临床实践中得到保障,未来需要对医生纳入和患者决策的最佳方法进行研究。”)”可知,医生的参与会增加患者对人工智能治疗的接受程度。故选D。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“In the second phase, researchers surveyed 2,472 participants across diverse ethnic, racial and socioeconomic (社会经济学的) groups using a blinded, randomized survey. (在第二阶段,研究人员采用盲法随机调查,调查了不同民族、种族和社会经济群体的2472名参与者。)”可知,在第二阶段,研究的参与者来自不同背景。再根据第六段“Disease severity did not affect participants’ trust in pared to white participants, black participants selected AI less often and Native Americans selected it more often. Older participants were less likely to choose AI, as were those who self-identified as politically conservative. These findings suggest that differing groups will need specific sensitivity and attention as to informing them about the value and usefulness of AI to enhance diagnoses.
根据最后一段“and to continue to maintain and enhance the accuracy of AI systems as they play an increasing role in the future of health care. (并继续保持和提高人工智能系统的准确性,因为它们将在未来的医疗保健中发挥越来越大的作用。)”可知,保持和提高人工智能系统的准确性的医生和其他医疗保健人员,所以医生和其他医疗保健人员有责任确保人工智能系统中的信息准确。所以划线词onus的意思是“责任”。故选B。
【31题详解】

C 33. C 34. D

根据第二段中“Studies show insights involve quiet signals deep in the brain. Anything that helps us notice quiet signals can increase the chance of insights. (研究表明,洞察力涉及大脑深处的静默信号。任何能帮助我们注意到安静信号的东西都能增加洞察的机会。)”可知,静默的信号是产生洞察力的一种方式,因此需要避免一些干扰,比如社交媒体,并且需要适当的间隔来让大脑有机会产生新的想法,即在会议间隙远离电脑可以增加获得洞察力的可能性。故选C。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中“Innovations, big or small, start with a new idea. Often, these ideas occur as a moment of insight—the result of a novel connection in our brains made between existing and new information. (创新,无论大小,都始于一个新的想法。通常,这些想法都是在灵光一现的瞬间产生的——这是我们大脑中在现有信息和新信息之间建立的一种新联系的结果。)”以及第三段中“Besides, we also want to increase the quality of them to sort through big new ideas and find the really valuable ones that can be hard to measure.
根据最后一段中“In order for organizations to benefit from another age of insight, it’s not enough to try to access more data or increase the number of insights we generate. Instead, it’s about making space for the biggest ideas to emerge from all the information. (为了让组织从另一个洞察时代中受益,仅仅尝试访问更多数据或增加我们产生的洞察数量是不够的。相反,它是为从所有信息中脱颖而出的最伟大的想法腾出空间。)”以及第二段中“However, it’s becoming more challenging to find those signals today, every moment filled with an endless supply of content. (然而,如今要找到这些信号变得越来越困难,因为每时每刻都充斥着无穷无尽的内容。)”以及最后一段中“If we’re to enter a new age of insight, we must make timely and necessary changes to design our environments for the best insight possible to surface.
Once a niche (小众) sport, rock climbing has become a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many.
D. Why not get in touch with one that inspires you and ask what you can do
E. Keeping existing routes in good condition avoids the damage to vegetation.
F. These data can then be accessed by scientists to avoid environmental issues on cliffs.
G. The natural world offers an exciting adventure through beautiful environments filled with wildlife.
G 36. B 37. C 38. A 39. D
根据前文“rock climbing has become a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many.( 攀岩已经成为许多人喜欢的主流娱乐活动。)”以及后文的“However, with rock climbing’s rise in popularity, the amazing biodiversity sustained by cliff ecosystems is under pressure. (然而,随着攀岩运动的兴起,悬崖生态系统所维持的惊人的生物多样性正面临压力。)”可知,空白处前后应该是转折关系,前文强调攀岩已经成为了主流娱乐活动,空白处后提到攀岩过程中会对岩壁的生态系统造成不良影响,而G 项“The natural world offers an exciting adventure through beautiful environments filled with wildlife.(通过充满野生动物的美丽环境,自然世界提供了令人兴奋的冒险。)”中的an exciting adventure与空白处前的a mainstream pleasure enjoyed by many 相呼应,且与下文提到的不良影响形成对比,符合语境。故选G。
根据前文“ You should check if there are any bird nesting restrictions in the areas where you plan to climb.(你应该检查一下在你计划攀登的地方是否有鸟类筑巢的限制。)”以及后文“And some organizations have an online database you can check.(一些组织有一个你可以查询的在线数据库。)”
根据前文“Sometimes climbers also remove plants and soil when establishing a route that has not been climbed before so that it becomes more suitable for climbing.( 有时攀登者在建立以前没有攀登过的路线时也会清除植物和土壤,使其更适合攀登。)”可知,此处提到攀岩者在开辟适宜攀岩的路线时,通常会除去路上的植物和土壤;后文提到“Work with other route developers and conservationists to understand the potential impact of route development on the plants.( 与其他路线开发商和环保人士合作,了解路线开发对植物的潜在影响。)” 因此,C项“This can wipe out the cliff ecosystem that was there previously.(这可能会摧毁之前存在的悬崖生态系统)”,符合语境。故选C。
根据后文“Much of this comes down to the fact that each of us carries a tiny computer that can smoothly capture images, location, and sound and associate them with a timestamp - our smartphones! (这在很大程度上归结于我们每个人都携带着一台微型电脑,它可以流畅地捕捉图像、位置和声音,并将它们与时间戳相关联——我们的智能手机!)”可知,本段主要谈论由于智能手机的普及,我们为科学做贡献变得更为便利。A项“You can help by becoming a citizen scientist.(你可以通过成为一名公民科学家来提供帮助。)” 故选A。
根据前文前提到“These organizations often have limited funds with which to achieve these goals and tend to rely on the support of volunteers. (这些组织实现这些目标的资金往往有限,往往依赖于志愿者的支持。)”可知,通过与自然保护组织合作,减少攀岩活动对环境的影响。但这些组织往往资金有限,依赖志愿者的支持。D项“Why not get in touch with one that inspires you and ask what you can do (为何不联系一个能够激励你的组织,问问你能做些什么 )”符合语境,D项中的one 指代前文的conservation organization,并鼓励读者为什么不联系一个激励自己的组织,成为其中的志愿者,为在攀岩运动中保护动植物提供帮助,该选项符合语境。
