The Happy Birthday song, the candles on a cake and the giving of gifts are
common in many places around the world—from the United States to Japan and from France to Australia. But some countries go above and beyond to celebrate their loved ones in different ways. Here are some different traditions for counting yourself one year older.
Instead of Happy Birthday, Mexicans(墨西哥人) prefer Little Mornings a song written in Europe in the 16th or 17th century. It is sometimes sung in the morning
to wake up the person whose birthday it is. But mostly people sing it around the
cake when the candles are burning.
Birthday traditions change quite a bit among Chinese living in different places. There is one thing everyone can agree on, however:a bowl of“longevity(长寿) noodles”. Noodles are supposed to bring health and a long life, which is why special care should be taken not to break them while eating with chopsticks.
For many Indians, they often pay a visit to their family and friends on birthdays. Some also give money to those less lucky than themselves. A birthday is also a
time to wear new clothes and to enjoy one's favorite dishes, prepared by family members. Schoolchildren, for their part, will often bring sweets or candies to their classmates to share their happiness.
As for Filipinos(菲律宾人), a birthday isn't just a celebration of the day—it is a time to spend with family. Traditionally, any family member living within a day's
travel must be invited. And each guest should bring a
dish. In the celebration, it is important to have “longevity noodles”, a cake made from vegetables, and a party.
11. What can we learn n about Little Mornings

12. Why do Chinese have “longevity noodles”
A. To welcome their friends.
B. To share their happiness.
C. To enjoy their favorite dishes.
D. To wish for health and a long life.

A. Clothes. B. Sweets.
C. Dishes. D. Money.
14. What does a birthday mean to Filipinos
A. It is a time to spend with family.
B. I t is a chance to wear new clothes.
C. It is a celebration of a special food.
D. It is a day to make cakes with friends.
15. What is the main idea of this passage
A. The Happy Birthday song is common.

A group of scientists set out to estimate(估计) the number of ants on Earth. According to their research, there are about 2. 5 million ants for very human on the planet. Then the scientists held 489 studies of ant populations.
The studies covered all kinds of habitats including cities, deserts and forests. The researchers find that most ants live in tropical(热带的)areas and that they
are more commonly found in forests and dry areas than in human-made habitats, In addition, the scientists find that the population of ants is more than the number of all the world's wild birds and animals together.
The researchers say this number is a low estimate. This is because
they did not have much information on how many ants live underground.Besides, there were not many trusted studies about how many ants live in certain parts of the world, like Africa.
Ants play very important roles in the environment. They help to spread seeds, help water reach plant roots, and are a kind of food for many living things. Patrick, who did this new estimate, said “I am sure the whole nature would simply break down without ants.”
For checking their populations, it is useful to estimate how many ants there are. Then the scientists can see if they are becoming less because of harmful changes in the environment. Worldwide, the number of insects, a group that includes ants, is becoming less. However, it is not clear if the number of ants is becoming less as well.
16. What does the underlined word“habitats” mean in Paragraph 2
A. Natural homes of ants.
B. Living areas of people.
C. Good conditions for ants.
D. Working places for people.
17. What causes the number of ants to be a low estimate
A. There aren't many ants in forests.
B. There are too many ants in Africa.
C. The studies are mainly held in the cities.
D. The studies aren't sure about ants underground.
18. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about
A. Fewer living things see ants as food.
B. Ants are of great importance to nature.
C. Most ants live in human-made habitats.
D. The whole nature will break down with ants.
19. Why do the scientists estimate the number of ants
A. To see if ants are becoming less.
B. To check the number of wild birds.
C. To research the population of humans.
D. To study if animals' conditions are better.
20. What's the best title for this passage
A. Finding the Change of Ants
B. Studying the Life of Ants
C. Researching the Number of Ants
D. Rebuilding the Home of Ants

第三部分 写 (满分35分)
第一节:信息摘录(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,然后在文后思维导图内完成内容摘要,每空不超过3个词
70% of the earth's surface is covered by water. However, only 3% of the water is fit for human use, and the rest is frozen or salty. According to a report by WWF, water shortage(短缺) influences nearly 27% of the world s population.
Many reasons cause water shortage. The first is climate(气候)change. The heat caused by climate change leads to water drying out. The next is water pollution, which makes the limited water unsafe for using. What's more, the growing population makes the situation worse. In the last50 years, the human population has more than doubled, and today 41% of world's population is badly in need of water.
So, what are the results of water shortage Firstly, people lack enough water to drink, which does harm to their lives and health.Besides, water shortage brings about hunger. Plants can not grow when there is not enough water. As a result, there is less food for people.
Therefore, it's time to take action. Here are three way s for us to save water in daily life. First, take shorter showers. Save a minute or two of your shower time. Millions of people doing even the little things makes a difference. Second, check your taps(水龙头). If you forget to turn off a tap, all those wasted drops add up—sometimes 5 300 litres of water a year. Third, reuse water. Collect water after washing vegetables and pour it on your plants.
