However, if you can find out the main body of the sentence, it will be much easier for you to understand the whole sentence. Now let’s try some sentences.1. The odds are that you’ve never been a candidate for a particular job before, but my advice will help you gain the upper hand as you set off and step into the world of employment. (选必四P39)1. The main body of the sentence is “The odds are that…but my advice will help you gain the upper hand…” with “but” connecting two simple sentences, with “that” leading predicative clause, with “as” guiding an adverbial clause.2. An interview is a conversation between an employer and a potential employee, which allows the interviewer to assess the job applicant to see if he or she is suitable for the position. (选必四P39)2. The main body of the sentence is “An interview is a conversation” with “between an employer and a potential employee” modifying conversation. The relative pronoun “which” guides an attributive clause modifying “conversation”.
