After college graduation, I became an editor of our city evening paper and was promoted to the deputy (副的) editor of the paper five years later.
One day, as I parked my car and walked towards the office, I noticed two boys who appeared to be around eight years old, selling popcorn on the street corner. Curious, I approached them and requested half a kilogram of popcorn. They prepared it for me within five minutes.
“How much is it ” I asked.
“It’s 30 rupees, sir,” they replied.
I then asked their names, and they answered, “Sahib, Asib.”
I asked Sahib why they weren’t in school and were selling popcorn instead. Sahib explained that they were doing it to earn money for their schooling. However, Asib quickly interjected (插话), saying they had no money left after covering food and medicine, not to mention schooling fees.
“Medicine for what You guys are looking well,” I said.
Asib replied, “Our mother has a kidney (肾) disease, so we need money to purchase medicine for her treatment.”
When I asked about their father, Sahib sadly shared that he had passed away from cancer four years before, leaving their mother to support them with two jobs. I was deeply moved and struggled to find words. Before leaving, I asked whether they would be there the next day, intending to buy some then. They assured me they would come.
“Take care, boys,” I said as I left.
The next day, I returned to the spot where I had met Sahib and Asib the day before, but they were not selling popcorn as usual, standing there with a single bag of popcorn. I asked why and they explained that they had been waiting for me but had to leave because their mother’s health had got worse.
I could see in their eyes that their hearts broke because of sadness, so I decided to do something to help the two honest and dutiful kids.

八、写作示范
第一篇
Paragraph 1:
I told them that they were too young to bear the heavy burden alone. Gently squeezing their hands, I said, “Kids, you’re not alone anymore. I’ll help you.” Their eyes widened in disbelief yet glimmered with hope. We hurried to their shabby home. The sight of their frail mother on the bed, gasping for breath, pierced my heart. Without hesitation, I dialed the numbers of several charities I’d worked with. Explaining the urgent situation, I pleaded for immediate assistance. Before long, a local food bank promised to deliver groceries, and a medical team volunteered to visit their mother.
Paragraph 2:
At my office, I penned down this touching story and made the decision to share it with the public. I crafted each word carefully, painting a vivid picture of the boys’ plight and their unwavering spirit. The next day, the article hit the front page. Almost instantly, the phone rang off the hook. People from all walks of life called to offer help. A retired teacher offered free tutoring, and a group of businessmen pooled funds for the family’s long-term needs. Watching the boys’ faces light up as life gradually improved, I realized that in helping them, I’d found a deeper meaning of life – the beauty of giving.
第二篇
Paragraph 1:
I told them that they were too young to bear the heavy burden alone. Looking straight into their eyes, I whispered, “Boys, this is too much for you. Let me step in.” They nodded, tears welling up. We rushed to their home, a cramped and dilapidated place. Their mother lay there, too weak to even sit up. I immediately reached out to my network. A nearby hospital agreed to provide free medical treatment, and a charity organization pledged to cover part of their school expenses. The boys clung to me, their sobs subsiding as they felt a glimmer of hope.
Paragraph 2:
At my office, I penned down this touching story and made the decision to share it with the public. I poured my heart into the article, highlighting the boys’ innocence and the family’s struggle. Once published, it was like a stone thrown into a pond, causing ripples of kindness. Volunteers flocked to help with household chores, and schools offered scholarships. As the days passed, seeing the boys return to school and their mother’s health stabilize, I understood that kindness was contagious. And in spreading it, we could create a world filled with love and care.
参考答案
Paragraph 1
I told them that they were too young to bear the heavy burden alone. With these words, I took out 2,000 rupees and handed the money to them. They were too shocked to say a word. I told them I would try my best to help them go back to school and help their mother cure her disease. Hearing these words, the boys were so touched that tears poured out of their eyes. They cried, “Thank you very much …” Having a sudden idea, I left them immediately and returned to my office.
Paragraph 2
At my office, I penned down this touching story and made the decision to share it with the public. I appealed to fellow citizens to extend their support, emphasizing that with everyone’s contribution of a little love, the kids would not fear to lose their mother or face homelessness. They shouldn’t shoulder so much burden at such an early age and great efforts should be made to help them go back to school. The response to my appeal was overwhelming. With the collective efforts of the community, the mother’s condition got better and better, and the children also saw their beloved teachers and classmates again. It was the joint love that turned a story of hardship into a story of hope.
