Confucius(孔子), a famous teacher, was a politician and philosopher (哲学家) who lived in “Spring and Autumn Period”. During his lifetime, he planted the seeds for China’s complete change by teaching thousands of people. Today, he is thought to be one of the world’s greatest teachers.
Confucius grew up in a poor family. As he grew up, Confucius worked to help his mother earn money. When he wasn’t working, he would read. His favorite thing to do was learn. His mother saw this and did her best to help him learn. One day, rich families noticed how intelligent he was and offered him jobs counting their money and keeping track of their crops.
Confucius did this until he was 30 years old, but he always wanted to do more.
He didn’t like the way rulers treated their people. He wanted to find a way to help people who were less fortunate than he was. Later, he founded the philosophy “Confucianism”. Confucianism states that by educating yourself, loving your family, and respecting tradition you could become a better person. Confucius believed a person could achieve these things by practicing self-discipline (自律). For the rest of his life, Confucius traveled and taught the people of China about self-discipline and the importance of education. He even opened China’s first school that taught both the poor and the wealthy as equals. Although he became very famous among China’s lower classes, the rulers of China never accepted his teachings. Eventually, his philosophy of self-discipline helped China unite under one ruler and finally find peace. Today, Confucius is celebrated all over the world for his philosophy of education, equality, and peace over war, money, and injustice.

Keegan Cook’s experience reads like a story—a story of a California kid whose adventures in volleyball shaped his life from college to career (职业生涯).
Like many good stories, the UW (University of Washington) Volleyball Head Coach’s story begins with a hero: his big sister, Meg. As a kid, he was taken to all her volleyball tournaments (联赛). Then he’d take a ball and play by himself in a corner of the gym. He wanted to do what she’d done.
After playing volleyball in high school, he followed Meg to St. Mary’s College of California, where he volunteered to coach almost the moment he arrived.
“For four years while the rest of my classmates were going to music festivals or traveling abroad, I was spending all my free time coaching,” Keegan explains. “When you’re 18 years old and coaching 17-year-olds, you have to be professional and mature (专业与成熟). You have to take your job very seriously. I was very careful about those things early on.”
Keegan graduated from St. Mary’s on a Friday in 2007 and, three days later, started his first professional job as a full-time assistant coach at this school.
Though he loved St. Mary’s, Keegan was intrigued by the values of all the UW coaches and players he met while playing Washington. When an assistant coaching opportunity opened at the UW in 2013, he won the role.
With a degree in math, Keegan puts his analytical (分析的) skills to use as a head coach who makes objective (客观的) decisions about practice schedules. “I believe in the influence of little behaviors repeated day after day so they become a powerful force in your life.” It’s a way of thinking that has led to four Pac-12 championships; eight trips to the NCAA Tournament; and many excellent players and proud UW graduates since Keegan joined UW Volleyball.
28. What influenced Keegan Cook’s interest in volleyball coaching
A. His sister’s playing in volleyball tournaments.
B. His volunteer experience in high school.
C. His college friends’ encouragement.
D. His childhood adventures.
29. What did Keegan Cook do during his free time in college
A. He attended music festivals.
B. He watched volleyball matches at the UW.
C. He asked for suggestions from his coach.
D. He volunteered to guide volleyball players.
30. What do the underlined words “intrigued by” in paragraph 6 mean
A. Worried about. B. Surprised at. C. Interested in. D. Thankful for.
31. What is the best title for the text
A. UW’s long road to success
B. Playing volleyball is easier than you think
C. The story of Keegan Cook’s volleyball career
D. It’s great that every player has the opportunity

Urban expansion(城市扩张)has greatly changed the habitats of many animals. Forests are cut down to build houses, rivers are changed to provide water for big cities, and pollution is now a serious problem for many ecosystems(生态系统). These actions force animals to get used to city life, often causing conflicts when they enter areas where people live to find food or a place to stay.
Environmentalists say that it’s important to create special places called wildlife reserves. These reserves protect animals that are in danger and help keep different kinds of life in nature. Wildlife reserves are like safe homes where animals and plants can live and grow without being bothered by people. Studies show that animals in these protected areas survive better, which helps keep balance in nature. Every animal, from small insects to large animals, plays an important role in keeping the ecosystem healthy.
In addition to reserves, people are also working on setting up " wildlife corridors (走廊)." These are protected paths between places animals live in, which allow animals to migrate safely. Without such corridors, animal groups that live alone in one place lose genetic diversity(基因多样性), which makes them more likely to die out. For example, large predators like tigers and wolves need big space to hunt and survive. Corridors offer these animals freedom to move around without entering human spaces.
Protecting biodiversity(生物多样性)not only benefits animals but also supports human life. Healthy ecosystems control water flow, clean the air, and stops the climate change, all of which are extremely important for human survival. Therefore, protection efforts not only focus on saving different species, but also making sure our environment stays healthy for everyone.
32. What is one main result of urban expansion on wildlife
A. Fewer people in cities B. Damage to animal habitats
C. Fewer human activities D. More places for animals to live
33. What is the purpose of wildlife reserves
A. To attract more tourists
B. To create jobs for local people
C. To protect animals from human bothering them
D. To allow humans to connect with animal
34. What is the author’s attitude toward creating wildlife reserves and corridors
A. Supportive B. Concerned C. Indifferent D. Questioning
35. What is the main idea of the passage
A. Animals don’t need migration paths as they can get used to cities.
B. Cities should replace habitats to create more space for humans.
C. Urban growth has little effect on animals as they can find new homes.
D. Wildlife reserves and corridors help protect animals and ecosystems.

Every time I think of running around in full view of people, my heart can't help but feel nervous. We found helplessness in the teacher's eyes. She said encouraging words, trying to raise students' sense of honor and the courage to challenge ourselves. However, students still chose to remain silent.
Just as the teacher was about to give up the event, a familiar and strong voice came: " Tim and I sign up for the long race!" I looked up sharply and fixed my eyes on my best friend Todd. I seemed to hear my own heartbeat racing. Me Long run How is this possible I had never been in a running race and I knew I couldn’t hold up my nervousness." I know you can run like a rabbit." In the days that followed, Todd became our “coach”. He carefully made a training plan. We practised the skills a lot, sweated together on the playground and ran faster and faster. 六,读后续写(满分25分)
One possible answer
The big day came. Todd and I were on the starting line. Todd gave me an encouraging look and I nodded firmly. As the gun fired, the athletes ran forward like arrows. Todd ran ahead quickly, and I followed closely behind. Suddenly I heard the shouts and cheers from the crowd around me, and I started to feel nervous and uneasy. As a result, I became a little bit far away from Todd. I quickly calmed down myself, reminding myself to keep my pace steady as Todd told me, and fixed my eyes on Todd. Todd’s warm encouragement came into my mind, and I regained my confidence. I sped my pace gradually. Round and round, I was much closer to Todd. With sweat and effort, we crossed the finish line together, and we both won.
Todd and I together went onto the winner’s stage. We proudly stood in front of the big crowd, filled with pride in our hearts. Our teachers and classmates warmly applauded and cheered for us. I smiled and waved to them confidently. We gained scores and won honour for our school. I began to realize that under everyone's attention, with effort to our goal, the feeling also can be so beautiful. Just at that very moment, turning around, I hugged Todd tightly, with tears in my eyes, saying “Thank you very much for your company and encouragement. You are just like my sunshine.” Todd is a true friend who gave me the strength and sense of accomplishment/fulfillment to overcome challenges.
