Music helps us exercise, but why does it have this effect Scientists say there are some 36 .
The first is simple: music distracts (使......分心) us. When we listen to a song we like, our brain
pays attention to the music. 37 we exercise for 20 minutes, for example, our body may be tired. But because of the music, we may not feel this right away. 38 , we will exercise a little longer.
Music can also motivate (激励) us. When we hear dance music, for example, we 39 start to move to the beat (节拍). An upbeat (欢快的) song also makes us feel happier. This gives us energy and helps us 40 longer.
However, according to a new study by scientist Tom Fritz, this is only part of the explanation. In the study, at first, Fritz divided 61 people into several groups. 41 they all exercised twice. The first time, each group worked out for six minutes 42 listening to music. The second time, they exercised for six minutes on special Jymmin machine. On these machines, each group made music as they moved. In the end, 53 of the 61 people said the 43 thing: they felt less tired when they exercised on the Jymmin machines.
How does Fritz explain this Fritz said that maybe people did better on the Jymmin machines because they had more control. People created the beat. 44 could make it go faster or slower. Also, each group was making music together and having fun. In the future, Fritz wants to 45 if Jymmin exercise can help with some illnesses. For example, it may even be a good way to treat depression. (抑郁)

Tails come in different shapes, sizes, and colors among different animals and have different uses. Let’s explore some most common uses for animals’ tails!
Some animals, such as cats and kangaroos, use their tails for balance. These animals need to use the weight of their tails to help them stay upright(直立的). They are especially useful when these animals run over bumpy(高低不平的)land or jump from place to place.
Many animals use their tails to protect themselves in dangerous situations. For example, some snakes’ tails can create a sound that helps them frighten(惊吓) other animals away. A gecko(壁虎) uses its tail in a different way. If another animal bites its tail, it will break the tail off and run away.
Tails can also be used by animals to help them move. Most fish use their tails to swim in the water. Monkeys use their tails for movement too. Besides their arms and feet, they also use their tails to swing(摆动) from tree to tree in the forest.
Some animals actually use their tails to keep warm in cold weather. Foxes and coyotes(郊狼)are two examples. On cold nights, these animals put their tails around their bodies, kind of like how humans use blankets(毯子).
Many animals use their tails for communication. Dogs swing their tails to tell us something about how they’re feeling. Beavers(河狸) hit their trails against the water, creating a loud warning sound for other beavers.
