Some libraries use unique architecture to encourage visitors to explore the book shelves and settle down with a new book,or use travelling libraries to bring books to hard-to-reach populations. No matter how they achieve it,these novel libraries are keeping the magic of reading alive.
Beach Library (Albena,Bulgaria)
Reading a book on the beach is a classic, and in Bulgaria, one library encourages tourists to do just that. The white,weather-resistant shelves lined up not far from the surf feature over 6,000 books in more than 15 languages,so every visitor can find the perfect beach read to enjoy while soaking up the sun’s rays.
Bishan Library (Singapore)
Built in 2006,this library with skylights and trellises(格架),standing out for its modern art,is meant to resemble a modern glass tree-house.Glass pods of varying colours stick out of the building randomly to create cozy yet airy corners for reading throughout the building.Children’s room on the basement level invites interaction while preventing noise from disturbing those concentrating in the lofty seats above.
The Camel Library Service (North Eastern Province,Kenya)
To fight low literacy rates in the desert of Kenya, the government created a travelling library composed of nine camels bringing books to villages. The library travels four days a week serving the region’s nomadic(游牧的) people.Currently the service focuses on children, but with more funding they plan to increase their reach both in distance and the titles they carry.
Macquarie University Library (Sydney,Australia)
A stunning combination of being both cutting-edge and sustainable, this building with a green roof was made from recycled materials and designed to look like an eucalyptus tree(桉树).It is also state of the art, using robot cranes to bring requested books to the front desk.

My family and I had set out on a day trip from Shillong to Cherrapunji. However, after we had been stuck in traffic for more than four hours, one of my sisters proposed going back to the city as a last attempt to save whatever remained of the day.A quick online search revealed other must-visit spots around Shillong. Most were familiar, but one caught our attention—Nartiang with its mysterious monoliths(巨石柱).The photo showed tall stones piled together in a strange formation, appealing to us to explore further despite the lack of details provided.
That is how I found myself standing in the shadow of the huge monoliths of Nartiang.Curious to uncover their history,I approached Maryo Symblai,a village elder I met later that day,who told me the story of the monoliths that has been orally passed down over generations. She said,“Back in the day,Nartiang didn’t have a bazaar(集市) and the nearest one was at Raliang. On one such bazaar,a giant named Mar Phalyngki was caught in heavy rain on his way back.He requested to borrow an umbrella from the Raliang chief’s youngest daughter, but she wanted to test his legendary strength instead.‘Why don’t you go to lift that huge stone in the bazaar and use it as an umbrella?’ she said dismissively.Emboldened by her challenge,he just did that, but before reaching Nartiang,he placed it in a forest when the rain had stopped.”
“There is a certain overlap of ancient story and memory in the case of the Nartiang monoliths. The locals’ account of how the place came to be is based on ancient stories or folk customs. But they also remember it because it served their ancestors as a weekly marketplace,a memorial, and a place for political gatherings. That is how oral history works. It mixes fact and fiction into collective memory,” said Dr Reeju Ray,a local writer.
Today, even though the traditional customs and more confirmed historical accounts offer some insight into the site, the mystery(奥秘) of the stone giants lasts.
24.Why did the author and his family come to visit the monoliths of Nartiang
A.It was in their original trip plan.
B.They had to choose it as an alternative.
C.It was the only remaining place to visit.
D.An elder villager gave them the suggestion.
25.What does the underlined word “Emboldened” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Threatened. B.Moved.
C.Stimulated. D.Frightened.
26.Why are Dr Reeju Ray’s words mentioned
A.To inform what the monoliths served as.
B.To illustrate how the mysterious story came into being.
C.To introduce the feature of Nartiang monoliths.
D.To deny the overlap of ancient story and memory.
27.What is the best title for the text
A.A Trip to the Monoliths
B.The Mystery of Shillong
C.The Formation of the Monoliths
D.A Disappointing Travel Experience

We all know fresh is best when it comes to food. However, most produce at the store went through weeks of travel and covered hundreds of miles before reaching the table. While farmer’s markets are a solid choice to reduce the journey,Babylon Micro-Farm(BMF) shortens it even more.
BMF is an indoor garden system. It can be set up for a family.Additionally,it could serve a larger audience such as a hospital, restaurant or school. The innovative design requires little effort to achieve a reliable weekly supply of fresh greens.
Specifically,it’s a farm that relies on new technology.By connecting through the Cloud,BMF is remotely monitored. Also, there is a convenient app that provides growing data in real time.Because the system is automated,it significantly reduces the amount of water needed to grow plants.Rather than watering rows of soil, the system provides just the right amount to each plant. After harvest, users simply replace the plants with a new pre-seeded pod(容器) to get the next growth cycle started.
Moreover, having a system in the same building where it’s eaten means zero emissions(排放) from transporting plants from soil to salad. In addition, there’s no need for pesticides and other chemicals that pollute traditional farms and the surrounding environment.
BMF employees live out sustainability in their everyday lives.About half of them walk or bike to work.Inside the office, they encourage recycling and waste reduction by limiting garbage cans and avoiding single-use plastic.“We are passionate about reducing waste, carbon and chemicals in our environment,” said a BMF employee.
28.What can be learned about BMF from paragraph 1
A.It guarantees the variety of food.
B.It requires day-to-day care.
C.It cuts the farm-to-table distance.
D.It relies on farmer’s markets.
29.What information does the convenient app offer
A.Real-time weather changes.
B.Current condition of the plants.
C.Chemical pollutants in the soil.
D.Availability of pre-seeded pods.
30.What can be concluded about BMF employees
A.They have a great passion for sports.
B.They are devoted to community service.
C.They are fond of sharing daily experiences.
D.They have a strong environmental awareness.
31.What does the text mainly talk about
A.BMF’s major strengths.
B.BMF’s general management.
C.BMF’s global influence.
D.BMF’s technical standards.

Is forgiveness against our human nature To answer our question,we need to ask a further question:What is the essence of our humanity For the sake of simplicity, people consider two distinctly different views of humanity. The first view involves dominance and power. In an early paper on the psychology of forgiveness,Droll (1984) made the interesting claim that humans’ essential nature is more aggressive than forgiving allows. Those who forgive are against their basic nature, much to their harm.In his opinion, forgivers are compromising their well-being as they offer mercy to others, who might then take advantage of them.
The second view involves the theme of cooperation, mutual respect, and even love as the basis of who we are as humans.Researchers find that to fully grow as human beings,we need both to receive love from and offer love to others.Without love, our connections with a wide range of individuals in our lives can fall apart.Even common sense strongly suggests that the will to power over others does not make for harmonious interactions. For example, how well has slavery worked as a mode of social harmony
From this second viewpoint of who we are as humans, forgiveness plays a key role in the biological and psychological integrity of both individuals and communities because one of the outcomes of forgiveness, shown through scientific studies,is the decreasing of hatred and the restoration of harmony.Forgiveness can break the cycle of anger. At least to the extent the people from whom you are estranged accept your love and forgiveness and are prepared to make the required adjustments.Forgiveness can heal relationships and reconnect people.
As an important note, when we take a classical philosophical perspective, that of Aristotle,we see the distinction between potentiality and actuality. We are not necessarily born with the capacity to forgive, but instead with the potential to learn about it and to grow in our ability to forgive. The actuality of forgiving, its actual appropriation in conflict situations, develops with practice.
32.What is Droll’s idea about forgiveness
A.People should offer mercy to others.
B.Aggressive people should learn to forgive.
C.Forgiveness depends on the nature of humanity.
D.People who forgive can have their own welfare affected.
33.What does the example in paragraph 2 illustrate
A.To forgive is to love.
B.To dominate is to harm.
C.To fight is to grow.
D.To give is to receive.
34.What is the writer’s attitude toward forgiveness
A.Favorable. B.Reserved.
C.Objective. D.Skeptical.
35.What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A.Forgiveness is in our nature.
B.Forgiveness grows with time.
C.It takes practice to forgive.
D.Actuality is based on potentiality.

“Find your passion!” When discussing future career options or selecting a major in college, your parents often say this. The very expression is meant to inspire. But is it good advice
“Finding” a passion implies that it already exists and is simply waiting to be discovered.Unfortunately, this idea is not what science tells us. 36
To study this, researchers use a framework of “fixed” and “growth” mindsets. They argue that encouraging people to “find” their passion may cause them to eventually believe that interests and passions are inborn and relatively unchangeable. 37 In contrast, people who view interests and passions as developed have a growth mindset of interest.
Researchers have revealed that a fixed mindset of interest can decrease creativity. If people believe they are limited to only a few inborn interests and,in consequence,do not explore other areas, they may miss seeing important connections across different domains. 38
Evidently, people can do a lot to embrace a growth mindset of interest.First, realise that your interests and passions aren’t pre-existing.Take an active role in developing your passions.Second, practise positive self-talk.When you lack interest in a new task, pay attention to your inner dialogue. 39 For example, change “I’m not interested in this” to “I’m not interested in this yet,but I know that interest can develop with time and engagement.”
40 But a growth mindset of interest will help you remain open and curious. The science tells us we should work toward loving what we do.We might become more creative and resilient as a result.
A.So can a growth mindset of interest be taught
B.Instead passions,like interests,are developed.
C.People who think this have a fixed mindset of interest.
D.Of course, not every activity will become a burning passion.
E.As such, seeing interests as fixed limits their creative potential.
F.Don’t expect that pursuing new interests will always be easy or exciting.
G.Replace self-critical thoughts with positive ones that encourage growth and learning.

She was the prettiest puppy we had ever seen, and the whole family immediately fell in love with her.We named her Onyx because of her black, shiny black coat. She spent her first vacation with us when she was only ten weeks old and had her first bath and swim in the St.Lawrence River. We had no clue that this amazing little ball of fur would end up being our hero.
As she grew older,Onyx became more and more involved in our family activities. On hot summer days,Onyx enjoyed floating on the river with us in her own rubber tube(橡皮圈).Amazingly standing on the top of the tube, she smiled while showing off her perfect balance.Resting her front legs and paws over the edge of the rubber tube, she kept her eyes shut as she floated until she’d had enough of the warm sun on her black coat.
One day,our eighteen-year-old daughter,Margie, announced she was going to swim across the bay.No one in the family was free to go swimming with her.The unwritten rules, regardless of swimming ability, was to have a companion in the water with you, especially when swimming the width of the bay.I was not a good swimmer,so I said to Margie,“Take Onyx with you.” Having heard her name,Onyx woke up from a nap and was ready for action.Margie signed the dog to follow her.Onyx ran to the water next to her. They entered the freezing river together and swam side by side across the bay.
I watched from the bank as they reached the sandbar(沙洲) on the far shore. They rested a few minutes before diving into the water for the return trip.I felt uneasy for some reason and continued to watch the pair swim side by side.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Suddenly I heard Margie calling out,“I have a cramp(抽筋) in the leg!”
Seeing the pair approaching the riverbank,I breathed a sigh of relief.

Text 10
W:It’s been around for more than 200 years, standing at the entrance of my village. The old tree is so big that it takes two people to hug it properly.
When I was a kid heading to school in town,I’d walk past it every day.Back then,I was too worried about staying fed and warm to think much of it—it was just a tree,as ordinary as any rock on the side of the road.
Then, after years of hard study, waiting for my college admission letter,I found myself staring at that tree, hoping for good news.Days passed when it felt like, somehow, this tree and I had built up this bond, this friendship. And guess what The letter came.
When I went to the city for college that September, walking past that tree hit me hard.I looked back, and through its branches,I could see my home,my family waving goodbye.
Fast forward to when I was 21,I used to work in a village. There were times I just felt the urge to see that tree and my family,so I’d walk those thirty kilometres of mountain roads.
And you know what As I got into writing, that tree found its way into my stories.I am successful. However, whenever I find myself stuck in my writing,I will go back to see it.It’s fortunate how a tree I once passed without a second thought has become such a big part of my life.

第一节 参考范文
Dear Jack,
I hope this letter finds you well.
These days I have been pondering whether it is a workable idea that we use AI for our initial speech draft.Much to my regret,I have to say no to your suggestion.
While it is convenient to use AI to draft our speech,we are likely to lose an opportunity to showcase our own critical thinking and writing skills. What’s more, with the draft made by AI,we will be subject to AI’s point of view and lose our own. Therefore, from my perspective,it might be more productive if we could draft the speech originally with our joint efforts. How about coming together to brainstorm key points and then allocate the writing tasks accordingly If you like, maybe we can use AI to polish our language! I am confident that our collaborative approach will yield an exceptional speech.
Hope you reconsider this and let’s be our own “writers”! Looking forward to your reply.
Best regards,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文
Suddenly I heard Margie calling out,“I have a cramp(抽筋) in the leg!” Seized with panic,Margie rubbed her leg hard to relax the muscle but in vain.Seeing her struggling in the water,Onyx immediately swam to the side of Margie and then put her head beneath the girl’s right arm.I yelled for help for fear that they might freeze in the chilly river. But much to my relief, with Margie tightly grabbing Onyx’s collar, our little furry friend began digging deep, slicing through the water with her paws and swimming fast towards the bank with every ounce of strength.
Seeing the pair approaching the riverbank,I breathed a sigh of relief. When they finally got to the shore,I reached out to help Margie, pulling her up onto the riverbank and wrapping her in a large towel.Exhausted but excited,Onyx gently licked Margie’s face to make sure she was OK.Everyone in the family was grateful for their safe return and Onyx was given an extra treat later in the afternoon for her quick and brave reaction. She became our hero that day and she never ceased to amaze us in the days that followed.
