A line of people are disappearing, one by one, into a hedgerow(灌木树篱) on a hillside near Aylesbury,
England. Hidden inside the thick hedgerow, under the spreading branches of a tree, is a spacious hole, with the shower head fixed to the tree's trunk.
As the benefits of spending time in green spaces are well-documented, people like TonyLangford see a
beneficial opportunity. Thus he created this“hedge shower”, so campers on his farm can enjoy hot showers
while being lost in nature. Today he's showing a group of 15 local farmers how this is taking shape there, from community festivals to“nature bathing” walks.
Eddie Rixon, a third-generation farmer at Lopemede Farm near Thame, is another. He took over the beef
farm 10 years ago, but in 2019 there was a serious disease outbreak in the cattle. With such a large field left unproductive, he had to reassess its future. When a teacher at his daughters’ forest school approached him about setting up an art centre last year, he realized he could launch an art forest school to make full use of the field. “Now
we have the art forest school here and we' re making about 6,000 a year,” Rixon says. “Not only am I increasing the biodiversity here, I'm increasing the social and community aspect of educating children—— and economically it's working.”
Meanwhile, Rixon is delighted that the farm is at the heart of the community again. He grew up reading
comics that showed farmers shouting:“Get off my land!”“We’ ve kind of switched that to‘get on our land’,” he laughs., But this isn't a free-for-all. Rixon has a code of conduct for visitors, and some areas remain out of bounds
for safety reasons. He's also using technology to open up the farm remotely, ircluding installing cameras in owl
boxes, which allow local schoolchildren to watch. owl's enicks without disturbing their nests.
“Often, there's a / farm' gate which is closed with a sign saying:‘Beware of the dog’ or whatever,” says Langford. “I'm thinking—— how can we open that farm gate ”
24. What is the benefit of the“hedge shower”
A. Campers can tour around the farm for free.
B. Campers can bond with nature while bathing.
C. Langford can overcome his financial hardship.
D. Langford can preserve the unique green spaces.
25. Why did Rixon set up an art forest school
A. To raise awareness of forest protection. B. To maximize the efficiency of the field.
C. To fill the gap of fewer art schools there. D. To increase the biodiversity of the farm.
26. What is Rixon's requirement for visitors
A. They should keep off the farmers' land.
B. They should enter the land by invitation.
C. They should bring cameras to watch owls.
D. They should be limited within certain areas.
27. Which word best describes farmers like Langford and Rixon
A. Conventional. B. Economical. C. Demanding. D. Pioneering.

Oil leaks at sea pose risks to water life and people. Attempts to remove that oil tend to be messy and costly and are often not very effective. But scientists have found a new way to absorb that sticky pollution: cork (软木).
Past research showed that cork could collect oil. Treating cork with lasers (激光) speeds up the pace at which cork picks up oil on water, reports Yuchun He, a professor at Central SouthUniversity in Changsha, China.
His team came across the new treatment by accident. The team had been using lasers to carve patterns into
wood. These researchers hoped the patterns might help them build electronic devices from the wood. They'd never tried carving cork before. But when they did, something unexpected happened.
The cork darkened. That change suggested cork can transform light into heat. They already knew that untreated cork could absorb oil. But adding heat could help. Oil is highly thick. But oil gets thinner when it warms up.
And thinner oil should more easily soak (浸透) into cork or stick to its surface.
The scientists had a feeling that tiny holes created by the laser might help the cork store more heat. This treated cork should warm up more quiskly than usual in sunlight. And that warmth should thin nearby oil, making it
easier for the. cork to absorb it.
To test this, they compared small, thin slices of original cork to laser-treated cork. In the dark, both corks took about 45 minutes to absorb just two drops of oil. With a camera, the researchers watched as this happened. Then, they repeated the experiment in sunlight and compared the results. In the-sun, the untreated cork needed 10 minutes to absorb the oil while the laser-treated cork toφ k just two minutes.
The treated cork is an example of something that can clean up oil leaks. However, the new tests took place in a lab, so cork cleanup will need to be tested in real-world conditions too—— at sea. That will determine if the technique works on a large scale and without harming water life.
28. What does“the new treatment” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A. Carving patterns into original wood.B. Collecting oil with laser-treated cork.
C. Absorbing pollution with cut-up wood.D. Making e-devices with laser-treated cork.
29. What is Paragraph 4 mainly about
A. The basic logic behind the finding. B. The design of the team's experiment.
C. The skill of making thick oil thinner. D. The method of turning light into heat.
30. Which of the following performs best in absorbing oil
A. Untreated cork in darkness. B. Laser-treated cork in darkness.
C. Untreated cork in sunlight. D. Laser-treated cork in sunlight.
31. What is likely to be the focus of the follow-up study
A. Conducting more experiments in labs. B. Researching the damage to water life.
C. Starting large-scale cleanup programs. D. Testing treated cork in natural oceans.

When planning my wedding,I was determined not to get caught up in the“perfect day”, but to have a
relaxed, information. My husband and I ended up having a lovely time.
“Pursuit of perfection is a prison,” says Moya Sarner, an NHS psychotherapist. Many of us are driven
by the unconscious(下意识的) wish that if we could just have the perfect body, the perfect job and the perfect family, then we would be happy. For that reason, it can be one of the most significant barriers to happiness in life.
The psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott wrote about the importance of the“good enough mother” who meets her baby's needs timely, but is not perfect. He said perfect is harmful. To meet every desire immediately, to
pass the toy straight away whenever it is demanded slows down a baby's growth, robbing them of the opportunity to feel frustrated (沮丧的) and learn to crawl to get the toy for themselves.
Winnicott believed that while perfection is not a virtue, tolerance of imperfection is. If we cannot develop the capacity to tolerate imperfection in ourselves and in those around us, we can have no self-confidence, no
sustainable relationships and no fulfilling career. If we' re always trying to build something called a perfect life, we aren't really living the one we' re in.
How do I know all this I am a perfectionist in recovery. I' ve started to recognize my intolerance of imperfection—— my need for certain things te be exactly as I would like them to be,from the way my husband
chops his onions to my terrer of being late— and it has made a huge difference to my relationship and my parenting. How can you be a good partner if you expect everyone else to fit your own narrow expectations How
can your child grow if they sense that they always need to color precisely inside the lines you' ve drawn out for them
We need to go further than toler ting imperfections. We need to learn to appreciate their humanity and beauty. imperfections are why people will pay a calligrapher to handwrite invitations when a computer can produce a flawless (完美的) version of the same script for less money and in' less time. So for a more delicious life, and ultimately a better one, I choose imperfectionism.
32. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By presenting a successful ceremony. B. By showing her firm determination.
C. By describing her personal experience. D. By introducing her perfect marriage.
33. What can we learn from the example of the“good enough mother”
A. Raising a child brings a mother much joy.
B. Pursuing perfection is the duty of mothers.
C. Meeting babies' demands is very challenging.
D. Responding instantly impacts babies' growth.
34. What is the function of the two questions at the end of Paragraph 5 .
A. To shift topics. B. To make assumptions.
C. To arouse interest. D. To encourage thinking.
35. Which of the following might the author approve of
A. A miss is as good as a mile. B. Haste makes waste.
C. Close enough is good enough. D. Practice makes perfect.

When John signed up to do a triathlon(铁人三项)a couple of summers ago, he had one simple goal: not
to finish in last place. After all, he was doing the triathlon with his 16-year-old son, Zane. He didn't want him to see his dad as the final loser.
John was not much of an athlete. He was over 50 and found lung-burning exercise deeply unpleasant. But that summer his wife urged him to get in shape, and his son came up with a surprising proposal:“Let's do a triathlon together, Dad!”
Since it was his son's idea, John felt he couldn't say no. What kind of message would that send So he searched online and found a triathlon a few weeks later in Massachusetts.
They had four weeks to train. Zane was in good shape from school sports teams. John did his best. He forced himself to run around the Central Park a few times and do some laps at the local Community Center.
They drove up the night before the race. When they wheeled their bikes to the base camp,John looked around and felt uneasy. So many sharply defined muscles. So many moisture-wicking socks. So many packs of high-calorie energy gels(能量棒). These folks were prepared.
“Don't panic”, John told himself. “There have to be a tew in the crowd even less prepared than I am”.
They lined up by the shore and dived, into the cold water. Zane immediately pulled away with strong freestyle strokes. John catght his breath, turned to the breaststroke (蛙泳) after five minutes and eventually made it back to l nd. He was in the bottom half of the pack but holding his own.
John ran to his bike, put on his helmet and started cycling along the hilly back-road course. For the next
half-hour, he could hear other bikers zooming by. After 12 miles, he wheeled his bike through the sensors.
He'd dropped lower in the pack, but there were several racers behind him.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The running part was John's least favorite.
Finally, John crossed the finish line, Zane waiting there.

The running part was John's least favorite. No equipment to help— just him, his sneakers and the pavement. Several runners passed him. He felt the struggle as he pushed forward, his breathing labored. He could hear the audience shouting with kindness, “You got this!” Glancing back, he saw the official ambulance just behind him in case he collapsed. He refused to walk, even though walking would probably have been faster than his foot-dragging way of running.Sweating all over, he kept moving.
Finally, John crossed the finish line, Zane waiting there. Yes! Zane was there, recording the precious moment with his cellphone. Hugging and congratulating his father, Zane said he loved doing a triathlon with him, no matter what the outcome. By that time, John's embarrassment of being the last racer had been replaced by pride. He had achieved something more impressive than finishing a triathlon. After all, the real victory was that he didn't give up. He made himselfa role model for his son!

M: I'd love to... Oh, yeah, wow, I can see the surface really well. Those lighter areas are like hills, and the darker areas are low stretches of land between hills.(14) Years ago, people thought they were oceans.
W: But there isn't any water on the moon.
M: We know that now, but they didn't know back then. I always find it amazing that knowledge can develop and change as we learn more.
W: Like once people thought the earth was flat
M: Exactly. These days we can see further into space than ever before, but there is so much more to learn.
W: Yes, you can get really powerful telescopes, can't you
M: That's right. Like the James Webb Space Telescope. It is able to see every stage in the history of the universe. Scientists will be able to study the Big Bang, which they believe was how everything first started.(15)
W: What How (15)
M: By looking at the light it gave off.(15) Although light is incredibly fast, it still takes many millions of years to travel through space. When the light finally reaches the eyes of scientists, what they are seeing happened many millions of years ago.
W: That hurts my head just thinking about it! Let's go downstairs to the living room and watch some videos. My parents have downloaded some about space for e on!
M: Ha! Okay.

Text 10
Hello everyone, and welcome to the weather report.(18)
Unfortunately, the stormy weather we' ve had today is going to stick around for a bit longer. Last week's sun was never going to last! (19) Interestingly, the thunderstorms we experienced earlier today are not uncommon for this time of year, despite it being summer. In fact, thunderstorms happen all the way through the summer months in the northern part of the earth, especially in China. But in the south, it is different.Thunderstorms there are more common between November and March.
Thunderstorms occur in almost every part of the world, particularly in South America and Africa— there can be a lot! People living in these regions will experience thunderstorms around 180 days of the year! For example, the heavy rain led to flash flooding in Rwanda in May,2023, and damaged many houses.(20)
And if you' re wondering if the rain will ever stop, we tiche-answer is no! It is always raining somewhere in the world! Scientists estimate that there are-over 1800 thunderstorms happening at any one time… somewhere.
However, two places where thunderstorms hardly ever occur are the North Pole and the South Pole. So, if you' re fed up with the rain, pernapp you need to move there! But be warned, it may snow!

Dear editor,
I'm writing to strongly recommend Chinese calligraphy as the theme for the“TraditionalChinese Culture on Campus” activities, as calligraphy stands as a unique art form representingChinese wisdom and aesthetics, with each stroke and character bearing the weight of centuries of history, philosophy, and artistic refinement.
To bring this theme to life, we can hold an exhibition that showcases the remarkable calligraphy works created by students and teachers. Additionally, a professional calligrapher can be invited to deliver a lecture. Through the expert's sharing of insights, techniques, and the stories behind the timeless art, students’ appreciation capabilities will be significantly enhanced.
Hope my suggestions are helpful and contribute positively to the success of the activities.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
