Jackson was amazed. Dad continued as he washed the seeds. “We carved the pumpkins just the same way we do now. Maybe someday you will be standing here and washing pumpkin seeds with your son.”
The next day, Dad and Jackson were back in the kitchen and by the window the seeds were dry, bathed in the warm sunlight. Dad placed two large cookie sheets(烤盘) and a large mixing bowl on the table, the same bowl that he and Grandpa used to use.
“I bet you miss your parents a lot, huh " Jackson said while watching Dad bringing a measuring cup with melted butter to the table. “Yes. I do. Whenever someone you love dies, you always miss them. But you also have lots of good memories to remember and those make you happy,” Dad said, pouring the butter into the mixing bowl. Jackson picked up some salt and dumped it in. Dad then poured some olive oil in.
“Grab a spoon and stir all of this.” Dad told Jackson as he turned the oven on. "Now, all we have to do is put all of the seeds in the bowl and mix them up until they are all covered with the oil, butter, and salt mixture. Then we can put the seeds on the cookie sheets and then put them in the oven.”

I love you, Dad.” Touched by his son’s resonating words打动人心的话, Dad gathered Jackson into his arms, hugging him tightly. And at the very moment, Jackson decided that he would sharpen his skills of roasting pumpkin seeds and then pass it down to his sons and his grandsons, making the memory chain lasting, lasting till the end of the world.

“Great work," Coach said as the team gathered. “Be here by 6:30 on Thursday to warm up.” “Six thirty ” Devin said. That didn’t sound right. “It's a night game,” Coach explained “Under the lights.”
Devin's heart sank. The concert was at 7:00. Same time as the game. He couldn't possibly do both.
“Playing at night will be so cool,” Tara said. “Under the bright stadium lights." Jordan patted Devin's shoulder. “You’re the MVP,” he said. “You won it.”
That night, Devin lay in bed, singing with his eyes shut, “No matter how hard the struggle, I will never let you down.” The solo was only four lines. Devin knew the words by heart, but the thought of singing alone made him shiver. Sometimes he was nervous about participating in sports, too, but that always went away as soon as a game started. He’d never sung a solo before. It was a relief to know he didn’t have to now. The soccer game was a perfect excuse. There were other kids who could sing the solo. He wasn't the best singer anyway, and he knew it.

Amy, who had been a volunteer a bit longer than Isabel, walked around as if she were in charge of the place. "Hey, Isabel." she barked, planting a hand on Isabel's shoulder. Isabel willed herself to remain still, though she would have loved to brush Amy's hand off
Just then, Isabel's mother rushed into the room with Mr. Garza, the custodian (管理员). "The hurricane is entering the Gulf," she reported. "The Gulf Shore Preserve needs help preparing for the storm.
