It was the golden season. I could see the yellow leaves falling with the cool wind. For others, it is a harvest season, while for me, it is an unpleasant season. I was preparing for the Postgraduate Entrance examination. That made me so tired, so I decided to have a walk along the Yanjiang Road in my university.
The days in autumn got me down, but when the sound of a violin got into my ears, I was so excited that I ran to see what it was. A young girl, sitting near the lake, was lost in playing her violin. I had never seen her before. Her music was so attractive that I listened quietly.
Lost in the music, I did not realize that I had been standing for so long. But my appearance did not seem to bother her. Every day when I passed by the lake, I would see her playing her violin. She was the only performer and I was the only listener. During the rest of the days in the season, life became interesting and I could review the courses carefully. Though we did not know each other, I thought we were always good friends.
Autumn was nearly over. One day, when I was listening carefully, the sound suddenly stopped. To my surprise, the girl came over to me.
“You must like the music” she said.
“Yes, you play very well. Why did you stop ” I asked.
Suddenly, a sad expression appeared on her face. “I came here to have a rest because I failed in the college entrance examination. I felt very disappointed. And it was your listening every day that encouraged me,” he said, “and I have to go tomorrow.”
Since then, I have never seen her again. But I will always remember the season and the girl. Sometimes we may come across some people in our lives who are like shooting star, but give off so much light that they guide you in the correct direction.

A. Near the lake. B. In the park. C. On the street. D. On the playground.
25. Why did the girl come here to have a rest
A Because she wanted to make the writer happy.
B. Because she failed in the college entrance exam.
C. Because she enjoyed the season and the nice view.
D. Because she liked to play the violin every afternoon.
26. What can we learn from the writer’s experience
A. Autumn is a good season for taking exams. B. We should learn to play the violin in sadness.
C. Strangers may have a positive influence on us. D. We should make friends with different people.
C
Have you ever felt sleepy and unable to think clearly in a crowded classroom Have you ever thought of the reason why you have such a feeling As a matter of fact, the problem is caused by what we breathe out ourselves-carbon dioxide, or CO2.
There are rules about how much fresh air we need in buildings to keep us healthy. When there isn’t enough new air coming in to push the old air out, pollutants (污染物) build up. One of these pollutants is CO2, which increases every time we breathe out.
The truth is that CO2 has always been considered harmless. After all, how harmful could it be since it comes out of our own body But this view changed when an American scientist named William Fisk happened to watch an experiment by Hungarian scientists six years ago. Their findings showed that people have difficulty doing paperwork when CO2 levels are high.
Fisk and his team repeated the experiment at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in California, US. They asked students to participate over three different periods. During each period, there were different CO2 levels. Students had to take part in role-playing games on a computer: They were told they were managers and the organization they were running was having some problems. Each student was then graded on how well they dealt with these problems.
Like the experiment from six years before, the results showed that students were more likely to make careful, smart decisions with less CO2 in the air. Their ability was reduced when the CO2 in the room rose, Science News reported. Carbon dioxide in crowded classrooms can cause sleepiness and unclear thinking. High CO2 levels affect students’ decision-making. What’s worse, CO2 can do harm without us even realizing it.
This problem is especially serious for schools because there are lots of people in classrooms for long hours every day. Students breathe out CO2 continuously and it accumulates (积累) when fresh air supply is not enough. So it is important that rooms are well-aired. US scientists recently surveyed 100 California classrooms. “We found a clear relationship between higher CO2 level and increased absences among the kids for illness,” said Mark Mendell, a member of the research team.
27. Why do pollutants build up in the building according to the passage
A. Because people breathe out CO2 and there’s not enough new air.
B. Because outside pollutants get into the building from windows.
C. Because cleaning products give out pollutants in the building.
D. Because computers in the building make lots of pollutants.
28. What can we learn from Fisk and his team’s experiment
A. Students bad the same reaction with different levels of CO2.
B. Low levels of CO2 could make students do things carelessly.
C. Students felt uncomfortable when the level of CO2 increased.
D. High levels of CO2 reduced the students’ ability to make decisions.
29. What’s the passage mainly about
A. The different opinions on classroom CO2. B. The hidden bad effects of classroom CO2.
C. The main possible cause of classroom CO2. D. The reasons for classroom production of CO2.
D
Do you ever have that feeling that there aren’t enough hours in a day Time seems to be running away from you so fast, and it’s impossible to finish tasks as planned. But then, when you go out into the countryside, suddenly everything seems slower and more at ease, as if time has changed in some way.
It’s not just you. Recent studies show nature can change our feeling of time.
For a lot of us, the needs of the work, home and family mean that we are always feeling like we don’t have enough time. Digital technologies make the situation get exacerbated. Always being connected to digital technologies makes working hours longer and makes us feel time become shorter and shorter.
Research suggests the solution to our short of time may be in nature. Psychologist Richardo Correia, at the University of Turku in Finland, found that being in nature may change how we experience time and even give us the sense of having more time.
Correia examined research which compared people’s experience of time when they performed different types of tasks in urban and natural environments. These studies showed that people felt time was stretched (延伸) in nature compared to in the city.
For example, people are more likely to think that a walk in the countryside is longer than a walk of the same distance in the city. Similarly, people say they feel time passing more slowly when they do tasks in green natural places than in cities. Nature seems to slow down and stretch our sense of time.
It’s not just our sense of the present time that seems to be changed by the natural world, but also our sense of the past and future. Research shows that spending time in nature helps move focus from the present needs to future needs. So rather than focusing on the stress of the needs of our time, nature helps us to see the bigger picture.
This can help us to take actions so that we can meet our long-term goals. Nature also helps us remember past good time clearly. This is partly because when we spend time in nature, it seems to make us less hurried. It allows us to put off immediate satisfaction to try to gain long-term benefits.
30. According to the passage, you may feel everything slower and more relaxed when ________.
A. you are playing interesting games with friends B. you are working in an office in the city center
C you are having a wonderful time in the village D. you are meeting the needs of family and friends
31. The underlined word “exacerbated” in Paragraph 3 is closest to ________.
A. more wonderful B. more important C. clearer D. worse
32. Which of the following would the writer most probably agree with
A. Digital technologies help people have a great time.
B. Staying in nature can change people’s feeling of time.
C. People have more time when staying in the countryside.
D. People should avoid spending time in the city to save time.
33. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage
A. To suggest that people should pay attention to long-term goals.
B. To give people more reasons to stay away from city in the day.
C. To tell people the positive effects of nature on our feeling of time.
D. To encourage people to focus on the stress of the needs of our time.

The United Nations World Tourism Day is a day for thinking about tourism and its effects on people and places. It is celebrated every year on 27 September. On this day, people meet to discuss tourism and try to solve the problems that tourism creates. The meetings are organized by a different country or a group of countries every year.
Tourism is a huge industry. In China, more and more people are likely to travel during holidays. According to a survey in 2023, there are about 50,000 travelling companies. Among them, 1.6 million people are in service of Class-A Tourist Attractions.
Tourism has a lot of advantages and helps local areas much. It gets money from what visitors pay for rooms food and things to remember. This gives jobs to local people. When tourists are interested in local culture, it gets shared and spreads. For example, they may watch local folk performances. With more tourists, roads and public things get nicer. The area becomes more well-known. Then, more money comes in to build new and better facilities (设施) like modern museums or theaters, which further attracts more visitors and helps the long-term development of the local area.
However, every coin has two sides. Tourism is not a completely positive thing, as well.
Some places receive millions of tourists a year, which creates problems for local people. Local people may feel not convenient with a large number of tourists on the roads, because it’s hard for local people to get to work or school. Tourism can be bad for the environment, too. Natural areas are destroyed to make space to build hotels and tourist facilities. More tourism means more crowds, noise, rubbish and pollution.
Importantly, tourists can help develop tourism in the long run by choosing more sustainable (可持续的) ways of visiting places to benefit the city and local people more. Sustainable tourism is great. Tourists can use less plastic, take green transport like bikes. What’s more, they should support local shops and hotels, respect local culture and protect nature. All of the above makes tourism good for a long time. Thus, everyone can benefit, and people can continue to enjoy visiting these places in the future.
34. When is the World Tourism Day celebrated
________________
35. How many travelling companies are there in China in 2023
________________
36. What can tourists do to help develop tourism in the long run
________________
37. Do you want to develop tourism in your hometown Why or why not (Please write two reasons.)
