Throughout history, humans have played some kind of kicking game. What the world now calls football--orsoccer in the United State--began as far back as 2500 B. C. E. with the Chinese game of cuju. Soccer is popular for all of these reasons, but the main reason is that it's a simple game. It can be played anywhere with anything--a ball, a can, or even some bags tied together. And anyone can play it. "You don't need to be rich... to play soccer, "says historian Peter Alegi, "You just need a flat space and a ball."
It is this simplicity that makes soccer the most popular sport in Africa. Here, even in rural areas far from the bright lights and big stadiums (体育场), children and adults play the game, often with handmade balls. All over Africa, soccer is popular with parents and teachers for another reason: It keeps young people, especially boys, in school and out of trouble. Emily had always been a quiet girl, preferring the company of books over people. Her world was small, confined to the four walls of her room, where she spent her days lost in the pages of her favorite novels. However, everything changed when her family moved to a new town, and she discovered an overgrown garden behind their old house.
The garden was a mess, but Emily found something special in the mess. She decided to make it her personal project to bring the garden back to life. Each day after school, she would spend hours digging, planting, and watering. Slowly, something began to change in the garden.

Do you have trouble sharing your thoughts or worry no one will listen if you do Finding the words to explain how you feel isn't always easy.
Making your voice heard means understanding that your words matter and your opinions count. Dr. Julia Clements is a psychologist (an expert in thoughts and feelings). She says speaking up means "expressing your views, thoughts and feelings, not bottling them all up, and being open to hearing the thoughts, feelings and views of others too."
Making yourself heard isn't about shouting the loudest: in fact you don't have to use your voice at all. You can express what you like and don't like or what you want for the future by writing or drawing instead, says Clements. "It is about finding ways to share what matters to you, "she explains.
Sharing your feelings with a person you trust will help you make sense of them. Scientists have discovered that sharing your feelings triggers (触发)a feel-good chemical in your brain. The chemical makes you feel relaxed and calm. Your voice can make a big difference to other people too, including friends and siblings. Jaime Thurston works with a charity. She gives kindness lessons in schools. She says "You can spread kindness and happiness simply by speaking. With a few kind words, you could help someone feel good about themselves or let them know they are supported."
Clements suggests practising conversations with friends or parents on the way home from school and seeing if you have different opinions about something. If you're struggling to explain your feelings, find a way that feels right for you, whether it's talking face-to-face or writing it down. When you're ready, "Take a deep breath and believe in yourself, "says Thurston. "Know that your opinion matters."
