Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her He didn’t look safe and seemed jobless. He looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. He said, “I’m here to help you, Ma’ am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm By the way, my name is Bryan. ” The lady felt a little relieved after hearing what Bryan said. She got in her car and thought maybe he was helping for money.
Bryan found all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. He crawled (爬) under the car looking for a place to put the jack (千斤顶) , cutting his finger a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands were hurt. As he was doing the work, she rolled down the window and began to talk to him. 【答案】
She expressed her gratitude for his coming to her aid. The old lady felt so warm in her inner heart as she watched Bryan, a stranger, selflessly change her flat tire in the cold. “You’ve been a blessing today, Bryan, ” she said. Bryan just smiled, saying it was nothing. She asked him how much she owed him. Any amount would have been all right with her. She had already imagined all the awful things that could have happened had he not stopped. But he simply declined and then the car could start again.
Before she drove off, the old lady handed him a small piece of paper with her phone number and address. It read, “If you’re ever in St. Louis, come to me. Maybe I can help you. ” Bryan smiled, feeling a warmth that transcended the cold evening. As he watched her car disappear into the distance, he realized that sometimes, the simple act of helping others can light up not just their day, but also one’s own heart. He headed home, determined to keep looking for work, knowing that kindness always finds a way.
