Do you know the International World Water Day
People, as well as plants and animals, cannot live without water. So we should save water and value life. The more we know, the better we can do.
What interesting facts do you know about water
World Water Day
International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day (WWD).
Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater.
You can take a brief overview of the different themes that have been the focus of World Water Day celebrations by visiting the website.

What else can we do
How can we save water It’s a problem for the whole world, but Beijing No. 109 Middle School’s “green team” has come up with one way. The team is working on ways to save energy and resources (资源). They found that in most Beijing communities (社区), mostly drains (排水) straight to the ground. What a waste! The team put three big plastic barrels (桶) in places around the community to collect the water. The water-saving experiment proved a success. People used it to water flowers and wash cars. Everyone thinks it’s a good idea.
Act right now and save water at times
Earth is our motherland in space. And on Earth, no water, no lives. However, with the development of human beings, Earth is in great danger now. Water, the source of life, is in really bad condition too. Floods, water pollution, lack of drinking water are becoming more and more common and worldwide. What can we do What should we do Act right now and save water at times. None of us hope to see that the last drop of water will be our tears.
Tapescript
Good evening and welcome to this week’s episode of The Natural World. I’m Rebecca. Tonight we will be talking about water. About 70% of the earth’s surface is water. However, about 97% of the water on earth is salt water. Salt water is not drinkable. Only about 3% of the water on our planet is fresh water, but most of it is ice. So, how much of the water can we use as drinking water Only about half a percent. And in many places, clean and safe drinking water is not easy to find. Why is water so important Well, most of the human body is water. Around 60% in an average adult man.
There is more water in some parts of the body. For example, about 75% of the brain is water. People can live for several weeks without food, but only for a few days without water. Human beings need around 2 to 3 litres of water per day. Athletes usually need more water. When it is hot outside, people need more water too. But people use a lot more water for other things such as washing clothes and taking baths. There are many ways to save water. Having a bath can waste a lot of water, so it’s better to have a quick shower. Also, remember to turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. That way you can save over 100 litres of water in a week.
