All around the world, buildings are going green! People are making green buildings. What
does it mean to go green or make a green building A green building is designed in a way that
is not harmful to the environment. The building uses energy, water, and other materials in
ways that are good for the environment.
When planning green buildings, architects(建筑师) must think about how to use energy,
water, and materials in an environment-friendly way. There are many ways to save energy.
Architects can design buildings to use natural light. Buildings can also be made with solar or
wind power to get energy from the sun or the wind. To save water, green buildings can have
areas on the roofs to collect rainwater. Kitchens and bathrooms can have sinks(洗涤池) and
toilets(马桶) that conserve water. As for the materials used to build the building,it is important to
use materials that do not have chemicals that are harmful to the air or water.Recycled materials

a huge" living roof" of plants. A temple in Thailand is made out of one million recycled glass

Getting Close to Nature
Last autumn, I joined a school-organized hiking trip to a remote mountain valley. Though it
wasn’t a famous tourist spot, its untouched beauty taught me the true meaning of being close to
nature.
We set off early in the morning, carrying backpacks filled with snacks and water. The trail
was rugged, lined with golden maple leaves that rustled under our feet. As we climbed higher, the
air grew crisper, carrying the earthy scent of pine trees. Birds chirped from hidden branches, and
occasionally, a squirrel would dart across the path, making us laugh with surprise. Halfway up, we
stumbled upon a crystal-clear stream. Kneeling to drink, I felt the icy water rush over my hands—
a refreshing reminder of nature’s purity.
At the mountaintop, we sat in silence, gazing at the rolling hills painted in autumn hues. Our
teacher pointed out wild herbs and explained how indigenous people used them for medicine.
Later, we gathered fallen branches to build a small bonfire, roasting sweet potatoes and sharing
stories under the starry sky. The flames crackled, blending with the whispers of the wind, creating
a symphony of simplicity.
This experience transformed my understanding of nature. It wasn’t just about scenic views; it
was about slowing down, observing life’s tiny wonders, and realizing our role as guardians of the environment. Technology often distracts us, but in the wilderness, I rediscovered peace and
humility. Nature doesn’t demand perfection—it teaches us to coexist, to breathe, and to appreciate the quiet miracles around us.
