Giant pandas are very special animals only found in China and get a lot of attention around the world. They look really cute with black and white fur and the special black parts around their eyes. You can tell them apart easily.
These pandas mostly live in bamboo forests in the mountains in central and western China, like in Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu. Bamboo is almost all they eat. An adult panda spends 12 to 16 hours a day eating bamboo to have enough energy. Even though they are in the meat-eating animal group, they now mainly eat bamboo. Their bodies have changed a bit to handle all that bamboo, but they still have some things like a short gut that meat-eaters have.
It’s not easy for pandas to have babies. Female pandas are only ready to have babies for a short time in spring and it’s hard for them to get pregnant .When they do get pregnant, the baby-carrying time can be different, from 83 to 200 days. Newborn pandas are very small, only about 100 grams, like a little mouse and very weak.
To protect them, pandas are given the highest level of protection in China. Many nature areas have been made to give them safe places to live. People also do a lot of science work and help them have babies. In special places, people use good ways to take care of baby pandas and then let some of them go back to the wild to make more pandas in nature. This is very important for pandas to keep living and growing as a group.
