Every Time You Hear That Song
Inspired by Dolly Parton’s real-life time capsule(胶囊), which sits in Dollywood, waiting to be opened on Dolly’s 100th birthday, Every Time You Hear That Song is written by Jenna Voris from two points of view. The second is that of Decklee Cassel in the 1960s, coming up in the music world, and what she had to give up to succeed.

In the world of Hollywood, where actors captivate audiences with their on-screen performances, some talented actors have surprising hobbies and side-interests, which often go unnoticed. Viewers are easy to perceive them as the characters they portray. Harrison Ford and Angelina Jolie are just two of them, and surprisingly, both of them enjoy flying.
Beyond his iconic roles as an action hero, Harrison Ford has a genuine love for aviation (航空). He is a certified pilot with a particular interest in flying vintage planes. Ford’s passion for aviationstarted long before his acting career, and he has even used his flying skills to engage in humanitarian (人道主义的) efforts, including search and rescue missions.
Flying allows Ford to break free from the constraints (限制) of the ground, providing a sense of freedom and liberation that complements his on-screen portrayals of daring and courageous characters. Enjoying vintage planes also reflects his appreciation for history and the preservation of classic aircraft. Through his aviation pursuits, Ford not only fulfills his own desire for adventure but also contributes to the greater good by using his skills to assist others in need.
Like Harrison Ford, Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie also enjoys flying. She has proven herself as an accomplished pilot, having earned her private pilot’s license. Jolie’s love for aviation led her to own multiple small aircraft, and she often takes to the skies during her leisure time. Her passion for flying demonstrates her adventurous spirit and determination to explore new horizons both on and off the screen.
For Jolie, flying offers a sense of freedom and empowerment, allowing her to escape the confines (界) of everyday life and embrace the vastness of the sky. Her dedication to mastering the art of piloting showcases her discipline and commitment that have undoubtedly contributed to her success in various aspects of life. By pursuing a hobby that is traditionally male-dominated, Jolie also sends a powerful message of breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes (刻板印象).
24. What do viewers think the stars are like in real life

Newspapers, advertisements, and labels surround us everywhere, turning our environment into a mass of texts to be read or ignored. As the quantity of information we receive continually increases and as information spreading is shifting from page to screen, it may be time to ask how changes in our way of reading may affect our mental life, for how we receive information bears vitally on the ways we experience and interpret reality.
What is most obvious in the evolution of reading is the gradual displacement of the vertical (垂直的) by the horizontal — a shift from intensive to extensive reading. In our culture, access is not a problem, but proliferation (激增) is. And the reading act is necessarily different than it was in its earliest days. Awed by the availability of texts, the reader tends to move across surfaces without allowing the words to resonate (共鸣) inwardly.
Interestingly, this shift from vertical to horizontal parallels the overall societal shift from bounded lifetimes spent in single location to lives lived in wider geographical areas in streams of data. This larger access was once regarded as worldliness (世俗) — one traveled, knew the life of cities, the ways of diverse people…. It has now become the birthright of anyone who owns a television set.
How do we square the advantages and disadvantages of horizontal and vertical awareness The villagers, who know everything about their surroundings, are blessedly unaware of events in distant lands. The media-obsessed urbanites, by contrast, never lose their awareness of what happens in different parts of the world.
We may ask, which people are happier The villagers may have found more sense in things owing both to the limited range of their concern and the depth on their information. But restricted conditions and habit also suggest boredom and limitation. The lack of a larger perspective leads to suspiciousness and cautious conservatism, but for the same reason, the constant availability of data and macro-perspectives has its own decreasing returns. When everything is happening everywhere, it gets harder to care about anything.
How do we assign value Where do we find the fixed context that allows us to create a narrative of sense about our lives Ideally, I suppose, one would have the best of both worlds — the purposeful fixity of the local, as well as the availability of enhancing views: a natural ecology of information and context.
28. What can we learn about the first two paragraphs
A. People are tired of information proliferation.
B. It’s difficult to shift from vertical to horizontal reading.
C. Where and how we read texts shapes our mental life.
D. Readers today tend to ignore deep engagement with texts.
29. What’s the feature of horizental societal change
A. Bounded lifetimes spent in single location.
B. Lives lived in limited areas in streams of data.
C. Everyone has the right to own a television set.
D. Each individual can know about events in distant lands.
30. According to the passage, villagers _________.
A. are less bored than media-obsessed urbanites.
B. show no interest in what happens in the world.
C. have a deeper understanding of their surroundings.
D. cannot adapt to changing situations.
31. What can we learn from the passage
A. Vertical awareness allows us to care about others.
B. It’s wise to keep a balance between a local and a global view.
C. Changes in our reading habits lead to the societal shift.
D. Horizontal reading affects our mindset more than vertical reading.
D
With the development of modern technology, drones are being applied to various fields. Drone light shows are becoming especially popular in the West. By now, if you live on the U. S. East or West Coasts, you’ve probably been troubled by wildfire smoke. The fires are increasing in frequency and intensity as climate change worsens. And fireworks, as you can guess from their name, cause fires—more than you might think.
That’s what caused a handful of California towns to quit fireworks and turn to drones last year. Sydney, Australia, known for its massive fireworks display, is considering doing the same due to the risk of wildfires. And fire danger is now top of mind for many U. S. cities as the Independence Day, or the American national day, nears.
In addition to reducing the risk of fires, drone light shows present a safer alternative for the folks behind the curtain. Fireworks injured more than 10,000 people last year because they can accidentally erupt while on the ground. Drones won’t. And since light shows are required to keep the ground below the show clear, there’s no risk of a drone falling from the sky into the crowd.
Drones are also less disturbing, creating only a light buzzing noise. Fireworks, on the other hand, can burst your eardrum if you’re standing close enough. That’s a nuisance for some families with animals, small children, or other people who are sensitive to noise.
But perhaps the biggest reason for the switch to drones is that they’re thought to be more eco-friendly. Apart from starting fires, firework smoke leaves behind a trail of harmful chemicals and is considered a pollutant. Drones are also a reusable option, capable of flying potentially hundreds of shows before they even require maintenance. That’s a huge benefit to the environment—and to the companies paying to put on these performances.
At the end of the day, though, some cities are likely switching to drones simply because they’re cooler. That’s not to say that fireworks aren’t cool. But drones allow for more creativity, with the ability to synchronize(同步) lights to music and recreate complex images in the sky.
Nevertheless, it’s still too early to rush to the conclusion that drones will completely take the place of fireworks in the near future.
32. What are the reasons why some cities give up fireworks
A They are too expensive. B. They are not cool any more.
C. They speed up climate change. D. They may pose fire risks.
33. What method does the author use to demonstrate the advantages of drones in paragraph 3
A. By referring to data from previous studies.
B. By analyzing causes and effects.
C. By making a comparison.
D. By giving a definition.
34. What does the underlined word “nuisance” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Reward. B. Attraction. C. Annoyance. D. Instance.
35. What would the author probably discuss in the paragraph that follows
A. The similarities shared by drones and fireworks.
B. The potential challenges drones will face.
C. The importance of drones in promoting economy.
D. The strong competition from companies in different industries.

It was a sunny August day on a San Diego beach. My best friend, Sam Hanivan, and I got ready for a day of boogie boarding (趴板冲浪) . Little did we know that this seemingly ordinary day would become an extraordinary event in our memories forever. On that day my best friend Sam Hanivan saved my life.
Our excitement was fueled not only by the hope of enjoying the beach but also by the interesting eight-hour car journey before our arrival.
As soon as we got out of the car, we became so excited. With sunscreen applied and boogie boards in hand, Sam and I raced toward the water, unaware of the challenges awaiting us. As ten-year-olds, our only concern was to have fun and enjoy the moment. We spent the day riding the waves, and swimming back and forth, our laughter carried by the ocean breeze.
Sam and I shared not only the excitement of the waves but every snack break and moment of rest. However, as the day progressed, unlucky signs appeared on the horizon. The weather took a turn for the worse, and the ocean waves became rolling. Despite the changing conditions, we continued to enjoy the sea until the playful waves transformed into dangerous tides.
At that time, Sam and I found ourselves far from the safety of the shore. Frightened and anxious, Sam and I were fighting against the waves trying to get to the beach, but the more we fought, the more we were forced into the ocean. In a desperate attempt to get out of the danger, we almost ran out of our energy.
Amidst our struggle, a lifeguard’s order came, “Don’t fight the waves. Swim diagonally (对角线地).” Following the lifeguard’s instructions, changed our course, swimming diagonally rather than fighting the waves head on.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

To my delight, Sam, my loyal friend, remained by my side.

【66题答案】
【答案】高分作文一:
Dear Peter,
I hope this letter finds you well. Last week, our class had a theme meeting about our favorite non-material cultural heritage。
Half of the students said they liked pottery making, which allows them to create beautiful works of art with their own hands. One third of the class loved traditional festivals, like the Dragon Boat Festival, because they could learn about Chinese culture and traditions. As for me, I’m crazy about paper cutting. I think it’s amazing how a simple piece of paper can be turned into such intricate designs。
Bringing non-material cultural heritage into the classroom is really beneficial. It helps us inherit and understand our culture better, strengthening our cultural identity. Moreover, it enriches our campus life and makes learning more interesting.
I believe it’s important to preserve these traditions. Looking forward to hearing from you!

高分作文二:
Dear Peter,
How’s everything going I wanted to share with you something exciting that happened in our class last week. We had a discussion about our favorite non-material cultural heritage.
It turned out that half of the class enjoys pottery making. A third of the students are fond of traditional festivals, especially the Dragon Boat Festival. Personally, I’m fascinated by paper cutting. The detail and artistry in each piece never cease to amaze me.
Having non-material cultural heritage in our classes is truly rewarding. It not only helps us appreciate our culture more but also boosts our national pride.
I think it’s crucial to keep these traditions alive. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
Take care,
Li Hua

However, under no circumstances would he leave his best friend alone. He kept me company all the time and we were swimming neck and neck. To be frank, without Sam’s company and help, I would have given up a long time ago.
Thank Goodness we finally got to the shore. What a narrow escape from death! Our determination and persistence paid off in the end! Lying on the beach, we had no strength to stand up. “Thanks a lot! You have saved my life!” I told Sam gratefully. “It’s nothing. That’s what friends are for,” Sam replied with a smile. Never will I forget that day in my life. Sam’s heroic and selfless behavior transformed an ordinary beach day into a proof of true friendship. In the face of danger, Sam chose to stay by my side, a decision that went beyond the call of friendship.
