Tenzing Norgay is a guide(向导)from Nepal(尼泊尔) and Edmund Hillary is a mountaineer(登山家)from New Zealand.They became the first men to reach the top of Qomolangma on May 29, 1953.

On May 25.1960,we Chinese climbers first showed our national flag to the world on the top of Qomolangma.The climbers were Qu Yinghua,GongBu, and Wang Fuzhou.They chose an even harder line to climb. They did so from the north side(北坡).

Background
新中国当时刚成立不久，提出将珠峰一分为二，南面属尼泊尔，北面属中国。但尼泊尔声称珠峰是属于尼泊尔的，与中国无关，理由很简单，“贵国从未爬上过北坡”。而尼泊尔人Tenzing Norgay和新西兰人Edmund Hilliary于1953年从南侧率先登上了珠峰，成为了世界上第一支成功登顶的队伍，当时的中国无人登上珠峰。这也为尼泊尔同我国谈判时增加了最大的筹码。
在1956年，中国组建了第一支登山队，终于在1960年5月25日凌晨4点20分，队员王富洲、贡布、屈银华将五星红旗稳稳地插上珠穆朗玛峰，完成了人类历史上首次从北坡登顶珠峰的壮举
登顶珠峰并不是心血来潮去爬个山头那么简单，当时有着复杂的国际背景。“活着上去，活着下来”，它考验的不光是国家的决心和登山运动员的勇气，还考验着国家的科技水平、气象水平、后勤保障水平等方方面面。
