New Yorkers also play mahjong outdoors. In Bryant Park, it’s easy to see four New Yorkers sitting around at the mahjong corner, reported The Paper.

Language changes all the time. New words and phrases appear and grow. The words used by young people in the UK can be very different from those used by adults. Living in a multi—cultural (多元文化的) society has an effect on language, especially on young people, whose friends are often from a mix of backgrounds.
Young British people use lots of language that you usually can’t find in most dictionaries. These informal words and expressions are known as “slang (俚语)”. It is not possible to make a complete list of modern British slang. By the time the list were finished, it would be out of date! Here are a few examples:
“Sorted!”, “Sound!” and “Cool!” all mean “That’s good!”
“Whatever” means “I don’t care”. (e. g. A: But he says we can’t leave until we’ve finished. B:Whatever. I’m going.)
“He’s fine.” And “He’s fit.” both mean “He’s good—looking.” “Fine” and “fit” can describe a boy or a girl.
However, not everybody likes slang. A school in Sheffield asked its pupils to stop using slang words, such as hiya (hello). The head teacher says that if young people learn to speak “correctly”, this will help them get a place at university.
So, how important is it to understand these slang words and expressions If you watch movies in English, chat online in English or are interested in English song lyrics (歌词), understanding slang will be very useful. You probably won’t see much slang in your English exam, though.
63.If you are happy for your best friend getting the first prize in a competition, which slang could best describe your feeling
A.Whatever. B.Fine. C.Hiya. D.Sorted.
64.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.Modern slang changes very quickly.
B.“Fit” is only used to describe boys.
C.Young people always use the same slang as their parents.
D.Understanding slang is very helpful in doing English exam papers.
65.The writer’s main purpose is to ________.
A.explain the best way to learn slang
B.tell readers about British slang
C.discuss that slang should be stopped
D.interest readers with slang words

Is your TV connected to the Internet What about your chair,or your fridge Probably they are not. But in the future, most things in your home may be connected, thanks to the so-called “Internet of things”.
The Internet of things may be coming sooner than you think. Earlier this year, A Samsung CEO spent a lot of time talking about the Internet things. He said that five years from now, every Samsung product will be part of the Internet of things,no matter whether it’s a remote control or a washing machine.
So, how do household(家用的) objects that are part of the Internet of things work Well, think of a common chair. When connected to the Internet, the chair warms up when it knows the user has just walked into the room and is feeling cold.
An Internet-connected camera could help people feel safer in their homes. It can know people’s faces and has an infrared sensor(红外传感器),so even if it’s dark it can see when someone passes by and send you a message on your smartphone to let you know who’s there. If the person is someone you don’t know,it can tell you that ,too.
But according to MIT Technology Roview, whether companies are connecting dog food bowls or security systems to the Internet, there may be some problems. For example, many early connected-home objects don’t have much built-in security, which means they could be hacked(被黑客攻击). Morever, it could be difficult to get these new machines to work together especially when they are made by different companies. To fight this ,many companies have joined the Open Interconnect Consortium, which had 45 menbers by late 2014.
So, picture this: you enter your home. The temperature changes to make you feel comfortable. Your favorite music starts playing for you. Do you think that this would be a good thing I t may happen sooner than you think.

Using drama (戏剧) and role-playing in the classroom can be a powerful tool to deepen students’ learning experiences. By involving students in these activities, teachers can build an environment that encourages active involvement and deep thinking.
Drama and role-playing can be used in different subjects, from English and history to science and maths. Teachers can design activities that allow students to learn in an experiential way. By using drama and role-playing, teachers can make students get involved actively in their own learning.
Drama and role-playing activities provide a safe space for learners to experiment with a new language without the fear of real-world results. This experimentation develops confidence in speaking and using the language. Learners are encouraged to try new things and make mistakes that are important parts of learning.

This experience helps them develop empathy (同感), see the world from different points of view and manage their own emotions (感情).
Drama and role-playing activities also add fun and excitement to learning. They create memorable experiences that help students understand and keep information, and leave a lasting influence on students.
Drama and role-playing activities require students to work together and have good communication. A man walked in the desert for two days. He met a sandstorm during the trip. Luckily, he found a small old house and discovered a water pump (泵) in the corner.
He went to draw water, but he couldn’t pump water no matter how hard he tried. He sat on the ground sadly. Just at that time, he saw a small bottle with a cork (瓶塞). There was a yellow note posted on the bottle, which read, “You must put the water into the pump before you can draw water! Don’t forget before you leave — refill it with water!” He pulled the cork and found the bottle was really filled with water! He could hardly believe his luck.
At this moment, he thought, “If I only think about myself, as long as I drink the water in the bottle, I can be alive to go out of this desert! If I do as the note told, I might be thirsty to death. Will I take the risk or not ”
Finally, he decided to do what the note told him and began to draw water with his shaking hands. Sure enough, the water really came out!
After he drank enough water, he filled the bottle with water. He enveloped (封住) it with the cork and added his words after the note, “Believe me it’s really useful. You should learn to pay before you get it!”

in New. York City is at the mahjong club,” said Mutammara in one of his videos. “It’s super beginner-friendly
and everyone is really nice.”
New Yorkers also play mahjong outdoors. In Bryant Park, it’s easy to see four New Yorkers sitting around
at the mahjong corner, reported The Paper.
Gregg Swain has been an American mahjong lover for about 10 years. She wrote a book called Mah Jongg:

Language changes all the time. New words and phrases appear and grow. The words used by young people
in the UK can be very different from those used by adults. Living in a multi—cultural (多元文化的) society
has an effect on language, especially on young people, whose friends are often from a mix of backgrounds.

Young British people use lots of language that you usually can’t find in most dictionaries. These informal
words and expressions are known as “slang (俚语)”. It is not possible to make a complete list of modern
British slang. By the time the list were finished, it would be out of date! Here are a few examples:
“Sorted!”, “Sound!” and “Cool!” all mean “That’s good!”
“Whatever” means “I don’t care”. (e. g. A: But he says we can’t leave until we’ve finished. B:Whatever.
I’m going.)
“He’s fine.” And “He’s fit.” both mean “He’s good—looking.” “Fine” and “fit” can describe a boy or a
girl.
However, not everybody likes slang. A school in Sheffield asked its pupils to stop using slang words, such
as hiya (hello). The head teacher says that if young people learn to speak “correctly”, this will help them get a
place at university.
So, how important is it to understand these slang words and expressions If you watch movies in English,
chat online in English or are interested in English song lyrics (歌词), understanding slang will be very useful.
You probably won’t see much slang in your English exam, though.
63.If you are happy for your best friend getting the first prize in a competition, which slang could best
describe your feeling
A.Whatever. B.Fine. C.Hiya. D.Sorted.
64.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage

B.“Fit” is only used to describe boys.
C.Young people always use the same slang as their parents.
D.Understanding slang is very helpful in doing English exam papers.
65.The writer’s main purpose is to ________.
A.explain the best way to learn slang
B.tell readers about British slang
C.discuss that slang should be stopped
D.interest readers with slang words

Is your TV connected to the Internet What about your chair,or your fridge Probably they are not. But in
the future, most things in your home may be connected, thanks to the so-called “Internet of things”.
The Internet of things may be coming sooner than you think. Earlier this year, A Samsung CEO spent a lot
of time talking about the Internet things. He said that five years from now, every Samsung product will be part
of the Internet of things,no matter whether it’s a remote control or a washing machine.
So, how do household(家用的) objects that are part of the Internet of things work Well, think of a
common chair. When connected to the Internet, the chair warms up when it knows the user has just walked into
the room and is feeling cold.
An Internet-connected camera could help people feel safer in their homes. It can know people’s faces and
has an infrared sensor(红外传感器),so even if it’s dark it can see when someone passes by and send you a
message on your smartphone to let you know who’s there. If the person is someone you don’t know,it can tell
you that ,too.
But according to MIT Technology Roview, whether companies are connecting dog food bowls or security
systems to the Internet, there may be some problems. For example, many early connected-home objects don’t
have much built-in security, which means they could be hacked(被黑客攻击). Morever, it could be difficult to
get these new machines to work together especially when they are made by different companies. To fight
this ,many companies have joined the Open Interconnect Consortium, which had 45 menbers by late 2014.
So, picture this: you enter your home. The temperature changes to make you feel comfortable. Your
favorite music starts playing for you. Do you think that this would be a good thing I t may happen sooner than
you think.

Using drama (戏剧) and role-playing in the classroom can be a powerful tool to deepen students’ learning
experiences. By involving students in these activities, teachers can build an environment that encourages active
involvement and deep thinking.
Drama and role-playing can be used in different subjects, from English and history to science and maths.
Teachers can design activities that allow students to learn in an experiential way. By using drama and
role-playing, teachers can make students get involved actively in their own learning.
Drama and role-playing activities provide a safe space for learners to experiment with a new language
without the fear of real-world results. This experimentation develops confidence in speaking and using the
language. Learners are encouraged to try new things and make mistakes that are important parts of learning.
Students have the chance to explore different roles by taking part in drama and role-playing activities. It

experiment with different methods.

social matters by stepping into the shoes of different persons. This experience helps them develop empathy (同
感), see the world from different points of view and manage their own emotions (感情).
Drama and role-playing activities also add fun and excitement to learning. They create memorable
experiences that help students understand and keep information, and leave a lasting influence on students.
Drama and role-playing activities require students to work together and have good communication. By
taking on different roles, students learn to listen to others, discuss with each other, understand different opinions,
solve problems, and work as a team. Students can carry the skills with them beyond the classroom.

Aman walked in the desert for two days. He met a sandstorm during the trip. Luckily, he found a small old
house and discovered a water pump (泵) in the corner.
He went to draw water, but he couldn’t pump water no matter how hard he tried. He sat on the ground
sadly. Just at that time, he saw a small bottle with a cork (瓶塞). There was a yellow note posted on the bottle,
which read, “You must put the water into the pump before you can draw water! Don’t forget before you leave
— refill it with water!” He pulled the cork and found the bottle was really filled with water! He could hardly
believe his luck.
At this moment, he thought, “If I only think about myself, as long as I drink the water in the bottle, I can
be alive to go out of this desert! If I do as the note told, I might be thirsty to death. Will I take the risk or not ”
Finally, he decided to do what the note told him and began to draw water with his shaking hands. Sure
enough, the water really came out!
After he drank enough water, he filled the bottle with water. He enveloped (封住) it with the cork and
added his words after the note, “Believe me it’s really useful. You should learn to pay before you get it!”
