本题型在一篇200词左右的短文中留出10个空白，要求考生根据自己的语言知识、生活常识及篇章语义之间的逻辑关系填入一个适当的单词，或根据英语单词的派生或曲折变化规则填入所给单词的正确形式，使填充后的短文结构完整，意义连贯，句法和词法形式正确。本题型要求考生在正确理解文章主旨大意的基础上，特别关注文章微观语境中的词语、句子与整个篇章结构之间的联系，以考查考生对英语词法、句法和语篇的掌握情况和实际应用能力，重点考查考生对词汇、构词知识和语法规则的掌握情况以及在特定语境中的应用能力。
