The ebike has become an essential item, and even the King has been spotted riding one.According to the market research company Mintel, sales have almost tripled over the past five years. While ebikes have become increas ngly commonplace, they are still undeniably expensive. You can pick up a perfectly adequate push
bike for 300, but most ebikes cost nearly 2,000. Now, CyclingElectric, designed to help consumers choose an ebike, offers the following recommendations.
Best folding bike
Carbo Model X
Price: 2,799| Weight:13.3kg
Range: up to 34 miles
This is one of the most convenient bikes, from a little-known label. The lightweight Carbo X is the perfect example of convenience thanks to its carbon frame and belt drive, instead of a metal bike chain. This makes it lighter and less likely to get messy than an electric Brompton, with its more traditional, oily chain.
Most stylish
Temple Cycles Classic
Price: from 2,995| Weight: 19kg
Range: ta p to 74 miles
This Bristol-based brand is known for its elegant pushbikes, which are hand-built in the city. This is its electric version. It's a very sleek and functional commuter option and not too heavy.Temples have fewer proprietary (品牌专卖的) parts and so are serviceable in any bike shop. Stylish as they may be, the VanMoofs and the Cowboys
can be a bit more complex to get back-up and service.
The money-no-object option
Riese & Müller Nevo4 GT Vario GX
Price: 5,380| Weight:28.4kg
Range: up to 93 miles
This is a prime example of the attention to detail delivering a high-quality experience in functionality, comfort and practicality— if you can afford it. It has the capacity to handle 25kg of luggage in a pannier, powerful road
lights and a beautifully smooth motor.
21. What is the advantage of the Temples over other stylish ebike brands
A. They are more lightweight. B. They have more functions.
C. They have easier access to service. D. They are more comfortable.
22. Which ebike will a consumer probably choose, who cares most about an excellent experience
A. Carbo Model X. B. The VanMoofs and the Cowboys.
C. Temple Cycles Classic. D. Riese & Müller Nevo4 GT Vario GX.
23. Where is the text probably taken from
A. An online post. B. A magazine column.
C. A market research report. D. An official document.

With light brown eyes and jet-black hair, my mom is my favorite hello and most difficult goodbye. For as
long as I can remember, she has been my idol. While working as a judpe. she is in pursuit of justice for others. As
a mother, friend, and woman, however, she shows a softer side. Her actions show sensitivity, optimism, and kindness unlike any other I have ever known.
As an only child, I never received the gift of a sibling (兄弟姐妹) with whom I could share laughs, secrets,
or knowing glances from across a room. The older I' ve got, the more I have realized Inever needed a sibling, anyway.
Back home, my mom and I would wake and have a quick breakfast together, and leave forJersey City—— she is off to work and I went to school. Regardless of cold weather, heavy traffic, or my anxious stomach ache prior
to a day of exams, we always had fun. She would tell jokes and we would laugh. With her infectious smile and confident attitude, my mom managed to turn every sad morning of mine into a better day.
Now that I am at Rochester, we are separated by nearly 400 miles of sloping highway. I no longer have the
chance of looking out of a classroom window and seeing her office building standing

tall a mile away. Moving away from home was a major shift—— and not just because of my new suburban rented room, minimized food options, and much bitter winters.
When I am missing my mom especially, I recall the words she told me when I would cry as a young girl:
a line from her favorite poem, by author E. E. Cummings.
“I carry your heart with me;I carry it in my heart,” she'd smile, wiping away my tears.
As I reflect upon that sentence,I can see that there is a piece of my mom with me wherever I go.I guess
those 400 miles between the two of us isn't so distant, after all.

A. She is a considerate role model. B. She is a popular poet.

B. Poems for my mother and me.

D. Memory of my separated mother and me.

In today's motivational literature, failure is often viewed as something to be celebrated.Inspirational speakers are fond of quoting the words of the novelist Samuel Beckett——“Try again.Fail again. Fail better.” It seems that disappointments are an essential stepping stone to success, a turning point in our life story that will ultimately end
in victory.
Nevertheless, psychological researches find most of us struggle to handle failure constructively. In other words, we fail to “fail forward”. We find ways to devalue (贬低) the task at which we failed, and become less motivated to persevere and reach our goals. This phenomenon is known as the“sour-grape effect”, which was discovered by Professor Hallgeir Sj stad.
Sj stad explains that the “sour-grape effect” is a self-protective mechanism(机制). “Most ot us picture ourselves as competent people, so when external feedback(反馈) suggests otherwise, it poses a serious threat to that self-image,” he says. “The easiest way out is to deny or explain away the external signal, so we can reduce the inconsistency and preserve a positive sense of self. We do this even without noticing.”
If you have one bad interview for your dream job, you might convince yourself that you don't really want it at all, and stop applying for similar positions. The same goes if you fail to impress at a sports trial, or if a publisher rejects the first submission of your manuscript. “We tend to explain away our shortcomings and convince ourselves
our ' Plan C' is actually our ' Plan A',” Sj stad says.
It doesn't mean we should persevere in goals all the time. It can be healthy to change ambitions if the process
is no longer making us happy. But the“sour-grape effect” may lead us to come to this decision prematurely, rather
than hanging on a little and seeing whether we might learn and improve.
Failures are unavoidable. By learning to face the disappointment instead of devaluing its importance and pretending nothing has happened, you may find it easier to achieve your goals.
28. W ha t can we learn from Paragraph 3 about the“sour-grape effect”
A. It protects us from false feedback.
B. It pictures us as competitive people.
C. It poses a severe threat to the self-image.
D. It denies negative feedback to ourselves.
29. What is the author's attitude towards failure
A. Short-sighted. B. Wait-and-see.
C. Objective. D. Skeptical.
30. What does the underlined word“prematurely” in Paragraph 5 mean
A. Unhappily. B. Mistakenly.
C. Hurriedly. D. Carelessly.
31. Which statement would the author most probably agree with
A. Don't escape when our self-image is broken.
B. Don't quit when goals no longer make you happy.
C. Never hesitate to replace“Plan A” with“Plan C”.
D Never forget to maintain a positive sense of self.

A new study found people growing up in rural areas have better navigation (导航) skills than those raised
in cities and that people whose home cities have grid layouts(网格布局) are slightly better at navigating similarly organised streets, despite having poorer performance overall.
The study involved nearly 4,000,000 participants from 38 countries who played Sea Hero Que(SHQ),a game requiring them to navigate a boat in a virtual environment to find the places marked on a map. The researchers found that where people grew up influenced their pertormance in the game, while their present living place did not affect their scores.
The researchers compared the home cities of the participants by analysing the“lack-of-order”state of the street networks, to measure the complexity of the layouts. People whose hometown's street layouts were more ordered like New York were worse at playing SHQ. Those from cities wit less ordered street layouts like Prague performed only slightly worse than those from rural areas. Itest if people from cities could more effectively find the right direction in environments similar to where they grew up, the researchers developed a city-themed version of SHQ, called CHQ, requiri participants to drive down the streets in a virtual environment from simple grids to more winding street layouts. People growing up in cities with grid layouts were slightly better at navigating in similar environments, although the difference was not as significant as their performance in SHQ.
The SHQ project was designed to aid Alzheimer’ s research. Professor Michael Hornberger sa“Lack of spatial navigation is a key Alzheimer’ s symptom in the early stages of the disease. We.seeking to use the knowledge learned from SHQ to develop better disease monitoring tools.” DrSusan Kohlhaas also said, “Thanks to the amazing response, we have been able to collect data froi over four million players. If we' re to understand Alzheimer's, it's
vital that we have participation from as many people as possible with diverse backgrounds and experiences.”
32. What is the finding of the study
A. Street patterns in games are vital to one's performance.
B. People raised in cities have a good sense of direction.
C. Growing up in rural areas improves navigation skills.
D. One's present living place affects their navigation skills.
33. What did the participants do in the game
A. They drew their own maps of places in a virtual environment.
B. They carried out a task of finding the marked place.
C. They marked some places on a map to navigate a boat.
D. They played games against each other to mark the map.
54. What can be inferred about SHQ from Paragraph 3
A. It's harder than CHQ for those from cities.
B. Researchers developed it based on CHQ.
C It evaluates navigation skills better than CHQ.
D. Players from New York did better than those from Prague.
35. Why does Dr Susan Kohlhaas acknowledge the project
A. It helps Alzheimer's patients play SHQ.
B. It helps people gain navigation skills.
C. It helps get a better knowledge of Alzheimer’ s.
D. It helps spot Alzheimer's at an early stage.

6 Sometimes people's criticism can be severe, but our criticism of ourselves is likely the hardest. We

Set goals for yourself. You don't have to set large goals; you migh: begin with small goals that you
can easily achieve. It may be helpful to keep a list of the accomplishments(成绩, 成就) that have made you feel
proud. You can use this list as a motivation to get you to achieve your bigger goals.
Be grateful and helpful. Doing good things for others can make us feel good about ourselves. The smallest gestures, like smiling or holding the door for someone, can make a big difference to someone. 39 Being able
to make a positive difference for someone may make you feel good and improve your self-image.
Do something brave once a week. It can be frightening to put ourselves out there, but sometimes the risk
can be worth the reward. 4、 You can simply do something to step out of your comfort zone. Perhaps you might talk to that person you' re interested in.
A. Focus on strengths, not self-criticism.
B. Avoid blaming others.
C. Take small steps to boost your confidence.
D Achieving goals is one way to feel accomplished and confident.
E. You can also consider taking an active role in volunteering.

I must admit, I haven't always liked animals. In fact, I distrusted them greatly while growing up,and I still fear the ones I don't know personally. What set my beliefs in stone was being attacked—— not once but many times, including the summer after second grade when I was bitten by a rabbit. Then, when I was nine and riding my dirt bike down the road, a large dog charged me and tried to bite my ankle. After all those negative experiences, there was one thing I knew for sure: All creatures, great and small, were no friends of mine.
After college in California, I returned to live the single life in Las Vega. Then I met Lisa. In no time at all,
we fell in love, married and moved into a néw house. Despite my avoidance of animals,Lisa had a dog called Bailey. Bailey didn't like me, but he tolerated my existence once he realized Iwasn't going anywhere.
Things changed as spring came. We welcomed a new member of our family: our son Evan. One evening Evan grabbed hold of the dog’ s tail. The irritated dog paused and turned to look at his stuck tail but waited patiently
until being released. Still the stories I'd heard of animals attacking babies worry me.
Then my worst fear occurred. I sat on the couch(沙发) reading after a long day while my wife worked at the dining-room table paying the bills. I saw Evan crawl across the family-room carpet as he made his way behind the couch. One minute, all was quiet and then Bailey entered the room and headed to where Evan had crawled. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard the dog start a fearful barking behind me.

根据文章 my mom is my favorite hello and most difficult goodbye; Her actions show sensitivity, optimism, and kindness unlike any other I have ever known; Regardless of cold weather, heavy traffic, or my anxious stomach ache prior to a day of exams, we always had fun. She would tell jokes and we would laugh. With her infectious smile and confident attitude, my mom managed to turn every sad morning ofmine into a better day

根据倒数第二段中“It doesn't mean we should persevere in goals all the time. It can be healthyto change ambitions if the process is no longer making us happy.(这并不意味着我们应该一直坚持目标。如果这个过程不再让我们感到快乐, 那么改变雄心壮志可能是健康的。)”和最后一段“Failuresareunavoidable... achieve your goals. (失败是不可避免的。通过学会面对失望, 而不是贬低它的重要性, 假装什么都没发生,你可能会发现实现你的目标更容易了。)"可知,作者认为失败是不可避免的,有时候我们要面对失败。由此可推知,作者从正反两方面来对待失败,所以说作者对待失败的态度是客观的。故选C项。
