Today, with the development of society, people all over the world almost have the same hobbies, watch the same movies, and wear the same clothes. That is to say, we are not very different in some ways. However, cultures are still quite different. In the East and in the West, social rules are not the same.
In the East, it can take a long time to become someone’s friend. But people are very close to their friends. When people from the West meet you, they will call you a friend right away. That doesn’t mean they are close to you.
When people from the East meet you, they often ask questions. They want to know about your age, your salary (薪水) and whether you are married or not. For people from the West, these are not polite questions. They don’t like to talk about these personal things. They think such kind of questions violate (侵犯) their privacy (隐私).
Family is important for everyone. However, in the East, family is always a part of life. Kids there live with their parents for a long time. They still listen to them after they grow up.
In the West, independence is very important. Parents prepare their kids for life. Then, after their kids grow up, they say goodbye and leave home. Later, the kids can choose to start a family or not. They don’t have to listen to their parents.

My father woke me up early one summer morning when I was fourteen and said, “Get up, you’re going with me to cut the grass in the garden.”
The idea that my father thought I was old enough to help him in his business made me feel proud and excited. From sunrise to sunset, my father, my younger brother and I worked in the large garden, in a rich part of Atlanta, Georgia. By the end of the day, I was too tired to say a word but I felt good. This was my first time to help my father in his business. I got $6 for my work that day.
One day my father found some leaves I had missed and pulled me aside. “Take away these leaves!” he said seriously, “and don’t make me have to tell you to do it again.” The message was clear. Today I still value (珍视) it, which my father gave to me that day. It will always be helpful to impress the person you are working for.
After two years, I left home and went to another town to start my new life. Luckily for me, I quickly found a job to wash dishes in a restaurant. Every morning, I set off early, always with the same strong wish I got long ago. I felt like I was old enough to be independent and make a living by myself.
In fact, washing dishes was not exciting, but that didn’t matter. It taught me that any job was a good job and whatever I got from the job was more than I had before. I could learn something meaningful from every job and do it better and better. One day, a newspaper reporter once asked me how someone could possibly live with hard work and low pay. “If you only think about hard work and money, you won’t be happy in your life and you won’t do anything better .” I answered.
In every job, from cutting the grass to washing dishes, I’ve learned much. I’ve learned something that helps me in my next job.

Solar eclipse (日食)The moon moves around Earth, making a full trip all the way around our planet once every month. A solar eclipse happens when the moon gets right between the sun and Earth. Lunar eclipse (月食) As the moon moves around Earth, Earth orbits (环绕) the sun. When Earth moves between the sun and the moon, it blocks (阻挡) the sunlight. Earth’s shadow (阴影) falls on the moon. That is how a lunar eclipse happens. It usually lasts for a few hours.
A total solar eclipse is when the moon completely covers the sun in the sky. When the moon does this, it blocks some of the sun’s light and casts (投射) a big shadow on Earth only lasting a few minutes. A partial solar eclipse is when the moon passes over just a little bit. When this happens, the sun looks like a chunk (大块) is missing. A total lunar eclipse happens when the moon and the sun are on exact opposite sides of Earth. Although the moon is in Earth’s shadow, some sunlight reaches the moon. The sunlight makes the moon appear red to people on Earth. A partial lunar eclipse happens when part of the moon enters Earth’s shadow. In a partial eclipse, Earth’s shadow appears very dark on the side of the moon facing Earth.

The national band, drama, folk art, song and dance, boat racing, lion dance, festival gathering and labor competition were all together with the beats of drums. The sound of drums means celebrations, filling hearts with joy.
Different types of Chinese drums exist today. For example, “Taiping Drum” is used to express hope for peace and prosperity (繁荣) while “Ansai Waist Drum” is meant to show the spirit and the heroic character of farmers in Northwest China.

It’s like a key door for China to connect with the world. Trains go west to Europe and south to the ocean through new roads, plus two more ways. There are 62 train lines going to over 100 countries and more than 500 harbors. A special road called the New Road to the Sea from the West goes through the park. It was named in 2019.
