1. 重点:语言知识的学习与课文的深度理解;课文重构与思维品质的提升。
2. 难点:新语言项目的学习、课文重构以及思维品质的提升。
四、教学过程
1. Step 1 Review:检查阅读理解练习题答案,回顾课文主要内容。
2. Step 2 Language Focus
Activity 2 Learning about the new language items
item1:“The city is known for its diverse cultures. It attracts people from all over the world, and each brings their own unique traditions and values.” 句中 “their” 指代不明身份的人,遵循现代英语中对性别不明指代的复数使用规则。
diverse adj.:不同的;多种多样的。e.g. diverse cultures/opinions 多元文化/不同意见。There are diverse ways to solve this problem. 解决这个问题有多种方法。
be known for:因……而出名。类似表达:be famous for, be noted for。e.g. France is known for its fine wines. 法国以其美酒而闻名。
item2:“The local government has taken measures to preserve the historic buildings, which are a symbol of the city's long - standing history.”
preserve vt.:保护;保存;维护。e.g. preserve the environment 保护环境;preserve food 保存食物。We should preserve our cultural heritage. 我们应该保护我们的文化遗产。
symbol n.:象征;符号;标志。e.g. The dove is a symbol of peace. 鸽子是和平的象征。
item3:“A majority of the residents here speak at least two languages, making communication in this multicultural city quite interesting.”
resident n.:居民;住户。e.g. local residents 当地居民。The new policy benefits the residents in this area. 新政策使这个地区的居民受益。
multicultural adj.:多元文化的。e.g. a multicultural society 多元文化社会。This school promotes multicultural education. 这所学校推行多元文化教育。
item4:“Some people complained about the noise from the construction site, saying it affected their daily life.”
complain vi.& vt.:抱怨;发牢骚。用法同Unit2,complain (to sb) about/of sth,complain (to sb) that...。e.g. He complained to me about the bad service in the restaurant. 他向我抱怨餐厅的服务不好。
construction n.:建造;建筑;建造物。e.g. under construction 在建设中;construction site 建筑工地。The new building is still under construction. 新大楼仍在建设中。
item5:“The city responded quickly to the problem by setting up noise - control regulations.”
respond vt.& vi.:回答;回复;做出反应。用法同Unit2,respond to sb./sth.,response n.,in response to等。e.g. The company responded to the customers' demands promptly. 公司迅速回应了顾客的需求。
regulation n.:章程;规章制度;规则。e.g. traffic regulations 交通规则;safety regulations 安全规则。We must follow the school regulations. 我们必须遵守校规。
item6:“There are many opportunities for tourists to experience the local customs, such as attending traditional festivals.”
opportunity n.:机会;时机。用法:在抽象名词后用不定式作定语,如 have an opportunity to do sth. 有机会做某事。e.g. I had the opportunity to visit the famous museum. 我有机会参观了那家著名的博物馆。
attend vt.:出席;参加;上(学等)。e.g. attend a meeting/class 参加会议/上课。He always attends the school activities actively. 他总是积极参加学校活动。
item7:“The unique art forms here, like the local dance and music, are passed down from generation to generation.”
unique adj.:独特的;独一无二的;特有的。e.g. a unique style 独特的风格;be unique to 是……所特有的。This custom is unique to this region. 这种习俗是这个地区特有的。
pass down:传承;传递。e.g. These skills were passed down by our ancestors. 这些技艺是由我们的祖先传下来的。
item8:“The local authorities appointed a team to study the cultural development plan of the city.”
appoint vt.:任命;委派。用法:appoint sb. as/to be...,appoint sb. to do sth. 等。e.g. She was appointed as the manager of the department. 她被任命为这个部门的经理。
authority n.:当局;官方;权力;权威。e.g. local authorities 地方当局;have the authority to do sth. 有权做某事。The authorities are responsible for maintaining social order. 当局负责维持社会秩序。
item9:“Visitors are often seen exploring the narrow alleys, fascinated by the old - fashioned architecture.”
see + sb. + doing sth.:看到某人正在做某事,现在分词作宾补。类似用法的词有hear, watch等。e.g. I saw him reading a book in the library. 我看见他正在图书馆看书。
fascinated adj.:被迷住的;极感兴趣的。be fascinated by 被……迷住。e.g. The children were fascinated by the magic show. 孩子们被魔术表演迷住了。
item10:“The city tends to become more and more international, with more foreigners coming to live and work here.”
tend vi.:倾向;趋于;照顾;照料。tend to do sth. 易于做某事;tend (to) sb./sth. 照料某人/某物。e.g. People tend to forget things as they get older. 随着年龄的增长,人们往往会忘事。
international adj.:国际的;世界的。e.g. international trade 国际贸易;an international conference 国际会议。This city hosts many international events. 这座城市举办很多国际活动。
3. Step 3 Post Reading—Text reconstruction and thinking quality improvement
Activity 4 Text reconstruction:用所学单词和短语重构课文,复述城市文化相关内容,并完成句子填空。
Activity 5 Discussing and thinking:讨论问题并分享答案。(1)你认为文化多样性对一个城市的发展有哪些重要意义?(2)如果你是城市管理者,你会采取什么措施进一步促进城市的文化融合?
4. Step 4 Evaluation and summary
Activity 6 Self - evaluation:引导学生从以下方面反思本节课学习情况。 1.新语言项目掌握程度(好/较好/一般/一般般/差)。2.学习表现(好/较好/一般/一般般/差)。3.课后打算如何提高学习效果?
Activity 7 Summary:教师简要总结本节课主要内容。
