Sixteen years ago a boy gave me an important gift. It was a smile. It was the early autumn of my first year at a middle school, and my old school was far away. As a result, no one knew who I was. I was very lonely, and afraid to speak to anyone.
Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I felt my heart break. I couldn’t talk with anyone about my problems. Then one day, when my classmates were talking happily with their friends, I was sitting at my desk unhappily as usual. At that moment, a boy entered the classroom. I didn’t know who he was. He passed by me and then turned back. He looked at me, with a smile.
Suddenly, I felt the touch of something bright and friendly. It made me feel happy and warm. That smile changed my life. I started to talk with other students and make friends. Day by day, I became closer to everyone in my class. The boy with the lucky smile has become my best friend now.
One day I asked him why he had smiled, but he couldn’t remember doing so! It doesn’t matter because all the dark days have gone. I believe that the world is what you think it is. If you think it is lonely, you might always be alone. So smile at the world and it will smile back.
24. When did the writer get the gift
A. At the age of 16.
B. After making friends with the boy.
C. In the first year at a middle school.
D. After becoming closer to everyone in the class.
25. Why was the smile an important gift
A. Because the writer’s old school was far away.
B. Because the writer didn’t know who the boy was.
C. Because the smile didn’t mean anything to the boy.
D. Because it made the writer feel happy and warm.
26. Why didn’t the writer talk to anyone in her new school about her problems
A. Because she was always unhappy.
B. Because she didn’t know anyone at the time.
C. Because she was in the first year at the junior high school.
D. Because she didn’t want her parents to worry about her.
27. How did the smile change her life
A. She started to make friends.
B. She became the best friend of the boy.
C. Her parents didn’t worry about her any more.
D. She realized that she was lonely.

Organic food is very popular. It is also expensive. Some organic food costs twice as much as non-organic food, but new parents and pet owners are willing to pay up to 200% more for organic food. However, there are people who think it is a waste of money.
There is one main difference between organic and non-organic food. Organic farms do not use agricultural chemicals, such as pesticides. In many countries organic foods have special labels. These guarantee that the products are natural.
Some people think organic means locally grown. Originally this was true. Over time organic farming became more difficult. The demand for organic food grew larger than the supply. Small companies had to sell out to large companies. There weren't enough organic ingredients, such as grain and cattle. This made it difficult for many organic companies to stay in business. Today, many large companies have an organic line of products.
Is organic food more nutritious This is part of the debate. Many farmers and consumers believe it is. They think agricultural chemicals cause health problems such as cancer. Many health professionals disagree. Few studies prove that organic foods prevent health problems. Health specialists worry more about bacteria, such as E.coli and salmonella. These can get into contact with organic and non- organic food. Doctors recommend washing produce very carefully. Handling meat carefully is important too.
Most people agree that naturally grown food tastes better. Is tastier food worth the extra money This is a matter of opinion. Whether it is healthier or not may require more research. However, organic consumers argue it is better to be safe than sorry.
32. What is probably the major concern of organic food consumers
A. Price. B. Safety.
C. Freshness. D. Variety.
33. What is the doctors’ suggestion
A. Grow your own food. B. Reduce the use of pesticides.
C. Make sure the food is clean. D. Buy large companies’ products.
34. Which of the following do most people agree on organic food
A. It tastes better. B. It is easier to grow.
C. It contains more fat. D. It is more nutritious.
35. Where does this text probably come from
A. A recipe book. B. A chemistry paper.
C. A medical report. D. A health magazine.

A Mother’s Heartfelt Note of Love
Everything seemed to have changed for me when I entered high school. I never saw a single person I knew from middle school. At home I was just as lonely. “My brothers and sister all fit in.” I thought, coming in the door after another bad day at school. “Why can’t I ”
Mom was there waiting for me. “Karole, your bedroom’s a disaster. Why can’t you keep it clean ” The last thing I needed was criticism from my mother. What had happened to the mother who used to snuggle (依偎) with me on the sofa, loving me with complete acceptance Who thought everything I did was wonderful I didn’t bother trying to explain my unhappiness. It was easier to hide in my bedroom, without saying a word, like I did every afternoon.
Clearing off some space, I sat down at my desk. Yet another thing I wasn’t good at anymore. My grades had slipped along with my confidence. I turned to a new page in my notebook and started working out the first problem. Almost immediately, I saw I’d made a mistake. “Wrong again!” I thought. “You can’t do anything right!” I tore the paper out of my notebook, balled it up in my fist and threw it at the wastepaper basket. The ball landed on the floor. I heard my mother’s voice in my head, “Why can’t you keep your room clean ”
By the time I finished my homework, the floor was littered with crumpled (弄皱的) paper. It gave me a kind of satisfaction to see the mess I’d made. Like it was proof of all my shortcomings. Every time I looked at those crumpled balls, I reminded myself what a failure I was. But my unhappiness stayed hidden away, just like those mistakes. With my face a mask of indifference, no one knew what I was really feeling. Who would want to listen
One day, I came home to an empty house. It was a relief not to be met with Mom’s latest complaint. “Nothing I do is right in her eyes.” I thought. “Or anyone else’s, including mine.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
When I opened my bedroom door, I froze at the sight of a neat and orderly room.

I sat down at my desk, staring at those words.

第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
When I opened my bedroom door, I froze at the sight of a neat and orderly room. Mom had obviously decided to clean it herself. I was surprised to see the clean floor below my bed. All the crumpled paper had disappeared. Except one. A single sheet lay in plain view. I picked up the sheet and recognized Mom’s perfect handwriting, saying “I have found that I have also been very critical of you lately. For that, I am truly sorry. I only expect that you are to be your same sweet self.”
I sat down at my desk, staring at those words. A weight seemed to lift from me. I realized that Mom still loved me the same way. When she got home, I found the confidence to let down my guard and talk to her about how I felt. She and my father teamed up to offer some ideas that might help, like joining after-school clubs. I seemed like everything changed in high school, but one heartfelt note set the stage for the rest of my teenage years.
