As Susan stood in front of the crowd, her heart beat violently. The familiar chords of Elvis's "Can't Help Falling in Love" trembled from her guitar strings as she scanned the sea of expectant faces. Halfway through the song, her voice gained strength, echoing through the lounge with surprising clarity. When the final note faded, applause erupted like summer rain. Susan gripped the microphone, her gaze locking onto Grandma Betty's misty eyes in the front row. "This next song needs something special," she announced, fingers brushing the guitar neck nervously. "Someone who taught me that music never ages." The crowd murmured as Susan extended her hand toward her grandmother. "Will you play 'You Are My Sunshine' with me, Grandma "
Grandma Betty soon returned with her banjo. The instrument gleamed like rediscovered treasure in her weathered hands. As she settled beside Susan, the room held its breath. The opening notes from the banjo danced with the guitar's rhythm, tentative at first, then blooming into joyful harmony. Their voices intertwined - Susan's youthful vibrato wrapping around Betty's warm, crackling tones. By the chorus, walkers tapped time and silver heads nodded recognition. When the last chord shimmered in the air, Betty's cheeks glistened with tears that had nothing to do with age. The standing ovation shook the lounge windows as three generations of Tribula women embraced, surrounded by the echoes of music reborn.
