Background
张桂梅，原名张玫瑰，毕业于丽江教育学院，是感动中国2020年度人物、丽江华坪女子高级中学校长。扎根云南贫困山区40多年，推动创建了中国第一所免费女子高中，2008年建校以来已帮助1600多位女孩圆梦大学校园。先后荣获”时代楷模”、“全国先进工作者”、“全国十佳师德标兵”、“中国十大教育年度人物”、“全国道德模范”等多个荣誉称号，并被中共中央授予“七一勋章”。

award作动词时，意为“给予，授予，判给”；作名词时，意为“奖品；奖”。
常见搭配：
作动词：award a medal to sb（授予某人奖章）。
作名词：get/win/obtain/receive an award（获奖）；first award（一等奖）；Oscar award（奥斯卡金像奖）；award for best actress（最佳女主角奖） 。

以 - less 结尾的词通常是形容词，表 “无、缺乏、不” 的含义 ，常由名词或形容词加后缀 -less 构成：
描述人的特质或状态：careless 粗心的，fearless 无畏的，helpless无助的，hopeless 没有希望的，thoughtless 粗心的。
描述事物的特征：endless 无尽的，meaningless 无意义的，useless 无用的，worthless 无价值的。
与职业、生活状态相关：jobless 失业的，homeless 无家可归的。
其他：colorless 无色的，cloudless 无云的，sleepless 失眠的，smokeless 无烟的，countless 无数的。
Zhang suffered from serious health problems.
含义：
患病：用于表示患有某种疾病，尤其是慢性或反复出现的疾病。如 He suffers from asthma.（他患有哮喘病）。
遭受（不愉快经历、困境等）：常指遭受痛苦、困难、压力、损失等。比如 They suffered from the earthquake.（他们遭受了地震灾害）。
用法：suffer from后面通常接名词或动名词（v. -ing）作宾语，用来具体说明遭受的对象或内容。
suffer和suffer from有一定区别，suffer可直接加抽象名词，强调一次性的痛苦或损失，如suffer pain（遭受痛苦）；suffer from更侧重长期、慢性的折磨或困扰 。

Finally, her hard work paid off.
还清（债务等）：He worked hard to pay off his student loans. 他努力工作以还清他的学生贷款。
付清工资后解雇：The company had to pay off some employees due to financial difficulties. 由于财务困难，公司不得不付清工资后解雇一些员工。
取得成功；得到回报：All his hard work paid off in the end and he got the promotion. 他所有的辛勤努力最终都得到了回报，他获得了晋升。
贿赂：He tried to pay off the police officer to avoid getting a ticket.他试图贿赂警察以避免收到罚单。
与其他短语的辨析
pay off和pay back都有 “偿还” 的意思，但pay back更强调“归还”，通常用于指偿还向别人借的钱等，如：I’ll pay you back next week.（我下周还你钱。）而pay off更侧重于全部还清债务等。
pay off表示“取得成功”时，与pay for意思不同，pay for主要表示“为……付款；为……付出代价”。
如：You’ll have to pay for your mistakes.（你将不得不为你的错误付出代价。）
