【答案】Dear Michael,
I hope this email finds you well. Last week, I had the exciting opportunity to explore our school’s newly opened smart library. I just can’t wait to share my experience with you.
Upon entering the smart library, I was impressed by the cozy atmosphere with intelligent lighting and its advanced digital tools like tablets, AI-powered book recommendation systems and smart book checkout systems. The AI-powered book recommendation systems were fascinating, giving me access to my desired resources instantly via tablets. Then there was a virtual reality corner where I experienced immersive reading. I also tried the smart book checkout systems, which made the borrowing process quick and easy.
My experience was incredibly refreshing. The cutting-edge technology allowed personalized access to library services, thus making studying more engaging and efficient. I expect to see how this smart library will continue to evolve and benefit our school community. How about libraries in your area
Yours,

The next Monday, Max returned, but rumors remained. Someone had even started calling him “Mad Max” and the nickname caught on. I couldn’t stand it anymore. During lunch, I stood up in the middle of the cafeteria and shouted, “You guys have it all wrong! Max isn’t what you think. He’s been dealing with stuff none of you know about, so just stop!” The room went silent. I felt every eye on me, and my face burned with embarrassment. But then Max, who was sitting at a corner table, gave me a small nod of gratitude.
From that day forward, things began to change. Max still wasn’t an outgoing person, but little by little, more people started talking to him. When someone tried to bring up the old rumors, I was quick to shut them down. Max and I became friends, and he even opened up to me about his sister’s recovery. I realized how easy it had been to judge him based on hearsay, and how wrong we had been. Sometimes, people build walls not to keep others out, but to protect themselves. I never made that mistake again.

10. 【原文】M: Good afternoon, everyone. Have you ever wondered how technology is shaping our lives Today, I'd like to talk about a fascinating development in the tech world-the rise of smart homes. Smart homes use Internet-connected devices to automate tasks such as controlling lighting, heating, and even security systems. These systems are designed to make life more convenient and efficient. For example, with a simple voice command, you can adjust the temperature in your house or turn off the lights. Many people find these features very useful, especially for elderly or disabled individuals who may have difficulty with regular tasks However, as with any new technology, there are concerns about privacy and security. It's important to consider both the benefits and risks when deciding whether a smart home is right for you. In the next session, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages in more detail.江苏省前黄中学2025届高三下学期期初检测

The distinctive Northerm Bald Ibis (秃头朱鹮), hunted nearly to extinction by the 17th century, was brought back by raising and rewilding efforts over the last two decades. But the birds don’t know which direction to fly to migrate (迁徙) without wild-born elders leading the way. So a team of scientists and conservationists took on the role of parents and flight instructors.
Biologist Johannes Fritz and the Waldrapp team, an Austrian conservation group, have been teaching the birds their migration paths. Since 2002, they’ve increased the Central European population from zero to nearly 300 birds, changing the species’ status from “critically endangered” to “endangered.”
To prepare them for travel, the chicks are taken away, when they are just a few days old, to their human parents in the hope of “imprinting” — when the birds will bond with those humans to finally trust them along the migration route. Then the human parents sit on the back of a super light aircraft, waving and shouting words of support as it flies through the air.
It’s an odd scene: The aircraft looks like a flying car with a huge fan on the back and a yellow parachute keeping it in the air. Still, three dozen birds follow it sailing over the Alps.
Fritz, inspired by “Father Goose” Bill Lishman, who taught geese to fly alongside his ultra-light plane, leads the birds on their migration.
The first successful independent migration was in 2011, and more birds have followed the 550-kilometer route each year. The team hopes to have over 350 birds by 2028, making the population self-sustaining. However, climate change has affected their migration. In response, the team piloted a new route to southern Spain in 2023, which is longer and more challenging.
The entire journey to Spain could take up to 50 days and end in early October. But Fritz says, “The effort is bigger than just the Northern Bald Ibises. It’s about paving the way for other threatened migratory species to fly.”
24. What is the major challenge faced by the Northern Bald Ibises during their migration
A. Long distances. B. Limited resting spots.
C. Human hunting. D. Absence of guidance.
25. Why are the birds taken away when they are just a few days old
A. To improve their flying skills. B. To show them the migration route.
C To test their independence from their parents. D. To build an emotional tie with humans.
26. What do the research team do during their flight
A. They encourage the birds to follow. B. They try new migratory routes.
C. They use an airplane to find the way. D. They shout like elder birds.
27. What are Fritz’s words in the last paragraph mainly about
A. The role of technology in the research B. The worth of the conservation effort
C. The need to help other migratory species D. The promising future of wildlife migration

Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise. The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, stagnates.
The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations. In response, too many solutions are “ostrich policies (鸵鸟政策) ” that want to ban devices and shut down social media but don’t address more fundamental issues.
Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online.
On the bright side, the rapid development of AI and increasing attention to the amount of misinformation online have helped normalize the acceptance of media literacy as a core skill. While suggestions to limit inappropriate device use, increase face-to-face socialization, and engage in outdoor play are beneficial, they do not build the core skills that will keep kids safe offline and are fundamental to well-being and life success: good citizenship, self-awareness and self-control. Those things take teaching, whether you are online or outside.
Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up, parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids.
28. What does the underlined word “stagnates” in the first paragraph probably mean
A. Falls well short. B. Gets far ahead.
C. Falls apart suddenly. D. Gets started officially.
29. What causes people’s moral panic over technology and kids
A. Belief in the rapid growth of new technologies
B. Concern over cutting kids off from the Internet
C. Inability to balance the use of social media and health.
D. Fear of technology causing mental health issues in teenagers.
30. What does paragraph 3 of the text focus on
A. The sources of peer pressure. B. The problems of current policies.
C. The benefits of minimizing disturbance. D. The disadvantages of social media platforms
31. Which of the following belongs to media literacy
A. Reducing social media exposure. B. Increasing face-to-face interactions.
C. Applying critical thinking to media. D. Recognizing the dangers of social media
D
Decision fatigue (决策疲劳) is a psychological phenomenon where the quality of decisions declines after a long session of decision-making. It is caused by the limited mental energy we have for making choices each day. While many of us believe we are logical beings capable of weighing every option carefully, decision fatigue shows how our mental resources can be used up over time.
One of the key studies on this phenomenon was conducted in the context of parole hearings (假释听证会). Researchers found that judges were more likely to approve of parole early in the day or after a meal break. As the day progressed and the judges made more decisions, they were increasingly likely to maintain their previous decisions, denying parole simply because it required less mental effort.
Decision fatigue not only affects major life choices but also everyday decisions. For instance, people often report struggling to decide what to eat for dinner after a long day. Similarly, too many choices, such as when looking through streaming platforms or online stores, can leave individuals feeling confused, leading them to abandon the process entirely or settle for a less satisfying option.
To overcome decision fatigue, some well-known figures have adopted strategies to simplify their daily routines. For example, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is famous for wearing the same style of gray T-shirts to minimize unnecessary choices. Similarly, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Albert Einstein was known for owing multiple identical suits to avoid wasting energy on deciding what to wear each day. In a different context, author Haruki Murakami has shared that he maintains a strict daily routine, including specific writing hours and exercise, to free up mental capacity for his creative work.
Understanding decision fatigue can help us structure our lives more effectively. Prioritizing important decisions earlier in the day or setting up routines to minimize unnecessary choices are strategies to preserve mental energy. By managing our mental resources wisely, we can make sound decisions and reduce the stress associated with overwhelming choices
32. What leads to decision fatigue according to the text
A. The lack of time to make decisions.
B. The difficulty of making logical choices.
C. The stress from making important decisions.
D. The limited mental energy for decision-making.
33. What does the study on parole hearings reveal
A. Judges are much stricter after long breaks.
B. Fatigue causes judges to avoid complicated cases.
C. Decision fatigue can lead to unfair outcomes.
D. External factors have no impact on decision-making.
34. What does the author suggest readers shopping online do
A. Limit the number of choices. B. Make quick decisions.
C. Compare different products. D. Choose the most popular products.
35. What is the purpose of adopting routines
A. To reduce the stress of daily work. B. To enhance overall life satisfaction.
C. To increase decision-making quality. D. To create more decision-making chances.

Achieving Success in Journalistic News Writing
No book, article or blog post can turn an ambitious writer into a successful journalist. All that it can do is to help the writer learn to write. The primary skill in learning to write is practice. ____36____
Among the most convenient subjects are the events and news in the world around us. Such topics are what skilled journalists write about, and that is why we call this form of writing “journalistic writing”.
Journalistic writing is not a special literary gymnastics that requires a special talent and an expansive vocabulary. ____37____It is using language to tell what is going on in the world. As such, it requires no special talent beyond seeing and understanding what is taking place around us, to grasp its significance and relation to other events, and to tell others what we have seen and heard.
____38____One of the chief characteristics is timeliness and relevance. It has little time to talk about the past, except in comparison with the present. It has little time to foretell the future, except in pointing out the significance of the present. Its subject is today. It is primarily concerned with facts. The writer considers himself a recorder of the things other persons are doing and thinking.
Another basic part of journalistic writing is that the writer prepares it for a definite purpose. Some writers, like novelists, write to use beautiful words and sentences. ____39____ However, the writer who favors a journalistic style uses English simply to tell what he has seen and heard; he realizes that his reader cares more for the things he tells than for the way in which he tells and expresses them.
Success in journalistic writing demands two important skills. One is the inborn skill to see and understand. The other is the skill to tell what the writer has seen in a way that makes the reader see the same thing. ____40____If the writer is eager to excel, he must expand his knowledge and education so he can better understand and evaluate the things he sees and hears.
A. An ambitious writer can develop both skills if he lacks them.
B. It will not do them any good to write news items.
C. To these imaginative literary writers, they favor expression.
D. To practice writing, one must have something to write about.
E. The writer must write it now or never―without giving up quality.
F. Instead, it is the plainest, most reserved form of English composition.
G. Journalistic writing differs mainly in its subject matter and purpose.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成篇完整的短文。
I had always been cautious around Max. He was the quiet kid in our grade, the one who sat at the back of the classroom with his hood (连衣帽) pulled low over his face. Max rarely spoke to anyone, and when he did, his words were rudely brief and often misunderstood. Rumors (谣言) about him spread like wildfire - some said he got into fights after school, others claimed he had once stolen a teacher’s wallet, l didn’t know if any of them was true, but l stayed away, just like everyone else.
Then one Friday morning, Max didn’t show up to class. A low voice of curiosity spread through the room, and soon enough, theories about his absence started flying. “He got suspended,” whispered a girl next to me. “I heard he struck a guy outside the library. ” I wasn’t surprised, and nodded in agreement.
Later that day, I found myself at the park, enjoying the first warm day of spring. That’s when I saw him - Max - sitting alone on the swings. His usual guarded expression was gone, and replaced by something I hadn’t expected: sadness. Against my better judgment, I walked over.
“Hey,” I said awkwardly.
Max looked up, surprised. “What do you want ”
“I…just saw you here and thought I’d say hi.”
He gave me a strange look but said nothing. I was about to walk away when I noticed a wrinkled piece of paper in his hand, “What’s that ” I asked.
For a moment, he hesitated. Then, with a shrug, he handed it to me. It was a hospital discharge form, and the name on it wasn’t his. It was his younger sister’s. I looked at him, confused.
“She’s been sick for months,” Max explained, his voice barely heard. “Yesterday was bad. My mom couldn’t leave work, so I stayed at the hospital and looked after her all night. ”
It hit me then how wrong we had all been about Max. The tough outward appearance, the distance - he wasn’t trying to push people away. He was carrying a weight none of us understood.
