Artificial intelligence is changing the Chinese film industry a lot. It’s making big changes in how movies are made, from coming up with ideas to what happens after filming. A really good example of this change is a short movie by an experienced director named Yu Baimei. This movie shows the famous Chinese legend of Zhong Kui in a new, modern way. Zhong Kui is a heroic character from old Chinese stories. Usually, he’s shown as a strong warrior in red clothes, fighting against bad spirits.
Yu, who is 49 years old, said, “I’ve always liked Zhong Kui. He’ s funny, heroic, and we all know him well. But it seemed like he was never shown on TV or in movies in a way that was really good enough.” With the help of AI, Yu made a two-minute short film “No Disturbance from Ghosts”. This film connects the old story of Zhong Kui to our modern life.
This special experimental film and other short films made with AI by eight well-known directors were shown for the first time in December. They were part of the “Kling AI Director Co-Creation Project” at the China National Film Museum. And these works have now become part of the museum’s permanent (永久的) collection.
