1. Hold on. 别挂断电话。
(1) hold on
①(电话用语)别挂断电话，等一等
e.g. Can you hold on I’ll try to find him. 请别挂好吗？我去找找他看。
② 等着，停住
e.g. Hold on. I’m coming! 稍等，我马上来！
③(在困境或危险中)坚持住，挺住
e.g. They managed to hold on until help arrived.
他们勉强坚持到救援到来。
④(+ to sth/sb)抓紧；不放开
e.g. Hold on to the end of the rope. 抓住绳子的末端。
(2) hold 〔动词〕
①拿着，握住，抓住
e.g. Could you hold this for a minute 这个你能拿一会儿吗？
②举行，召开；进行
e.g. Will you have a meeting next Friday
你们下周五要开会吗？
③容纳
e.g. The movie theater can hold 1,000 people.
这家电影院能容纳1 000人。
④使保持(某种姿势)
e.g. Try to hold your back straight. 尽量使背部保持挺直。
2. When you call somebody 当你给某人打电话时
somebody 〔不定代词〕某人；有人
e.g.Somebody is knocking at the door. 有人在敲门。
Ask somebody else to help you. 另请个人来帮帮你吧。
I need somebody strong to help me move this desk.
我需要个力气大的人帮我搬这个书桌。
①相当于someone，作主语时谓语用单数。
②多用于肯定句，否定句、疑问句中通常用anybody/anyone。
③被形容词修饰时，结构为“somebody+形容词”。
could /k d; k d/ modal v. 能；可以
[情态动词]在此用于请求对方允许自己做某事，语气比can委婉。“Could I... ”意为“我能……吗？”。
肯定回答：Yes, you can./Of course you can.
否定回答：Sorry, you can’t./Sorry, I’m afraid you can’t.
3. Could I speak to... 我可以和……说话吗？
e.g. —Could I have a look at your new watch
我能看一下你的新手表吗？
—Of course you can. Here you are.当然可以，给你。
【拓展】could还可作can的过去式，用于一般过去时。
e.g. The clever boy could recite so many poems when he was three.这个聪明的男孩三岁时就能背诵很多首诗。
4. No problem. 没问题。
